Book excerpt: Steve Justa is the proverbial, ""White Buffalo,"" of the strength training world. He is known to be one of the strongest men in the world in the feats he performs, but several years ago, found himself in a career ending health situation. Like many strength athletes, Steve kept his body weight up in order to push the highest poundages possible. The weight became more than his system could tolerate and he found himself in the severe end of Type 2 Diabetes, with neuropathy and lost the use of his feet and legs. Given a grave diagnosis and heavy medication, Steve committed himself to reversing his situation. With his limited mobility he began training exclusively with the use of Isometrics. Today, Steve's diabetes is no longer medication dependent and controlled through exercise and diet. The symptoms of neuropathy have vanished. He lost the excess weight and now, at nearly 60, he is stronger than he's ever been lifting implements and totals he never before touched.

After an introduction, the book discusses the methods to extract and analyse different SMG signals, including muscle thickness, penetration angle, fascicle length, contraction activity, and muscle cross-sectional areas, etc. It then describes the mono-modal applications of sonomyography: posture recognition, prosthesis control, muscle training, muscle strength (fall risk assessment), fatigue assessment, and the assessment of dysfunctional muscles. The book also shows how to combine sonomyography with additional muscle assessment methods, in particular EMG, MMG, and motion sensors. Lastly, it provides an overview of the potential applications in sport science, rehabilitation, fitness, and elderly health.

Book Theory and Application of Modern Strength and Power Methods

Download or read book Theory and Application of Modern Strength and Power Methods written by Christian Thibaudeau and published by Createspace Independent Publishing Platform. This book was released on 2014-05 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This second book by Coach Thibaudeau focuses more on the science of strength as well as the various methods you can use to boost your strength and power. A great tool for athletes of all kinds! Also includes information on electromyostimulation, chains, bands, weight releasers and over 30 different training methods! This second book of mine (the first one being The Black Book of Training Secrets) is a gift to myself. I've wanted to write something specifically for athletes and strength coaches for a long time; put something out there that would revolutionize how high level athletes undertake their training. But I'm not utopic. I don't believe that this book will usher strength & power training into a new era. However, I'm sure that all of you will learn a lot of new training means, methods, and methodics from this book. What it will do is add a few tools to your coaching/athletic toolbox, allowing you to reach a new level of success in your training (or your athlete's).

Book excerpt: This volume describes the current state of our knowledge on the neurobiology of muscle fatigue, with consideration also given to selected integrative cardiorespiratory mechanisms. Our charge to the authors of the various chapters was twofold: to provide a systematic review of the topic that could serve as a balanced reference text for practicing health-care professionals, teaching faculty, and pre-and postdoctoral trainees in the biomedi cal sciences; and to stimulate further experimental and theoretical work on neurobiology. Key issues are addressed in nine interrelated areas: fatigue of single muscle fibers, fatigue at the neuromuscular junction, fatigue of single motor units, metabolic fatigue studied with nuclear magnetic resonance, fatigue of the segmental motor system, fatigue involving suprasegmental mechanisms, the task dependency of fatigue mechanisms, integrative (largely cardiorespiratory) systems issues, and fatigue of adapted systems (due to aging, under-and overuse, and pathophysiology). The product is a volume that provides compre of processes that operate from the forebrain to the contractile proteins.

Book Physiology of Strength

Download or read book Physiology of Strength written by Dr. Theodor Hettinger and published by Pickle Partners Publishing. This book was released on 2017-06-28 with total page 62 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: First published in 1961, “[T]his book is the result of ten years of research and experiment in the problems of muscle strength and muscle training at the Max-Planck-Institut für Arbeitsphysiologie, Dortmund, Germany supplemented by further work at the Lankenau Hospital, Division of Research, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. There is provided the present status of these problems, and there is demonstrated how muscle strength may be built and maintained with a minimum of time and effort. “The methods used are adaptable, with suitable modification, to children, to average young people, to athletes in training, to sedentary workers and older persons who wish to maintain bodily strength, and to those who have undergone surgery and need rehabilitation of the muscle structure—in short, to anyone who wishes to develop and maintain good muscle tone. “A strong and well-built body not only has pleasing appearance, it permits the undertaking of arduous physical activities or active sports without undue fatigue, and with real enjoyment. “It is the author’s hope that in this age of fast living and nervous tension, when there often seems neither time nor place for extensive exercise, this book will assist those who wish to maintain bodily strength and fitness—simply, at home, without elaborate equipment—on a do-it-yourself basis. It should prove of special benefit to teachers of physical education and rehabilitation.”—THEODOR HETTINGER, M.D.
