Book Bits N Pieces

Download or read book Bits N Pieces written by Colleen Chapman and published by AuthorHouse. This book was released on 2018-10-05 with total page 554 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book briefly covers my early life up to present, age eighty-four. I started this project several years ago, just me, for my kids. Then I decided it would be fun to ask my family and friends to contribute. Just one rule: No one could say anything negative about another person. It is mostly fond memories and funny stories or incidents. It is a little bit of family history, such as a story by my oldest sister about leaving Oklahoma during the Depression, about picking cotton and working in other crops. I was about eighteen months old when we left and about seven when we reached California. Included also are some true stories about strange things that have happened to myself and some family members.

Book excerpt: ?Not only funny, it?s also fully triumphant...a heartbreaking pleasure to read.?(Elle) Suzanne Finnamore didn?t see it coming. Well, she saw some things?for example, a cocktail napkin on which her husband had scribbled a Cole Porter love song and an indecipherable name?but she refused to acknowledge it. She was busy tending to their son and creating the perfect home. Until the night it all imploded. ?I deserve happiness,? he said, which apparently translated into ousting her from his life. At once funny, sad, and unflinchingly fierce, this memoir will resonate with anyone who has endured the end of a relationship?and come out on the other side changed.

Book On Thin Ice The Life and Times of a North Woods Caretaker

Download or read book On Thin Ice The Life and Times of a North Woods Caretaker written by Caperton Tissot and published by Lulu.com. This book was released on 2018-11 with total page 294 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "The plot is engaging...Tissot tells a moving story..." Christian Woodard, book reviewer, Adirondack Daily Enterprise, NY In this novel of mystery, fun and sorrow, a man struggles to make a fresh start in life. Tuck Rising, an injured ski champion, returns to his hometown to find work as a Great Camp caretaker. With his new bride Britt Freier and his daughter Tibetta, he moves into a rustic home in the village of Meltmor, planning to stay only until he recovers from his injury and can return to racing. Like walking on thin ice, every step he takes brings him closer to peril. The story romps through the high jinks and hard times of a northern village and shines a light on the little known lives of caretakers. In a twist of magic realism, Pitt and his pet Rat's prophesies remind us that the way forward is not always clear. Life in the North brings Tuck far more obstacles than flags on a race course. Will Tuck overcome the challenges? Hold on to his family? Make his way back to the race course? Will misinformation and cover-ups obstruct his path to success? This book is a revision of Tibetta's World; High Jinks and Hard Times in the North Country. What readers are saying. "... vivid imagination along with knowledge of our beloved Adirondacks and small town people..." - Win, France "... a wonderful novel ... I think everyone should read it from 10 to 90. - Diana, New York "...mystery, love, murder, humor and philosophy all rolled into one..." - Liz, New York

What if the afterlife is nothing more than a London suburb, where the dead get new flats, new jobs, and their own telephone directory? These are the sort of truths that emerge in this collection of stories by one of England's most gifted writers. Download or read book I Love Jesus But I Want to Die written by Sarah J. Robinson and published by WaterBrook. This book was released on 2021-05-11 with total page 257 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A compassionate, shame-free guide for your darkest days “A one-of-a-kind book . . . to read for yourself or give to a struggling friend or loved one without the fear that depression and suicidal thoughts will be minimized, medicalized or over-spiritualized.”—Kay Warren, cofounder of Saddleback Church What happens when loving Jesus doesn’t cure you of depression, anxiety, or suicidal thoughts? You might be crushed by shame over your mental illness, only to be told by well-meaning Christians to “choose joy” and “pray more.” So you beg God to take away the pain, but nothing eases the ache inside. As darkness lingers and color drains from your world, you’re left wondering if God has abandoned you. You just want a way out. But there’s hope. In I Love Jesus, But I Want to Die, Sarah J. Robinson offers a healthy, practical, and shame-free guide for Christians struggling with mental illness. With unflinching honesty, Sarah shares her story of battling depression and fighting to stay alive despite toxic theology that made her afraid to seek help outside the church. Pairing her own story with scriptural insights, mental health research, and simple practices, Sarah helps you reconnect with the God who is present in our deepest anguish and discover that you are worth everything it takes to get better. Beautifully written and full of hard-won wisdom, I Love Jesus, But I Want to Die offers a path toward a rich, hope-filled life in Christ, even when healing doesn’t look like what you expect.

Book Living Up The Street

Book excerpt: In a prose that is so beautiful it is poetry, we see the world of growing up and going somewhere through the dust and heat of Fresno's industrial side and beyond: It is a boy's coming of age in the barrio, parochial school, attending church, public summer school, and trying to fall out of love so he can join in a Little League baseball team. His is a clarity that rings constantly through the warmth and wry reality of these sometimes humorous, sometimes tragic, always human remembrances.

Download or read book The 56th Evac Hospital written by Lawrence D. Collins and published by University of North Texas Press. This book was released on 1995 with total page 316 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "I see no way that we junior officers will ever be prepared for any major surgery....I've a premonition that in time it is inevitable. We'll have to perform major surgery on our own, ready or not". Thus wrote Dr. L. D. Collins at the beginning of his tour of duty with the 56th Evacuation Hospital (a mobile tent hospital similar to the M*A*S*H units of Korean War fame), largely staffed by men and women who trained at the Baylor University College of Medicine in Dallas, Texas. Collins chronicles the experiences of the "Baylor Unit", from its training in Texas, through the relatively uncomplicated months in Morocco and Bizerte, to its service in Italy at Paestum, Dragoni, and worst of all, the desperate "Hell's Half Acre" of Anzio Beach. Because of frequent shelling of the hospitals, patients were known to go AWOL to the front, where it was considered safer. During the Anzio campaign, 92 medical personnel were killed in action, 387 were wounded, 19 captured and 60 more missing in action.
