Book Further Evaluation of Methods for Producing Desired Colors on CRT Monitors

Download or read book Further Evaluation of Methods for Producing Desired Colors on CRT Monitors written by and published by . This book was released on 2000 with total page 16 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Three experiments were performed to evaluate methods for predicting the luminances and chromaticity coordinates produced by color CRT monitors, given known inputs. Linear and logarithmic versions of PLCC and PLVC, plus Berns, Motta, and Gorzynski's power function, were tested. Estimates are provided for the number of CRT measurement points needed to maximize each method's predictive accuracy. Correcting for unintended light from the monitor is shown to improve accuracy substantially for a case involving a seemingly small amount of light. Berns et. al.'s characterization technique, which involves measuring the monitor's neutral point, is shown to yield the same accuracy as conventional characterization while reducing the number of measurements required, and to yield improved accuracy when correction for unintended light is needed but impractical. The accuracies of the predictive methods are compared and recommendations for their use are provided.

Book An Evaluation of Methods for Producing Desired Colors on CRT Monitors

Download or read book An Evaluation of Methods for Producing Desired Colors on CRT Monitors written by and published by . This book was released on 1989 with total page 16 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Three experiments were performed to evaluate methods for generating colors having desired CIE chromaticity coordinates and luminances on CRT monitors. Methods based on piecewise linear interpolation were found to yield better accuracy than others based on linear regression. Comparisons between two monitors revealed no substantial differences in accuracy but the monitor's state of adjustment was found to have important effects. Evidence was also obtained concerning the number of CRT measurement points needed to obtain maximum accuracy from the interpolation-based methods. The methods' accuracies are characterized and avenues for improvement are suggested.

Book Advanced Color Image Processing and Analysis

Download or read book Advanced Color Image Processing and Analysis written by Christine Fernandez-Maloigne and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-07-11 with total page 514 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume does much more than survey modern advanced color processing. Starting with a historical perspective on ways we have classified color, it sets out the latest numerical techniques for analyzing and processing colors, the leading edge in our search to accurately record and print what we see. The human eye perceives only a fraction of available light wavelengths, yet we live in a multicolor world of myriad shining hues. Colors rich in metaphorical associations make us “purple with rage” or “green with envy” and cause us to “see red.” Defining colors has been the work of centuries, culminating in today’s complex mathematical coding that nonetheless remains a work in progress: only recently have we possessed the computing capacity to process the algebraic matrices that reproduce color more accurately. With chapters on dihedral color and image spectrometers, this book provides technicians and researchers with the knowledge they need to grasp the intricacies of today’s color imaging.

Book Fundamentals of Digital Imaging

Download or read book Fundamentals of Digital Imaging written by H. J. Trussell and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 2008-10-30 with total page 533 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The multi-billion dollar industry of digital imaging technology is an active research area with applications in our everyday lives in products such as digital cameras, scanners, printers and display systems. This book presents an introduction to the fundamentals of digital imaging, with emphasis on the basic operations of image capture and display of monochrome and colour images. The authors balance the mathematical description of real problems with practical examples. With a colour-plate section and real-world applications, this book is suitable for graduate students taking courses in digital imaging in electrical engineering and computer science departments. It will also be a useful reference for practitioners in industry.

Book Generation of Specific Chromaticities on CRT Monitors

Download or read book Generation of Specific Chromaticities on CRT Monitors written by Barbara Bernabe and published by . This book was released on 1987 with total page 58 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The increased use of CRT displays for presenting the aviator with flight information has generated an increasing interest in the use of color for representing CRT display symbology. Critical to the implementation of color for this purpose is the development of standardized chromaticities for coding displayed features. Generation of specific chromaticities on CRT displays applied color matching principles using the chromaticities of CRT phosphors as the new set of primaries, and transforming their ratios in the generated color to those of a desired standard color. A procedure to implement this transformation was proposed by Gutmann and Rogers (1982), and further developed by Spiker and Rogers (1984). While their procedure was theoretically sound with respect to color mixing principles, it failed to produce predicted chromaticities when used in conjunction with a variety of commercial and aircraft CRT monitors. This result raised some perplexing issues with respect to the relationship between color display technology, the science of color mixing, and the psychophysics of color perception. This report attempts to clarify the problem of direct application of color mixing to CRT's and proposes a modified procedure for generating specific chromaticities on CRT displays suitable for use in a field environment.

Book A Simple Calibration Procedure for Color CRT Displays

Download or read book A Simple Calibration Procedure for Color CRT Displays written by David F. Neri and published by . This book was released on 1988 with total page 29 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A simple calibration procedure for color CRT displays is described. It provides a convenient means of producing colors specified in terms of their chromaticity coordinates and luminance, as well as the inverse procedure -- determining the chromaticity and luminance of displayed colors to a reasonable degree of accuracy without direct measurement. It is intended for those with access to a spectroradiometer but with little or no background in color perception and measurement. A brief description of the commonly used 1931 CIE system of colorimetry is provided as background. References are provided for those desiring further information on the CIE system and issues affecting accurate color CRT calibration. Keywords: Colorimetric analysis; Color television; Cathode ray tube screens. (kt).
