Book Partial Differential Equations 1

Download or read book Partial Differential Equations 1 written by Friedrich Sauvigny and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-03-28 with total page 459 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This two-volume textbook provides comprehensive coverage of partial differential equations, spanning elliptic, parabolic, and hyperbolic types in two and several variables. In this first volume, special emphasis is placed on geometric and complex variable methods involving integral representations. The following topics are treated: • integration and differentiation on manifolds • foundations of functional analysis • Brouwer's mapping degree • generalized analytic functions • potential theory and spherical harmonics • linear partial differential equations This new second edition of this volume has been thoroughly revised and a new section on the boundary behavior of Cauchy’s integral has been added. The second volume will present functional analytic methods and applications to problems in differential geometry. This textbook will be of particular use to graduate and postgraduate students interested in this field and will be of interest to advanced undergraduate students. It may also be used for independent study.

Book An Introduction to Classical Complex Analysis

Download or read book An Introduction to Classical Complex Analysis written by R.B. Burckel and published by Birkhäuser. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 572 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is an attempt to cover some of the salient features of classical, one variable complex function theory. The approach is analytic, as opposed to geometric, but the methods of all three of the principal schools (those of Cauchy, Riemann and Weierstrass) are developed and exploited. The book goes deeply into several topics (e.g. convergence theory and plane topology), more than is customary in introductory texts, and extensive chapter notes give the sources of the results, trace lines of subsequent development, make connections with other topics, and offer suggestions for further reading. These are keyed to a bibliography of over 1,300 books and papers, for each of which volume and page numbers of a review in one of the major reviewing journals is cited. These notes and bibliography should be of considerable value to the expert as well as to the novice. For the latter there are many references to such thoroughly accessible journals as the American Mathematical Monthly and L'Enseignement Mathématique. Moreover, the actual prerequisites for reading the book are quite modest; for example, the exposition assumes no prior knowledge of manifold theory, and continuity of the Riemann map on the boundary is treated without measure theory.

Book Analysis I

    Book Details:
  • Author : Roger Godement
  • Publisher : Springer Science & Business Media
  • Release : 2012-12-06
  • ISBN : 364218491X
  • Pages : 453 pages

Download or read book Analysis I written by Roger Godement and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 453 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Functions in R and C, including the theory of Fourier series, Fourier integrals and part of that of holomorphic functions, form the focal topic of these two volumes. Based on a course given by the author to large audiences at Paris VII University for many years, the exposition proceeds somewhat nonlinearly, blending rigorous mathematics skilfully with didactical and historical considerations. It sets out to illustrate the variety of possible approaches to the main results, in order to initiate the reader to methods, the underlying reasoning, and fundamental ideas. It is suitable for both teaching and self-study. In his familiar, personal style, the author emphasizes ideas over calculations and, avoiding the condensed style frequently found in textbooks, explains these ideas without parsimony of words. The French edition in four volumes, published from 1998, has met with resounding success: the first two volumes are now available in English.

Book Theoretical Fluid Dynamics

Download or read book Theoretical Fluid Dynamics written by Achim Feldmeier and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2020-03-17 with total page 580 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This textbook gives an introduction to fluid dynamics based on flows for which analytical solutions exist, like individual vortices, vortex streets, vortex sheets, accretions disks, wakes, jets, cavities, shallow water waves, bores, tides, linear and non-linear free-surface waves, capillary waves, internal gravity waves and shocks. Advanced mathematical techniques ("calculus") are introduced and applied to obtain these solutions, mostly from complex function theory (Schwarz-Christoffel theorem and Wiener-Hopf technique), exterior calculus, singularity theory, asymptotic analysis, the theory of linear and nonlinear integral equations and the theory of characteristics. Many of the derivations, so far contained only in research journals, are made available here to a wider public.

Book A Complex Analysis Problem Book

Download or read book A Complex Analysis Problem Book written by Daniel Alpay and published by Birkhäuser. This book was released on 2016-10-26 with total page 592 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This second edition presents a collection of exercises on the theory of analytic functions, including completed and detailed solutions. It introduces students to various applications and aspects of the theory of analytic functions not always touched on in a first course, while also addressing topics of interest to electrical engineering students (e.g., the realization of rational functions and its connections to the theory of linear systems and state space representations of such systems). It provides examples of important Hilbert spaces of analytic functions (in particular the Hardy space and the Fock space), and also includes a section reviewing essential aspects of topology, functional analysis and Lebesgue integration. Benefits of the 2nd edition Rational functions are now covered in a separate chapter. Further, the section on conformal mappings has been expanded.

Download or read book Riemann Surfaces written by Lars Valerian Ahlfors and published by Princeton University Press. This book was released on 2015-12-08 with total page 397 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The theory of Riemann surfaces has a geometric and an analytic part. The former deals with the axiomatic definition of a Riemann surface, methods of construction, topological equivalence, and conformal mappings of one Riemann surface on another. The analytic part is concerned with the existence and properties of functions that have a special character connected with the conformal structure, for instance: subharmonic, harmonic, and analytic functions. Originally published in 1960. The Princeton Legacy Library uses the latest print-on-demand technology to again make available previously out-of-print books from the distinguished backlist of Princeton University Press. These editions preserve the original texts of these important books while presenting them in durable paperback and hardcover editions. Book Encyclopaedia of Mathematics

Download or read book Encyclopaedia of Mathematics written by Michiel Hazewinkel and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 543 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This ENCYCLOPAEDIA OF MATHEMATICS aims to be a reference work for all parts of mathe matics. It is a translation with updates and editorial comments of the Soviet Mathematical Encyclopaedia published by 'Soviet Encyclopaedia Publishing House' in five volumes in 1977-1985. The annotated translation consists of ten volumes including a special index volume. There are three kinds of articles in this ENCYCLOPAEDIA. First of all there are survey-type articles dealing with the various main directions in mathematics (where a rather fme subdivi sion has been used). The main requirement for these articles has been that they should give a reasonably complete up-to-date account of the current state of affairs in these areas and that they should be maximally accessible. On the whole, these articles should be understandable to mathematics students in their first specialization years, to graduates from other mathematical areas and, depending on the specific subject, to specialists in other domains of science, en gineers and teachers of mathematics. These articles treat their material at a fairly general level and aim to give an idea of the kind of problems, techniques and concepts involved in the area in question. They also contain background and motivation rather than precise statements of precise theorems with detailed definitions and technical details on how to carry out proofs and constructions. The second kind of article, of medium length, contains more detailed concrete problems, results and techniques.
