Download or read book Fuzzy Variable Speed Limit Device Modification and Testing Phase II written by John Placer and published by . This book was released on 2001 with total page 32 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This report describes a project which focused on the upgrading of a Road Weather Information Station (RWIS) site on I-40 in Arizona. The objective was to have the RWIS site function as a test site for monitoring the complete data set of atmospheric and road surface conditions that can be utilized by a fuzzy control algorithm. A secondary objective was to enhance the site so that it would also supply traffic flow data.

Book Fuzzy Variable Speed Limit Device Project

Download or read book Fuzzy Variable Speed Limit Device Project written by John Placer and published by . This book was released on 1998 with total page 60 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The main objective of the Fuzzy Variable Speed Limit Device (FVSLD) Project was to demonstrate that fuzzy logic is well-suited to the design and implementation of a variable speed limit (VSL) system dedicated to speed management on rural highways. This objective was demonstrated through the creation of a real-time fuzzy control system that could continuously display highway speeds that are appropriate to the atmospheric and road surface conditions that exist at any given time at locations of interest. The software that implements the control system was the main product of the project although a micro-controller based hardware prototype of the final fuzzy control system was also created. The geographical area of concern for the project was the I-40 corridor in rural northern Arizona.

Book Optimal Power Flow Using FACTS Devices

Download or read book Optimal Power Flow Using FACTS Devices written by L. Ashok Kumar and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2020-12-03 with total page 239 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Optimal Power Flow Using FACTS Devices: Soft Computing Techniques develops intelligent algorithms to analyze optimal power flow (OPF) and to enhance the power transfer capability of the transmission line with reduced congestion. By providing elaborate studies on FACTS devices and by using soft computing metaheuristics algorithms such as Firefly, Cuckoo, Flower Pollination, and others., this book enables readers to know about algorithms in real-time power system applications and damping of subsynchronous resonance (SSR) oscillations. Key features of this book include: Offers comprehensive review of FACTS devices and the importance of soft computing techniques for solving OPF. Describes the various problems associated with power system operation and control. Addresses issues of SSR in power systems and proposes soft techniques for SSR analysis in power systems. Demonstrates of the importance of SSR and congestion management using intelligent FACTS devices as part of OPF. Covers power systems’ reliability, quality, cost-effectiveness, effects on customer goodwill, and pollution limits, including the deregulation of markets and different intelligent controllers. Optimal Power Flow Using FACTS Devices: Soft Computing Techniques is aimed at researchers and professionals in the field of power systems.

Book Fault Detection Supervision and Safety of Technical Processes 2006

Download or read book Fault Detection Supervision and Safety of Technical Processes 2006 written by Hong-Yue Zhang and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2007-03-01 with total page 1576 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The safe and reliable operation of technical systems is of great significance for the protection of human life and health, the environment, and of the vested economic value. The correct functioning of those systems has a profound impact also on production cost and product quality. The early detection of faults is critical in avoiding performance degradation and damage to the machinery or human life. Accurate diagnosis then helps to make the right decisions on emergency actions and repairs. Fault detection and diagnosis (FDD) has developed into a major area of research, at the intersection of systems and control engineering, artificial intelligence, applied mathematics and statistics, and such application fields as chemical, electrical, mechanical and aerospace engineering. IFAC has recognized the significance of FDD by launching a triennial symposium series dedicated to the subject. The SAFEPROCESS Symposium is organized every three years since the first symposium held in Baden-Baden in 1991. SAFEPROCESS 2006, the 6th IFAC Symposium on Fault Detection, Supervision and Safety of Technical Processes was held in Beijing, PR China. The program included three plenary papers, two semi-plenary papers, two industrial talks by internationally recognized experts and 258 regular papers, which have been selected out of a total of 387 regular and invited papers submitted. * Discusses the developments and future challenges in all aspects of fault diagnosis and fault tolerant control * 8 invited and 36 contributed sessions included with a special session on the demonstration of process monitoring and diagnostic software tools
