Book Fusarium Wilt of Pigeonpea A Molecular Study

Download or read book Fusarium Wilt of Pigeonpea A Molecular Study written by Naresh Kumar Bainsla and published by LAP Lambert Academic Publishing. This book was released on 2012-02 with total page 80 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Microsatellite markers which are believed to be biallelic and codominant have been found to behave as multiallelic in diploid species like Cajanus cajan L. Millsp. The dominant amplification of SSR markers has now been well accepted as null allele for the absence of the amplification in such plants. Moreover the use of molecular markers depends upon the trait under study of a species and its inheritance. Consideration of inheritance of resistance of biotic stresses like Fusarium wilt in pigeonpea as monogenic or oligogenic based upon the classified scoring system of trait under study and limited population/sample size and limted number of markers may be misguiding. Therefore, the given report will help the young researchers in dealing with the problems associted with the starting difficulties and also to dig into the problems faced during experimentaion and data analysis in general and in case of biotic stress resistance breeding invoving molecular markers in particular.

Book Microsatellie development and application in pigeonpea Cajanus cajan L Millspaugh

Download or read book Microsatellie development and application in pigeonpea Cajanus cajan L Millspaugh written by Damaris Achieng Odeny and published by Cuvillier Verlag. This book was released on 2006-10-02 with total page 110 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Pigeonpea plays an important role as a major legume crop in the arid and semi-arid tropics. Development and utilisation of molecular markers in pigeonpea breeding would be a valuable asset. This study describes the development of 152 new microsatellite markers as a first step towards initiating marker-assisted techniques in pigeonpea. Suitability of the new markers in distinguishing pigeonpea accessions and revealing relationships among wild genotypes, new and old varieties is further demonstrated through cluster analysis. The markers developed in this study will be useful in genomic studies of pigeonpea and closely related species.

Book excerpt: Pigeonpea (Cajanus cajan) is a crop of small land holding farmers in arid and semi-arid regions of the world. It has a number of usages starting from protein rich food to vegetarian families; fuel wood; nitrogen supplier to soil; recycling minerals in soil to animal feed etc. Pigeonpea has been considered to be originated and domesticated in central India from where it travelled to different parts of the world such as Africa and Latin America. In ongoing scenario of climate change, biotic and especially abiotic stresses will make the conditions more challenging for entire agriculture. This volume focusing on the pigeonpea genome will collate the information on the genome sequencing and its utilization in genomics activities, with a focus on the current findings, advanced tools and strategies deployed in pigeonpea genome sequencing and analysis, and how this information is leading to direct outcomes for plant breeders and subsequently to farmers.

Book Current Trends in Plant Disease Diagnostics and Management Practices

Download or read book Current Trends in Plant Disease Diagnostics and Management Practices written by Pradeep Kumar and published by Springer. This book was released on 2016-04-28 with total page 471 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Plant diseases play an important role on our daily lives. Most of plant diseases are visible and are caused by biotic and/or abiotic factors. Symptoms are usually the results of a morphological change, alteration or damage to plant tissue and/or cells due to an interference of the plant’s metabolism. All basic structures of vascular plants are subject to attack by pathogens. The failure in accurate disease diagnosis and management may lead to huge losses in plant production and related commodities, which causes nutritional food scarcity. Typically, the appearance of a biotic symptom will indicate the relatively late stage of an infection and/or colonization of a pathogen. Expert detection, accurate diagnosis, and timely management play a significant role in keeping plants free from pathogens. In this book expert scholars share their research knowledge and key literature which are vital toward the diagnosis of plant diseases across the globe, addressing traditional plant pathology techniques, as well as advanced molecular diagnostic approach.

Book The Fusarium Laboratory Manual

Download or read book The Fusarium Laboratory Manual written by John F. Leslie and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2008-02-28 with total page 402 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: For the first time in over 20 years, a comprehensive collection of photographs and descriptions of species in the fungal genus Fusarium is available. This laboratory manual provides an overview of the biology of Fusarium and the techniques involved in the isolation, identification and characterization of individual species and the populations in which they occur. It is the first time that genetic, morphological and molecular approaches have been incorporated into a volume devoted to Fusarium identification. The authors include descriptions of species, both new and old, and provide protocols for genetic, morphological and molecular identification techniques. The Fusarium Laboratory Manual also includes some of the evolutionary biology and population genetics thinking that has begun to inform the understanding of agriculturally important fungal pathogens. In addition to practical “how-to” protocols it also provides guidance in formulating questions and obtaining answers about this very important group of fungi. The need for as many different techniques as possible to be used in the identification and characterization process has never been greater. These approaches have applications to fungi other than those in the genus Fusarium. This volume presents an introduction to the genus Fusarium, the toxins these fungi produce and the diseases they can cause. "The Fusarium Laboratory Manual is a milestone in the study of the genus Fusarium and will help bridge the gap between morphological and phylogenetic taxonomy. It will be used by everybody dealing with Fusarium in the Third Millenium." --W.F.O. Marasas, Medical Research Council, South Africa

Book Management of Fungal Pathogens in Pulses

Download or read book Management of Fungal Pathogens in Pulses written by Bhim Pratap Singh and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2020-02-03 with total page 227 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Pulses have played a major role in human diet and are considered a rich source of proteins. But, the major constraints in achieving the yield of pulses are the occurrences of various diseases and pests. Hence, there is a need to understand major fungal pathogens and their management strategies for sustainable agriculture. The major pulse crops in India and other Asian countries are bengal gram, pigeon pea, black gram, green gram, lentil and peas, which are attacked by several pathogens that cause considerable crop damage. Bengal gram is affected mainly by wilt (Fusarium oxysporum f. sp. ciceri), blight (Mycosphaerella pinodes) and rust (Uromyces ciceris-arietini). The main diseases of pigeon pea are wilt (Fusarium oxysporum) and Phytophtora stem blight (Phytophthora drechsleri f. sp. cajani). Powdery mildew (Erysiphe polygoni) and rust (Uromyces vicia-fabae) are the most important diseases affecting the production of pea. This volume offers details like symptoms, distribution, pathogens associated, predisposing factors and epidemiology, sources of resistance and holistic management of diseases with particular reference to those of economic importance. Several minor diseases of lentil, green gram and of black gram are discussed with their detailed and updated information. This volume provides pooled information regarding the management of major fungal phytopathogens affecting pulses.
