Download or read book Flexible Bodies written by Anusha Kedhar and published by . This book was released on 2020 with total page 273 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Flexible Bodies honors the lives and labor of British South Asian dancers and celebrates their contributions to a distinct and dynamic sector of British dance. Drawing on expertise gained from over seven years dancing in Britain, author Anusha Kedhar presents a multifaceted picture of British South Asian dance as its own distinctive genre.ÂAnalyzing dance works, dance films, rehearsals, and touring - alongside immigration policy, arts funding initiatives, and global economic conditions - Flexible Bodies traces shifts in British South Asian dance from 1990s "Cool Britannia" multiculturalism to fallout from the 2008 global financial crisis and, more recently, the anti-immigration rhetoric leading up to the Brexit referendum in 2016. Kedhar draws on over a decade of interviews and conversations with dancers in Britain as well as in-depth choreographic analysis of major dance works to reveal the creative ways in which British South Asian dancers negotiate neoliberal, multicultural dance markets through an array of flexible bodily practices. Providing a new, critical dance studies lens through which to view the precarious economic, racial, national, and legal positions of South Asians in Britain, Flexible BodiesÂultimately argues for centering dance labor in studies of neoliberalism.

Book excerpt: Many people waste a great deal of time writing bids or tenders that are not successful. Even worse, they may succeed in gaining funding for a project or service where the plans and budgeting are poorly thought through in relation to the implementation or application. That can be a very costly mistake if the funding you gain is insufficient but you are stuck with developing the project or service. "Making an Effective Bid" outlines everything you need to know for writing successful bids and tenders. It is full of tips and advice and introduces ideas for building up contacts, setting up networks, organising potential collaborators and avoiding pitfalls. Examples of successful and not-so-successful bids are included to fully illustrate the concepts. With practice, you should become more adept at writing bids and gaining funds that further your work and career. This book is a vital guide for those in health and social care who are required to, or want to, make a bid or tender for resources - for money, work, staff, equipment, research, educational activities or a new service. It will help you to develop a greater understanding of making successful bids, and go on to compose a bid or tender with the essential ingredients to succeed. Download or read book Population Studies and Development from Theory to Fieldwork written by Véronique Petit and published by Springer. This book was released on 2017-10-30 with total page 242 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book addresses major population and development issues: fertility and reproductive health, migrations, gender, education, poverty and inequalities. To that aim it revisits and considerably enlarges Kingsley Davis’ 1963 theory of change and response, using interdisciplinary methodologies. On the basis of four decades of field research (1985-2015), it questions the rationality of the actors, how culture shapes socio-demographic behaviours, in a context of modernity and globalisation. More specifically, it casts new light on the interactions of individuals, families, networks and local communities with the State and its population policy.
Download or read book Defiant Bodies written by Nikoli A. Attai and published by Rutgers University Press. This book was released on 2023-07-14 with total page 141 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In the Anglophone Caribbean, international queer human rights activists strategically located within and outside of the region have dominated interventions seeking to address issues affecting people across the region; a trend that is premised on an idea that the Caribbean is extremely homophobic and transphobic, resulting in violence and death for people who defy dominant sexual and gender boundaries. Human rights activists continue to utilize international financial and political resources to influence these interventions and the region’s engagement on issues of homophobia, transphobia, discrimination, and the HIV/AIDS epidemic. This focus, however, elides the deeply complex nature of queerness across different spaces and places, and fails to fully account for the nuances of queer sexual and gender politics and community making across the Caribbean. Defiant Bodies: Making Queer Community in the Anglophone Caribbean problematizes the neocolonial and homoimperial nature of queer human rights activism in in four Anglophone Caribbean nations -- Barbados, Guyana, Jamaica, and Trinidad and Tobago -- and thinks critically about the limits of human rights as a tool for seeking queer liberation. It also offers critical insight into the ways that queer people negotiate, resist, and disrupt homophobia, transphobia, and discrimination by mobilizing “on the ground” and creating transgressive communities within the region.

Download or read book Under New Public Management written by Alison I. Griffith and published by University of Toronto Press. This book was released on 2014-09-17 with total page 341 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The institutional ethnographies collected in Under New Public Management explore how new managerial governance practices coordinate the work of people doing front-line work in public sectors such as health, education, social services, and international development, and people management in the private sector. In these fields, organizations have increasingly adopted private-sector management techniques, such as standardized and quantitative measures of performance and an obsession with cost reductions and efficiency. These practices of “new public management” are changing the ways in which front-line workers engage with their clients, students, or patients. Using research drawn from Canada, the United States, Australia, and Denmark, the contributors expose how standardized managerial requirements are created and applied, and how they affect the practicalities of working with people whose lives and experiences are complex and unique.
