Book Fusion of Defects

Download or read book Fusion of Defects written by Arthur Bartels and published by American Mathematical Soc.. This book was released on 2019-04-10 with total page 102 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Conformal nets provide a mathematical model for conformal field theory. The authors define a notion of defect between conformal nets, formalizing the idea of an interaction between two conformal field theories. They introduce an operation of fusion of defects, and prove that the fusion of two defects is again a defect, provided the fusion occurs over a conformal net of finite index. There is a notion of sector (or bimodule) between two defects, and operations of horizontal and vertical fusion of such sectors. The authors' most difficult technical result is that the horizontal fusion of the vacuum sectors of two defects is isomorphic to the vacuum sector of the fused defect. Equipped with this isomorphism, they construct the basic interchange isomorphism between the horizontal fusion of two vertical fusions and the vertical fusion of two horizontal fusions of sectors.

Book A Practical Guide to Welding Solutions

Download or read book A Practical Guide to Welding Solutions written by Robert W. Messler, Jr. and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2019-04-29 with total page 344 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: As critically important as welding is to a wide spectrum of manufacturing, construction, and repair, it is not without its problems. Those dependent on welding know only too well how easy it is to find information on the host of available processes and on the essential metallurgy that can enable success, but how frustratingly difficult it can be to find guidance on solving problems that sooner or later arise with welding, welds, or weldments. Here for the first time is the book those that practice and/or depend upon welding have needed and awaited. A Practical Guide to Welding Solutions addresses the numerous technical and material-specific issues that can interfere with success. Renowned industrial and academic welding expert and prolific author and speaker Robert W. Messler, Jr. guides readers to the solutions they seek with a well-organized search based on how a problem manifests itself (i.e., as distortion, defect, or appearance), where it appears (i.e., in the fusion zone heat-affected zone, or base metal), or it certain materials or situations.

Book Embryos Genes and Birth Defects

Download or read book Embryos Genes and Birth Defects written by Patrizia Ferretti and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2006-08-04 with total page 562 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The first edition of Embryos, Genes and BirthDefects, edited by the late Peter Thorogood, was a radicalnew book aimed at bridging the gap between the medical disciplinesof embryology and dysmorphology, and recent advances in cellular, molecular and developmental biology. This new edition remainsunique in its breadth and brings up to date our understanding ofbirth defects and of the strategies utilized to gain suchknowledge. It features new chapters on human cytogenetics, mutagenesis and the eyes and ears. The book presents key topics in developmental biology andexplains how they provide the foundations for understandingclinical birth defects. The first six chapters introduce conceptsand strategies adopted to elucidate developmental anomalies leadingto birth defects. The book then focuses on specific organs andreviews the cellular and molecular mechanisms affecting theirdevelopment and how disruption of these mechanisms by genetic orenvironmental factors may underlie certain birth defects. Thechapters are concise and provide up-to-date coverage of topics in aformat that is easily accessible and yet at the forefront ofresearch. Written primarily for paediatricians, obstetricians, clinicalgeneticists and allied workers, this book guides the reader throughthe contribution of modern molecular biology to our understandingof human development. Developmental and cellular biologists willlearn how errors in the cellular and genetic mechanism can lead toclassical disorders, diseases and syndromes.

Book Dualizable Tensor Categories

Download or read book Dualizable Tensor Categories written by Christopher L. Douglas and published by American Mathematical Soc.. This book was released on 2021-06-18 with total page 88 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: We investigate the relationship between the algebra of tensor categories and the topology of framed 3-manifolds. On the one hand, tensor categories with cer-tain algebraic properties determine topological invariants. We prove that fusion categories of nonzero global dimension are 3-dualizable, and therefore provide 3-dimensional 3-framed local field theories. We also show that all finite tensor cat-egories are 2-dualizable, and yield categorified 2-dimensional 3-framed local field theories. On the other hand, topological properties of 3-framed manifolds deter-mine algebraic equations among functors of tensor categories. We show that the 1-dimensional loop bordism, which exhibits a single full rotation, acts as the double dual autofunctor of a tensor category. We prove that the 2-dimensional belt-trick bordism, which unravels a double rotation, operates on any finite tensor category, and therefore supplies a trivialization of the quadruple dual. This approach pro-duces a quadruple-dual theorem for suitably dualizable objects in any symmetric monoidal 3-category. There is furthermore a correspondence between algebraic structures on tensor categories and homotopy fixed point structures, which in turn provide structured field theories; we describe the expected connection between piv-otal tensor categories and combed fixed point structures, and between spherical tensor categories and oriented fixed point structures.

Book Fundamentals of Laser Powder Bed Fusion of Metals

Download or read book Fundamentals of Laser Powder Bed Fusion of Metals written by Igor Yadroitsev and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2021-05-23 with total page 678 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Laser powder bed fusion of metals is a technology that makes use of a laser beam to selectively melt metal powder layer-by-layer in order to fabricate complex geometries in high performance materials. The technology is currently transforming aerospace and biomedical manufacturing and its adoption is widening into other industries as well, including automotive, energy, and traditional manufacturing. With an increase in design freedom brought to bear by additive manufacturing, new opportunities are emerging for designs not possible previously and in material systems that now provide sufficient performance to be qualified in end-use mission-critical applications. After decades of research and development, laser powder bed fusion is now enabling a new era of digitally driven manufacturing. Fundamentals of Laser Powder Bed Fusion of Metals will provide the fundamental principles in a broad range of topics relating to metal laser powder bed fusion. The target audience includes new users, focusing on graduate and undergraduate students; however, this book can also serve as a reference for experienced users as well, including senior researchers and engineers in industry. The current best practices are discussed in detail, as well as the limitations, challenges, and potential research and commercial opportunities moving forward. - Presents laser powder bed fusion fundamentals, as well as their inherent challenges - Provides an up-to-date summary of this advancing technology and its potential - Provides a comprehensive textbook for universities, as well as a reference for industry - Acts as quick-reference guide

Book Animal Models of Human Birth Defects

Download or read book Animal Models of Human Birth Defects written by Aimin Liu and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2020-04-17 with total page 248 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book focuses on the use of animal models to study various human defects. It summarizes our current understanding of a variety of common human birth defects and the essential role of animal models in shedding light on the underlying mechanisms of these disorders. Birth defects are the leading cause of infant deaths, and cost billions of dollars in care for those affected. Unfortunately, the lack of a clear understanding of the mechanisms leading to many of these developmental disorders has hindered effective prevention and early intervention strategies. Studies using animal models have provided essential insights into several human birth defects. This book serves as a valuable reference resource for researchers and graduate students who are interested in learning the basic principles as well as the latest advances in the study of the mechanisms of human birth defects.
