Book Airport Engineering

Download or read book Airport Engineering written by Norman J. Ashford and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2011-04-06 with total page 770 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: First published in 1979, Airport Engineering by Ashford and Wright, has become a classic textbook in the education of airport engineers and transportation planners. Over the past twenty years, construction of new airports in the US has waned as construction abroad boomed. This new edition of Airport Engineering will respond to this shift in the growth of airports globally, with a focus on the role of the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO), while still providing the best practices and tested fundamentals that have made the book successful for over 30 years.

Book Airline Network Development in Europe and its Implications for Airport Planning

Download or read book Airline Network Development in Europe and its Implications for Airport Planning written by Guillaume Burghouwt and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2016-03-23 with total page 360 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The ongoing deregulation and liberalization of worldwide air transport markets confronts airport planners with an increasingly problematic context. On the one hand, the capital intensive, large-scale and complex airport investments need a detailed, long/medium-term planning of airport infrastructure. Such planning requires at least predictable traffic volumes (and traffic composition) within the planning horizon. On the other hand, airline route networks are increasingly dynamic structures that frequently show discontinuous changes. As a consequence, the much more volatile airport traffic restricts the value of detailed traffic forecasts. Volatility of airport traffic and its composition requires flexibility of airport strategies and planning processes. The book explores this dilemma through a detailed study of airline network development, airport connectivity and airport planning in the deregulated EU air transport market. The questions the book seeks to answer are: · how have airlines responded to the regime changes in EU aviation with respect to the configuration of their route networks? · what has been the impact of the reconfiguration of airline network configurations for the connectivity of EU airports? · how can airport planners and airport authorities deal with the increasingly uncertain airline network behaviour in Europe?

Book Airport capacity constraints and strategies for mitigation A global perspective

Download or read book Airport capacity constraints and strategies for mitigation A global perspective written by Marc Gelhausen and published by Academic Press. This book was released on 2019-09-15 with total page 338 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Capacities, Capacity Constraints and Capacity Reserves of Airports, Today and in the Future analyzes airport capacity constraints with empirical methods that forecast future capacities and their capacity shortfalls. When predicting the future of air traffic development, it is imperative for researchers and planners to possess the most accurate data for airport capacity constraints. The book discusses in detail the importance of airport capacity constraints on air traffic development, especially for international hubs, along with mitigation strategies for already packed airports. The book analyzes cross-sectional time-series data to provide greater insight into the problems of airport crowding and over-capacity. The authors go beyond mere strategies to derive capacity, adding estimates for comparable capacities and capacity constraints of airports worldwide. As expanding current airports becomes increasingly difficult, and time consuming-especially for hub-the study of current and future airport capacity constraints becomes ever more needed. Large international airports are especially essential to the global air transport network. The book provides insight into correctly assessing and quantifying the problem of limited airport capacity, while offering strategies for overcoming these issues for a healthy global air traffic network. Focuses on airport capacity constraints in the global air traffic network and their implications for the future of air traffic development Features empirical and model-based approaches that forecast airport capacities and capacity shortcomings Provides over capacity mitigation strategies based on sound and reliable data and methodology Addresses capacity constraints at hub airports, providing insight into correctly assessing and quantifying limited capacity for these important players in the global air transportation network Applies econometric models for the implication of restraining factors on the future volume and structure of air traffic

Book Human Performance and Ergonomics

Download or read book Human Performance and Ergonomics written by Peter A. Hancock and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 1999-04-13 with total page 397 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Human Performance and Ergonomics brings together a comprehensive and modern account of how the context of performance is crucial to understanding behavior. Environment provides both constraints and opportunities to individuals, such that external conditions may have reciprocal or interactive effects on behavior. The book begins with an account of research in human factors and engineering, with application of research to real world environments, methodological concerns, and rumination on current and future trends. The book proceeds to how technology has moved from being designed to help human physical survival to helping humans achieve "quality of life" improvements. Real world examples are explored in detail including hearing technology, driving, and aviation. Issues of control, maneuvering, and planning are discussed in conjunction with how intention and expectancy affect behavior. The fit between human and environment is examined as a dynamic interaction, and many chapters address the all important human-machine communication, particularly that between humans and computers. The book closes with a reminder that even our technological environment is filled with other people, with whom we must interact personally or via technology, to achieve our larger goals. Teamwork is thus discussed for its integration of cognitive, behavioral, and affective components toward our achieving desired aims. * Includes the application of research in human factors in engineering to real world environments * Discussion of both current and future trends is included * Real-world examples of how technology is now helping humans to achieve "quality of life" improvements are explored in detail including hearing technology, driving and aviation * Many chapters examine the all important human/machine communication, particularly human-computer interaction (HCI)

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: At the request of the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), the Transportation Research Board of the National Research Council assembled an expert committee to provide advice on alternative strategies that might be adopted to meet long-term airport capacity needs. The committee was charged with four tasks: (1) to examine long-term airport capacity needs and measures to meet these needs; (2) to formulate alternative strategies reflecting varying assumptions about the growth of air traffic and intercity travel demand, technological development, government roles, and institutional arrangements; (3) to identify the advantages and disadvantages of these strategies; and (4) to recommend strategies for further analysis and evaluation by FAA. This report presents the committee's findings.
