Book Mr Gabe

Book excerpt: This book, I pray, expresses that the suffering a child endures because of a traumatic childhood does not have to be the determining factor in deciding the outcome of our lives. The kind of life trauma a child or anyone goes through should not, in any way, determine their ability to overcome these traumas and have a productive adult life. It is my belief that with a great Creator, God, and his divine intervention in our lives, we, as his children, will be carried through life’s traumatic experiences. It is my belief that I and all of humankind were created for a great purpose. The writing of this book, or its purpose, is not to gather sympathy, but the opposite, to explain that an individual does not have to allow their childhood or economic environment to set the standard for the rest of their lives. In my childhood, I attempted to subconsciously close myself off, mentally or emotionally, from what was occurring. This denial allowed me a way of surviving through early life. I called out to God, the great Creator, for help and guidance many times. Without the help and the great love of God, these traumas would probably have killed me from the shock. From an early age and throughout my adult life, I’ve had to find ways to deal with my traumatic past. With God and a drifter named Mr. Gabe who showed up at all the right times like a guardian angel who seemed to know a lot about the same God my grandmother talked about, I did survive throughout these traumas and have lived a relatively good life and achieved challenges that could only have been possible with God’s love.

Book Gabe Johnson Takes Over

Download or read book Gabe Johnson Takes Over written by Geoff Herbach and published by Sourcebooks, Inc.. This book was released on 2015-04-07 with total page 231 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: From Geoff Herbach, the award-winning author of the hit young adult novels Stupid Fast and Nothing Special, comes the ultimate underdog story, which will resonate with anyone who has suffered from teasing and bullying at the hands of the high school social hierarchy—and decided to do something about it. (Previously titled Fat Boy vs The Cheerleaders.) Gabe is having a tough week. Normally the funny kid at the lunch table, he's on edge from trying to kick his soda addiction. So when news breaks that his beloved marching band camp has been cancelled due to lack of funding, he's furious. What makes him even madder? The school's vending machine money—which had previously been collected by the band—is now sponsoring the new cheer squad. The war is ON. And Gabe is leading the charge. No one will be safe from the Geekers' odd brand of wrath: not the principal, the band teacher, the local newspaper, and certainly not the cheerleaders and their jock boyfriends. Get ready: Life at Minnekota Lake Area High School is about to change. Gabe Johnson is taking over. "A funny, uplifting, and rousing book that'll make readers think. In other words, it's a real gem." —K. M. Walton, author of Cracked and Empty

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: On the surface, Samantha Shaw's life looks pretty good--she has a hot boyfriend, private investigator Gabe Pulizzi, and her own business, Heart Mates Dating Service. But raising two boys and keeping track of her ornery magician grandfather is tricky business. . .especially when you add murder to the mix. . .. Knocking down the wall between Samantha Shaw's dating service, Heart Mates, and her boyfriend Gabe Pulizzi's P.I. office seemed like a good idea. The construction dust is causing chaos, but the real trouble is how Sam's going to handle her two sons, her grandfather, her business, and training for her P.I. license--and squeeze in a relationship with Gabe at the same time. She hasn't even begun to figure it out when her grandfather, Barney Webb, winds up in trouble of his own--he's been accused by arrogant magician Shane Masters of hiring a hit man to kill him. Sam knows it can't be true, despite Shane's practice of exposing other illusionists' secrets in a series of popular "spoiler" shows. Proving Grandpa's innocence is priority number one, even though the old man is strangely resistant to her offers to get to the bottom of Shane's accusation. Then Grandpa's protégé Fletch Knight shows up in Lake Elsinore, asking Barney to help him videotape backdrops for his upcoming performance at the House of Magic. Sam thinks Barney should be focusing on clearing his name, but she doesn't have much time to push the issue since she's just landed a new case--discovering which magician's secrets Shane will expose for Shane's ex, Nikki Eden, whose high-concept illusions depend on secrecy. With another of Grandpa's former students in town, and Gabe's troubled brother arriving unexpectedly, Sam is up to her ears in sleight of hand and whispered secrets when Shane Masters' murdered body suddenly appears. Detective Logan Vance, Sam's police connection, is furious that she's withheld information. With so many balls in the air, Sam is tempted to throw in the towel and take up juggling, but finding a killer comes first. There's no shortage of suspects, but with Sam's own life at stake--again!--figuring out whodunit is going to be the most spectacular trick of all. . .

Book Out of the Shadow of Leprosy

Download or read book Out of the Shadow of Leprosy written by Claire Manes and published by Univ. Press of Mississippi. This book was released on 2013-03-18 with total page 229 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In 1924 when thirty-two-year-old Edmond Landry kissed his family good-bye and left for the leprosarium in Carville, Louisiana, leprosy, now referred to as Hansen's Disease, stigmatized and disfigured but did not kill. Those with leprosy were incarcerated in the federal hospital and isolated from family and community. Phones were unavailable, transportation was precarious, and fear was rampant. Edmond entered the hospital (as did his four other siblings), but he did not surrender to his fate. He fought with his pen and his limited energy to stay connected to his family and to improve living conditions for himself and other patients. Claire Manes, Edmond's granddaughter, lived much of her life gripped by the silence surrounding her grandfather. When his letters were discovered, she became inspired to tell his story through her scholarship and his writing. Out of the Shadow of Leprosy: The Carville Letters and Stories of the Landry Family presents her grandfather's letters and her own studies of narrative and Carville during much of the twentieth century. The book becomes a testament to Edmond's determination to maintain autonomy and dignity in the land of the living dead. Letters and stories of the other four siblings further enhance the picture of life in Carville from 1919 to 1977.
