Download or read book Number 6 Fumbles written by Rachel Solar-Tuttle and published by Simon and Schuster. This book was released on 2002-04-12 with total page 253 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this powerful novel, an accomplished young woman, suddenly seized by self-doubt, falls headfirst into a fervent exploration of the merits and pitfalls of being good. Rebecca Lowe is an upbeat coed, the one who gets straight A's, the one friends and teachers count on. But when she sees No. 6 fumble the football at the Penn-Cornell game, Beck begins to question what would happen if she "fumbled the ball" in her own life. Suddenly filled with uncertainty, she begins to devolve, indulging in a personal odyssey of hard drinking and casual hookups, staying out all night as she tries to find the real Rebecca. But somehow the truth keeps evading her. Gritty and passionate, Number 6 Fumbles is an irresistible story for anyone who has ever feared failure only slightly more than success.

Book Fumbled Call

Download or read book Fumbled Call written by David E. Sumner and published by McFarland. This book was released on 2018-03-14 with total page 233 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Atlanta insurance salesman George Burnett found himself at the center of a football scandal when he overheard a phone conversation between University of Georgia athletic director Wally Butts and University of Alabama football coach Paul "Bear" Bryant. Butts seemed to be giving Bryant play formations that would help Alabama defeat Georgia 35-0 in the 1962 season opener. When the Saturday Evening Post published Burnett's story months later, Butts and Bryant successfully sued the magazine for libel. The case went to the Supreme Court where it was upheld in a landmark 5-4 decision that expanded the legal definition of "public figures." Referencing more than 3,000 pages of letters, depositions and trial transcripts, the author reveals new information about this scandal and its resulting trial.

Book One Sports Fan Left Behind

Download or read book One Sports Fan Left Behind written by William D. Butler and published by AuthorHouse. This book was released on 2011-10 with total page 280 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Nearly everyone in America is interested in sports. However, many people are becoming disenchanted. Media coverage is dominated by scandalous stories involving many of America's best known figures in nearly all major sports. Fans have come to see professional athletes, in general, as being overpaid, immature and obnoxious. Ticket prices have become outrageously exorbitant. Many fans feel that they have been betrayed by something that they once held so dear. One Fan Left Behind, written by a typical, longtime sports fan, speaks to and for those fans. Some of the issues addressed are controversial and may serve as catalysts for further thought. Many dubious things about sports are blithely taken for granted. For instance, did you ever wonder why it is that if a basketball player is fouled in the act of shooting 25 feet from the basket, (a shot which he was probably going to miss anyway) he gets to move ten feet closer to the hoop to shoot three free throws? But if he is fouled in the act of shooting a lay up, (a shot which he rarely misses) he has to move several feet further from the basket to shoot only two free throws. One Fan Left Behind is written in a style which is lighthearted, entertaining and at times, tongue-in-cheek. Portions could be used as a stand-up comedy routine. Other segments can be described as nostalgic, poignant and/or deadly serious. The topic is singularly timely. So many things happen every day that it was difficult for the author to finish writing this book. He had to simply drop the pencil and stop writing. The story is still unfolding.

Book excerpt: Our universe is not alone. We have a sister universe. 13.7 billion years ago the Big Bang spawned two identical universes. Both universes occupied the same ‘space’ but they were held apart by a tiny time differential, making them entirely invisible and unknown to each other - until our universe reached the beginning of the 22nd century. The two universes exactly mirrored each other in every detail, atom for atom, blade of grass for blade of grass, person for person, thought for thought - every detail except that tiny time differential. Tiny though that time differential was, over the course of 13.7 billion years it had gradually accumulated until it had exceeded 2,000 years, with our sister Earth being our Earth’s younger sibling. It still precisely mirrored every detail of our Earth, but as our Earth was over 2,000 years ago. Meanwhile, that gradually accumulated time differential also meant that our universe had expanded for 2,000 years longer that the younger universe, which meant that the two Earths had drifted three light years apart in their separate spheres of space-time. This is the story of what happened when scientists on our planet Earth discovered the existence of our sister universe and the means to ‘hop’ between the two universes .... and the carnage that ensued when a small group of mostly well-meaning scientists decided to pay our sister Earth a visit.

Book Inspiring the Youth of America

Download or read book Inspiring the Youth of America written by J. Alex Ficarra and published by AuthorHouse. This book was released on 2018-10-31 with total page 738 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Here at Remington, many people are curious about this powerful book commonly known as Inspiring the Youth of America. Well, as you may know, our youth today in America are in dire need of mentorship and guidance. This book is a whole new step forward for all of us as a civilization. For many years, and even today, young Americans wander aimlessly in a pool of confusion. They end up in meaningless careers with no past, no future, and nothing to hope for. Undoubtedly, the end result is misery and despair. The end result is poverty and surely a feeling of emptiness. Well, we at Remington, after interviewing over thirty thousand professionals, were surprised to find that many successful professionals were disgusted with vanity publications. They were disappointed with the meaningless dribble of a phone book–type registry that possibly required a magnifying glass just to read. But surprisingly enough, these professionals encouraged any use of their biography for humanitarian purposes. Undoubtedly, mentorship for our youth fell into that category. So there it was born. Our proudest moment as publishers was laid out before us. But there was one big problem. All these people needed to be interviewed in depth, and generic biographies certainly would not inspire. So with that, we swallowed hard, and our staff got to work. Yes, it was and still is a grueling, time-consuming mission and undertaking. But in the end, as you may witness as you read this book, the content is quite spectacular and certainly worth the effort. We would also like to mention that the participants in this book also spent much time sending us information and encouraging us to make this book worthy of their efforts. Now it was up to us to uphold the dignity of these professionals and forge forward into a future where students can explore their lives with the ability to fulfill their own potentials. With that, this book is presented to you today, and we hope that you share in our dream to build a better America from where it really matters—our youth.
