Book Sentence Adverbials in a Functional Description

This book was released on 1986-01-01 with total page 105 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The author presents empirical arguments in favor of a joint syntactico-semantic treatment, within the framework of a functional generative description, of a range of adverbial expressions which should be viewed as belonging to a single, lexically heterogeneous but functionally homogeneous, class exhibiting scoping properties and functioning as 'complementation of attitude' (CA). These CA-expressions do not only share their underlying functional properties but also certain surface-syntax properties.

Book Function and Class in Linguistic Description

Download or read book Function and Class in Linguistic Description written by Mário Alberto Perini and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2021-09-22 with total page 335 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book deals with the traditional problem of the classification of linguistic units, with a primary focus on word classes. The approach is descriptive rather than theoretical, and is based on the use of distinctive features analogous to the ones used in phonology, which entails a radical reworking of the traditional classification. The first part presents some basic notions such as the use of distinctive features and the role of word classes in grammar; classification by prototypes; and the use of world knowledge as a resource to assign thematic relations to constituents in the sentence. In the second part, some descriptive problems are examined, namely the classification of verbs according to valency; connectives, adverbs, and the internal constituents of the NP; and the classification of units larger than words. This book will be of use as a guide for linguists working on the description of natural languages, as well as a resource for students on courses in linguistic theory and description.

Book MIPS Pipeline Cryptoprocessor

Download or read book MIPS Pipeline Cryptoprocessor written by Kirat Pal Singh and published by LAP Lambert Academic Publishing. This book was released on 2012-11-01 with total page 482 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The design and implementation of a crypto processor based on Cryptographic algorithms can be used in wide range of electronic devices, include PCs, PDAs, hardware security modules, web servers etc. The growing problem of breaches in information security in recent years has created a demand for earnest efforts towards ensuring security in electronic processors. The successful deployment of these electronic processors for ecommerce, Internet banking, government online services, VPNs, mobile commerce etc., are dependent on the effectiveness of the security solutions. These security concerns are further compounded when resource-constrained environments and real-time speed requirements have to be considered in next generation applications. Consequently, these IT and Network security issues have been a subject of intensive research in areas of computing, networking and cryptography these last few years. Computational methodologies, computer arithmetic, and encryption algorithms need deep investigation and research to obtain efficient integrations of crypto-processors, with desirable improvements and optimizations. Approaches on silicon achieve high values of speed and bandwidth.

Book Generative Grammar

Download or read book Generative Grammar written by Geoffrey Horrocks and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2014-05-12 with total page 352 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book provides a critical review of the development of generative grammar, both transformational and non-transformational, from the early 1960s to the present, and presents contemporary results in the context of an overall evaluation of recent research in the field. Geoffrey Horrocks compares Chomsky's approach to the study of grammar, culminating in Government and Binding theory, with two other theories which are deliberate reactions to this framework: Generalised Phrase Structure Grammar and Lexical-Functional Grammar. Whilst proponents of all three models regard themselves as generative grammarians, and share many of the same objectives, the differences between them nevertheless account for much of the recent debate in this subject. By presenting these different theories in the context of the issues that unite and divide them, the book highlights the problems which arise in any attempt to establish an adequate theory of grammatical representation.
