Book Parks and Recreation and Economics

Download or read book Parks and Recreation and Economics written by Jadrian Wooten and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2021-06-29 with total page 167 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book provides an in-depth look at the primary foundations of economics explored through the lens of the Pawnee Department of Parks and Recreation. Each episode of the hit television series, Parks and Recreation, includes material to help an eager learner understand the basics of one of the most fascinating fields of study. Whether you’ve wondered how economists determine specialization or why fast-food restaurants continue to pop up around your neighborhood, the same situations have occurred in Pawnee. Each chapter highlights key scenes or major episodes that demonstrate how the characters experience economics in exactly the same way the rest of us do. This text primarily builds on the debates that take place between Leslie, Ron, and their co-workers, while also exploring key questions such as whether governments should try to help people through direct intervention or sell off all the swings to private corporations and let businesses handle day-to-day decisions. Learn how incentives can make Jerry appear to be a more productive employee short-term, but end up causing chaos. Do you wonder what it would be like to live in the early 1800s? Thankfully Leslie has already done that for us. This book is a must-read for anyone looking for a fun way to learn the principles of economics, including as a supplementary text, and for all fans of Parks and Recreation. Take the advice of Tom and Donna and treat yo’ self to this key read.

Book Estimating Future Recreational Demand

Download or read book Estimating Future Recreational Demand written by Peter T. Yao and published by Nova Science Publishers. This book was released on 2009 with total page 72 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "The purpose of this book is to help practitioners assess recreation demand in their routine administration and planning processes and to help decision makers make better and more defensible decisions. The estimation of recreation demand is a decision based upon sound professional judgment and due consideration of many information sources and factors. The field of decision science has determined that humans need analytical structure and tools to best deal with complex decisions. Thus, this book is a question-based tool to help practitioners assemble and analyze important available information. Recreation demand is the estimated number of people who are projected to participate in a particular recreation opportunity at some predetermined future time and location. The target audiences for this book include recreation planners, resource managers, park superintendents, refuge managers, river and trail managers, landscape architects, facility and site designers, interpretive planners, economists, budget and policy analysts, community planners and recreation business operators. The issue of recreation demand is not a unique or occasional question facing one agency. Rather, it is an ongoing question challenging all local, State, Federal and private recreation providers. This book encourages an interagency and collaborative perspective to gather and analyze existing information."--Publisher's description.

Book The Measurement of Environmental and Resource Values

Download or read book The Measurement of Environmental and Resource Values written by A. Myrick Freeman III and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2014-06-05 with total page 479 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The first edition of this important work was the winner of the 2002 Publication of Enduring Quality award by the Association of Environmental and Resource Economists. The continuing premise for the book is that estimates of the economic values of environmental and natural resource services are essential for effective policy-making. As previous editions, the third edition, which includes two additional co-authors, presents a comprehensive treatment of the theory and methods involved in estimating environmental benefits. Researchers, policy-makers, and practitioners will welcome the work as an up-to-date reference on recent developments. Students will gain a better understanding of the contribution that economics as a discipline can make to decisions concerning pollution control and human health, recreation, environmental amenities, and other critical issues concerning the way we use and interact with environmental and natural resource systems. To reflect recent progress in both the theory and practice of non-market valuation, the third edition includes more details on empirical approaches to measurement, expanded discussion of the reasons for divergence between "willingness to pay" and "willingness to accept compensation," and increased coverage of econometric issues encountered in estimation. In keeping with its cutting edge orientation, it also includes more discussion of survey design, equilibrium sorting models, and the implications of behavioral economics for welfare measurements and benefit cost analysis.

Book Count Data Models and the Problem of Zeros in Recreation Demand Analysis

Download or read book Count Data Models and the Problem of Zeros in Recreation Demand Analysis written by Timothy C. Haab and published by . This book was released on 2020 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this paper we develop a count data model for consumer demand which explicitly allows for a large number of zero observations for the dependent variable, and separation of the participation versus quantity decisions. The advantages of the model over traditional censored and count demand models are brought out, and the appropriate consumer surplus measures are derived. By introducing a random error term into the traditional count model demand function, the appropriate measure of expected consumer surplus for count models is derived. The model is illustrated using a recreational survey of the general population.
