Book Free spinning Tunnel Tests of a Model of a Canard Airplane

Download or read book Free spinning Tunnel Tests of a Model of a Canard Airplane written by Philip W. Pepoon and published by . This book was released on 1943 with total page 8 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A series of tests was made in the NACA 15-Foot free-spinning tunnel to study the spin characteristics of a 1/24-scale model of a hypothetical canard airplane, which was designed to be the same size and to have the same general aerodynamic characteristics as a Boeing B-247 airplane. The model had a single fin and rudder at the rear of the fuselage.

Book Spin tunnel Tests of a 1 57 33 scale Model of the Northrop XB 35 Airplane

Download or read book Spin tunnel Tests of a 1 57 33 scale Model of the Northrop XB 35 Airplane written by Robert W. Kramm and published by . This book was released on 1944 with total page 24 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A 1/57.33-scale model of the Northrop XB-35 airplane has been tested in the NACA free-spinning tunnel in order to determine the spin characteristics and the tumbling tendencies of the airplane. The XB-35 airplane is a large four-engine bomber of the flying-wing type. It has elevon control surfaces which are used as ailerons or elevators. The airplane is equipped with conventional split flaps whose pitching moments are trimmed out by pitch flaps at the wing tips. The rear portions of the pitch flaps are split and can be deflected as rudders.

This book was released on 2008 with total page 240 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Lockheed Blackbirds hold a unique place in the development of aeronautics. In their day, the A-12, YF-12, M-21, D-21, and SR-71 variants outperformed all other jet airplanes in terms of altitude and speed. Now retired, they remain the only production aircraft capable of sustained Mach 3 cruise and operational altitudes above 80,000 feet. This is the first book to address the technical aspects of these incredible aircraft. The author describes the design evolution of the Blackbird, from the Archangel to the Senior Crown (the Air Force's SR-71.) He describes in detail the construction and materials challenges faced by Lockheed, as well as the Blackbird's performance characteristics and capabilities.A NASA historian, the author describes NASA's role in using the aircraft as a flying laboratory to collect data on materials, structures, loads, heating, aerodynamics, and performance for high-speed aircraft. The reader will benefit from the technical and programmatic lessons learned. This volume was produced in cooperation with the National Aeronautics and Space Administration.
