Book excerpt: Fibrinolysis in Disease reviews the state of the art of basic and clinical aspects of the fibrinolytic enzyme system. The text, authored by outstanding and internationally known investigators, is presented in two books. The Malignant Process, Interventions in Thrombogenic Mechanisms, and Novel Treatment Modalities discusses the molecular biology of the system's key components and their fundamental roles in a variety of thrombotic and metabolic disorders. Molecular and Hemovascular Aspects of Fybrinolysis presents the latest findings and concepts of the association between plasminogen activator (u-PA) overexpression and abnormal growth regulation in a variety of solid tumors and in leukemia. One chapter deals with various successful interventions in thrombogenic mechanisms, ranging from exercise and diet to anticoagulants and direct and indirect thrombolytic agents. It concludes with a projection of exciting, novel treatment modalities in thrombotic and malignant diseases.

Book Fibrinolysis and Thrombolysis

Download or read book Fibrinolysis and Thrombolysis written by Krasimir Kolev and published by BoD – Books on Demand. This book was released on 2014-05-07 with total page 210 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book familiarizes the reader with some recent trends in the theory and practice of thrombolysis. It covers the field of fibrinolysis from the standpoint of basic scientists and clinicians and delivers the state-of-the-art information on the biochemistry and pharmacology of fibrinolysis, as well as related novel methodological and diagnostic tools in the field. Book Current Aspects of Blood Coagulation Fibrinolysis and Platelets

Download or read book Current Aspects of Blood Coagulation Fibrinolysis and Platelets written by Ming-Ching Shen and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-11-11 with total page 191 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The first Sino-Japanese symposium on Coagulation, Fibrinolysis and Platelets, originating from the Hamamatsu symposium, held in early 1990, was held in Hanchow, Mainland China in October, 1990. During that meeting, Taipei was selected as the next meeting place. We took great pleasure in carrying out this noble endeavor and were honored to have Professor Stenflo, Professor Hedner from Sweden, Professor Aoki and many other distinguished scientists from Japan joining us on this Second Sino-Japanese symposium. Our only regret was that our friends from Mainland China did not attend. The topics covered during the 3-day symposium included areas of both basic and clinical research. The symposium has been an excellent opportunity for all the participants to exchange ideas and improve their expertise, and at the same time, to expand frontiers in the field of coagulation, fibrinolysis and platelets. The symposium was very successful both in terms of contributing greatly to raise the level of research and development in the field of thrombosis and hemostasis and in helping to promote international scientific cooperation and friendship. We would like to express our appreciation to the members of our organizing and scientific committee for their devotion to this project. We also wish to thank our National Science Council and Department of Health, and the Asia and Pacific Council for Science and Technology, as well as the many other sponsors for their financial support. Without them, this instructive and invaluable symposium and this proceedings would not have been possible.

Book Recent Progress in Blood Coagulation and Fibrinolysis

Download or read book Recent Progress in Blood Coagulation and Fibrinolysis written by Akikazu Takada and published by Elsevier Science & Technology. This book was released on 1997 with total page 280 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Hardbound. Great progress has been made recently in basic and clinical research aspects of thrombosis and fibrinolysis. This progress has implications not only in haemorrhagic and thrombotic conditions, but also in such widely diverse clinical conditions as atherosclerosis, diabetes, obesity, tumor growth/metastasis, pregnancy etc. Procedures employed in this research include not only new biochemical approaches but also novel procedures in molecular biology which involve gene neutralisation, manipulation and transfection. In view of such new developments, the organisers thought it timely to have an International Symposium dealing with blood coagulation and fibrinolysis involving international experts and Japanese scientists. This book documents the proceedings and is beneficial to those wishing to update their information on this very important clinical area.

Book Fibrous Proteins Structures and Mechanisms

Download or read book Fibrous Proteins Structures and Mechanisms written by David A.D. Parry and published by Springer. This book was released on 2017-01-18 with total page 629 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book provides the readers with an up-to-date review of the design, structure and function of a representative selection of fibrous proteins in both health and disease. The importance of the α-helical coiled coil, a conformational motif based on the heptad repeat in the amino acid sequence of all α-fibrous proteins (and parts of some globular proteins) is underlined by three Chapters devoted to its design, structure, function and topology. Specific proteins covered in the text and which depend on the coiled coil for their structure and function, include the intermediate filament proteins, tropomyosin, myosin, paramyosin, fibrin and members of the spectrin superfamily. Also described are fibrous proteins based on the β-pleated sheet and collagen conformations. Recombinant structural proteins, especially of silk and collagen, are discussed in the context of developing new biomaterials with varied applications. Established researchers and postgraduate students in the fields of protein chemistry, biochemistry and structural biophysics will find Fibrous Proteins: Structures and Mechanisms to be an invaluable collection of topical reviews that describe the basic advances made in the field of fibrous proteins over the past decade. This book, written by recognized authorities in the field, provides a clear account of the current status of fibrous protein research and, in addition, establishes the basis for deciding the most appropriate directions for future activity, including the applications of protein engineering and the commercial exploitation of new biomaterials.

Book Molecular Cellular and Clinical Aspects of Angiogenesis

Download or read book Molecular Cellular and Clinical Aspects of Angiogenesis written by Michael E. Maragoudakis and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 290 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: There has been an explosion of research activity related to angiogenesis in recent years, and hundreds of laboratories worldwide are actively involved in many aspects of angiogenesiS. The literature on angiogenesis increases exponentially every year, and more than 16,000 peer-reviewed articles have been published the past 25 years, which are scattered in basic science and clinical journals. The complexity of the cascade of events leading to new vessel formation from preexisting ones has challenged scientists in cell biology, biochemistry, physiology, pharmacology, molecular biology, developmental biology, and other fields. With their multidisciplinary approach and the powerful new techniques that have been developed, the progress in understanding angiogenesis has been impressive indeed. Only 12 years ago the mention of an angiogenic factor caused skepticism. Today we have the complete amino-acid fiequence and their genes cloned for at least 9 angiogenic factors. Many laboratories are studying their role in angiogenesis, and several biotechnology firms have a keen interest in commercial developments relative to these molecules. The role of extracellular matrix components in angiogenesis and the interaction of endothelial cells with other cell types such as pericytes, smooth muscle cells, and inflammatory cells have been studied by other groups. This rapid expansion is the result of a realization that in many disease states a common underlying pathology is a derangement in angiogenesis.
