Download or read book Small Stories Research written by Alex Georgakopoulou and published by Taylor & Francis. This book was released on 2023-07-31 with total page 271 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This collection showcases the diversity and disciplinary breadth of small stories research, highlighting the growing critical mass of scholarship on small stories and its reach beyond discourse and sociolinguistic perspectives. The volume both takes stock of and seeks to advance the development of small stories research by Alexandra Georgakopoulou and Michael Bamberg, as a counterpoint to conventional models in narrative studies, one which has accounted for "atypical" yet salient activities in everyday life, such as fragmentation and open-endedness, anchoring onto the present, and co-constructive dimensions in stories and identities. With data from different languages and contexts, emphasis is placed on the analytical aspects of the paradigm toward producing models for the analysis of structures, textual and interactional choices, and genres of small stories. Chapters on the role and commodification of small stories in digital environments reflect on the paradigm’s recent extension to the analysis of social media communication. This book will appeal to scholars interested in narrative inquiry and narrative analysis, in such fields as sociolinguistics, literary studies, communication studies, and biographical studies.

Download or read book The Problem of the Future World written by Eric Porter and published by Duke University Press. This book was released on 2010-11-01 with total page 254 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Problem of the Future World is a compelling reassessment of the later writings of the iconic African American activist and intellectual W. E. B. Du Bois. As Eric Porter points out, despite the outpouring of scholarship devoted to Du Bois, the broad range of writing he produced during the 1940s and early 1950s has not been thoroughly examined in its historical context, nor has sufficient attention been paid to the theoretical interventions he made during those years. Porter locates Du Bois’s later work in relation to what he calls “the first postracial moment.” He suggests that Du Bois’s midcentury writings are so distinctive and so relevant for contemporary scholarship because they were attuned to the shape-shifting character of modern racism, and in particular to the ways that discredited racial taxonomies remained embedded and in force in existing political-economic arrangements at both the local and global levels. Porter moves the conversation about Du Bois and race forward by building on existing work about the theorist, systematically examining his later writings, and looking at them from new perspectives, partly by drawing on recent scholarship on race, neoliberalism, and empire. The Problem of the Future World shows how Du Bois’s later writings help to address race and racism as protean, global phenomena in the present.

Download or read book Sacramental Theology for a Modern and Future World written by Michael Debus and published by SteinerBooks. This book was released on 2022-01-28 with total page 319 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "What Christ Jesus taught is not what is most important, but rather what he has given humanity. His resurrection is the birth of a new faculty within human nature." -- Rudolf Steiner There are many books on sacramental theology --some of which focus on a specific denomination, while others aspire to rigorous academic objectivity. Some also serve as an introduction to a particular branch of Christianity, and Michael Debus's book serves that purpose well. Nevertheless, the author's integration of theological developments through the centuries with a discussion of the evolution of consciousness makes this book unique. He addresses the fact that anyone looking for a new or renewed relationship to Christian religiosity must come to understand the center of religious cognitive consciousness and practical life --the sacraments. Is baptism merely a symbolic act, or is it a reality that affects one's life? Does a final unction affect a person's future stages of destiny? How should we understand the transformation of bread and wine? What spiritual processes are expressed in "rituals"? The Christian Community --working since 1922 as a conscious movement for religious renewal --offers answers to these and other crucial questions. Michael Debus speaks to readers who wish to understand more deeply the spiritual foundations of The Christian Community and its place in theological history and its role in Christianity today. In Sacramental Theology for a Modern and Future World, Michael Debus makes complex topics and concepts accessible to all who wish to understand the background and sacraments of The Christian Community and the Movement for Christian Renewal. This book is a translation of Auferstehungskräfte im Schicksal: Die Sakramente der Christengemeinschaft (Urachhaus, 2011).
