Book The Basics of Christianity

Download or read book The Basics of Christianity written by John Rogers and published by Archway Publishing. This book was released on 2020-07-02 with total page 48 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Without knowing the basics of Christianity, there is no way to truly understand the “good news” of the Gospel of Jesus Christ. God offers a chance for the best life now, and the promise of eternal life through faith in His son as savior and redeemer – something John Rogers drives home in this book. Focusing on the fundamentals of Christianity, he introduces selected Scriptures and bolsters them with modern and relevant commentary. He also answers questions such as: • What does it mean to have free will? • What is the most important decision you can make in your life? • What must you do to enjoy eternal life? The author notes that God’s will and ways are not human wills and ways. We may be incapable of understanding His plans or the vast expanse of the universe, but we can pray for His guidance. Believing in an unseen being challenges us to believe in things even more incredible: our Heavenly Father, the virgin birth of His resurrected Son, and eternal life. Conquer these challenges and walk with the Lord with this important overview of Christianity.

Book The Fundamental Doctrines of the Christian Faith

Download or read book The Fundamental Doctrines of the Christian Faith written by Reuben Archer Torrey and published by Createspace Independent Publishing Platform. This book was released on 1918 with total page 336 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The author of these sermons has had a feeling for a long time that the great need in our churches in this day is systematic indoctrination. He put his theory into practice last winter in his own church, and these sermons are the result. We were having a great many accessions to our church. In the two years of the church's history we had had something like six hundred accessions to the church, and every month considerable numbers of new members were being added. While many of these came by letter from other churches, many of them were new converts and had had practically no systematic instruction in the fundamental truths of the Christian faith, so we announced a series of sermons on The Fundamental Doctrines of the Christian Faith. There was immediately a large increase in the attendance at the services where these addresses were given, and this increase has kept up until on the last Lord's Day we had much the largest attendance we have ever had, excepting on Easter Sunday. Many have testified to the blessing received from these sermons, and there has been a great demand that the sermons be printed for general circulation. This request has come from ministers of various denominations, Episcopalians, Presbyterians, Methodists, Baptists, and others. It is hoped that this volume will be useful to other pastors in suggesting lines of teaching in their regular pastoral work, and also that it may be used widely by pastors and others for circulation among Christians. We live in a day in which many of our church members are all at sea as to what they believe on the fundamental doctrines of the Christian faith. These sermons have already helped many through their delivery. It is hoped they will reach and help far more in the printed form.

Book excerpt: Being the Chosen explores Christian fundamentalism in the USA, focusing particularly on the belief system of Protestant fundamentalists. It establishes the key characteristics of the Protestant worldview, investigating the degrees to which these are adhered to amongst different groups and how such belief systems are constructed and reinforced through everyday life. By presenting rich empirical material, Being the Chosen sheds light on the manner in which the Protestant fundamentalist worldview shapes and constructs the beliefs and actions of its adherents, providing them with agency and reinforcement in the face of oppositional forces. As such, it will interest not only sociologists, but also scholars of religion and the culture and society of the USA.

Book The Uneasy Conscience of Modern Fundamentalism

Download or read book The Uneasy Conscience of Modern Fundamentalism written by Carl F. H. Henry and published by Wm. B. Eerdmans Publishing. This book was released on 2003-08-29 with total page 116 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Originally published in 1947, The Uneasy Conscience of Modern Fundamentalism has since served as the manifesto of evangelical Christians serious about bringing the fundamentals of the Christian faith to bear in contemporary culture. In this classic book Carl F. H. Henry, the father of modern fundamentalism, pioneered a path for active Christian engagement with the world -- a path as relevant today as when it was first staked out. Now available again and featuring a new foreword by Richard J. Mouw, The Uneasy Conscience of Modern Fundamentalism offers a bracing world-and-life view that calls for boldness on the part of the evangelical community. Henry argues that a reformation is imperative within the ranks of conservative Christianity, one that will result in an ecumenical passion for souls and in the power to meaningfully address the social and intellectual needs of the world.
