Book Kiln Drying of Lumber

Download or read book Kiln Drying of Lumber written by R.B. Keey and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 331 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: At present, no single book adequately covers a basic understanding of wood book satisfies the need for such a work. It describes drying in practice. This the fundamental basis of kiln-drying technology, to enable forest companies to imFrove their drying operations as high-quality timbers become scarcer and of yesteryear can no longer be tolerated. Adaptive the wasteful practices is no longer good enough. Innovations change based on past experience of the material being dried and the processes require a sound understanding of drying. Newer techniques, such as the use of ultrahigh temperature sea soning and superheated steam under vacuum, require an even greater depth of physical understanding for these methods to be used effectively and economically. book provides a description of modern ideas about wood structure, This moisture movement and stress development, from which models of the drying process are developed to give the kiln operator important information about the course of drying under specified conditions, and thus a means is compared with practice wherever for rational process improvement. Theory possible.

Book Drying Hardwood Lumber

Download or read book Drying Hardwood Lumber written by Joseph Denig and published by . This book was released on 2000 with total page 148 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Drying Hardwood Lumber focuses on common methods for drying lumber of different thickness, with minimal drying defects, for high quality applications. This manual also includes predrying treatments that, when part of an overall quality-oriented drying system, reduce defects and improve drying quality, especially of oak lumber. Special attention is given to drying white wood, such as hard maple and ash, without sticker shadow or other discoloration. Several special drying methods, such as solar drying, are described, and proper techniques for storing dried lumber are discussed. Suggestions are provided for ways to economize on drying costs by reducing drying time and energy demands when feasible. Each chapter is accompanied by a list of references. Some references are cited in the chapter; others are listed as additional sources of information.

Book Selecting and Drying Wood

Download or read book Selecting and Drying Wood written by Editors Of Fine Woodworking and published by Taunton Press. This book was released on 2006 with total page 166 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book collects the best articles from recent issues of "Fine Woodworking" on the subject of finding and working with wood. Wood is the one thing that woodworkers have in common and there is endless fascination with the working properties of various species, how to select and season wood and how to store it. Wood has a way of behaving as if it's still alive, moving with seasonal changes in temperature and humidity. Learning to work with it rather than against wood movement is critical to successful woodworking. Book Quality Drying of Hardwood Lumber Guidebook checklist

Download or read book Quality Drying of Hardwood Lumber Guidebook checklist written by R. Sidney Boone and published by . This book was released on 1992 with total page 60 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The IMPROVE Lumber Drying Program is intended to increase awareness of the lumber drying system as a critical component in the manufacture of quality lumber. One objective of the program is to provide easy-to-use tools that a kiln operator can use to maintain an efficient kiln operation and therefore improve lumber drying quality. This report is one component of the IMPROVE Program. It contains a Guidebook-Checklist for Quality Drying of Hardwood Lumber that kiln operators or owners can use to readily evaluate how well their operations rate on those factors that most strongly affect drying quality, with particular emphasis on kiln operation and maintenance and lumber handling. Appendix 1 contains a shortened version of the checklist for easy duplication and filing. Appendix 2 contains the same checklist items; however, the information is arranged by drying system components for convenience in checking individual components.

Book Drying Eastern Hardwood Lumber Agriculture Handbook No 528

Download or read book Drying Eastern Hardwood Lumber Agriculture Handbook No 528 written by John M. Mcmillen and published by . This book was released on 2016-12 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Interest in broader utilization of hardwoods has been spurred by shortages of softwoods and an apparent surplus of hardwoods. However, to greatly increase use of hardwoods will require simplified drying procedures. At the same time, the better grades of hardwoods must be seasoned by methods less wasteful of both material and the energy required to dry it. These facts make this publication desirable. The handbook is confined to eastern hardwoods because most of the hardwood timber grows in the Eastern United States. Much of the general methodology will apply to western hardwoods, but some species have special problems and some localities have severe air drying weather; western hardwood users should consult local authorities on specific questions. Without supplanting the two existing handbooks on kiln drying and air drying lumber, this handbook combines improvements in practice with new research findings to provide savings in costs and energy.
