Book Effect of Transverse Convex Surface Curvature on Turbulent Fluid Flow and Heat Transfer in Concentric Annuli with Moving Cores

Download or read book Effect of Transverse Convex Surface Curvature on Turbulent Fluid Flow and Heat Transfer in Concentric Annuli with Moving Cores written by Sang Hun Lee and published by . This book was released on 2001 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This study investigates the effect of Transverse Convex Surface Curvature of the inner core (T.C.S.C) on the fully developed fluid flows in a concentric annulus with a moving core, by analytically predicting friction forces, velocity profiles, temperature profiles and heat transfer in terms of convex surface curvature, radius ratio, Prandtl number, Reynolds number and relative velocity. The analytical predictions are produced by a mathematical model based on the variable von Karman constant, kappai, proposed by Kim and Lee [1] and the variable van Driest damping parameter, Ai+, proposed in previous research by Suk [2]. The computer program developed for this study employs a numerical process to match velocity and temperature profiles with force and energy balances and calculates the desired momentum and thermal characteristics. The solutions are found in the case of the heat transfer where the inner core surface is uniformly heated and the outer insulated. It is assumed that the fluid flow is turbulent everywhere and the thermodynamic fluid properties are independent of temperature. It is concluded that in the fully developed turbulent flow in a concentric annulus with a moving core, the effects of Transverse Convex Surface Curvature (T.C.S.C), core velocity and turbulent motion on the momentum and heat transfer characteristics of the flow seem significant.

Book Progress in Wall Turbulence 2

Download or read book Progress in Wall Turbulence 2 written by Michel Stanislas and published by Springer. This book was released on 2015-08-17 with total page 430 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is the proceedings of the ERCOFTAC Workshop on Progress in Wall Turbulence: Understanding and Modelling, that was held in Lille, France from June 18 to 20, 2014. The workshop brought together world specialists of near wall turbulence and stimulated exchanges between them around up-to-date theories, experiments, simulations and numerical models. This book contains a coherent collection of recent results on near wall turbulence including theory, new experiments, DNS and modeling with RANS, LES. The fact that both physical understanding and modeling by different approaches are addressed by the best specialists in a single workshop is original.

Book Turbulent Shear Flows I

Download or read book Turbulent Shear Flows I written by F. Durst and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 415 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The present book contains papers that have been selected from contributions to the First International Symposium on Turbulent Shear Flows which was held from the 18th to 20th April 1977 at The Pennsylvania State University, University Park, Pennsylvania, USA. Attend ees from close to 20 countries presented over 100 contributions at this meeting in which many aspects of the current activities in turbulence research were covered. Five topics received particular attention at the Symposium: Free Flows Wall Flows Recirculating Flows Developments in Reynolds Stress Closures New Directions in Modeling This is also reflected in the five chapters of this book with contributions from research workers from different countries. Each chapter covers the most valuable contributions of the conference to the particular chapter topic. Of course, there were many additional good con tributions to each subject at the meeting but the limitation imposed on the length of this volume required that a selection be made. The realization of the First International Symposium on Turbulent Shear Flows was p- sible by the general support of: U. S. Army Research Office U. S. Navy Research Office Continuing Education Center of The Pennsylvania State University The conference organization was carried out by the organizing committee consisting of: F. Durst, Universitat Karlsruhe, Karlsruhe, Fed. Rep. of Germany V. W. Goldschmidt, Purdue University, West Lafayette, Ind. , USA B. E. Launder, University of California, Davis, Calif. , USA F. W. Schmidt, Pennsylvania State University, University Park, Penna.

Book Laminar Flow Forced Convection in Ducts

Download or read book Laminar Flow Forced Convection in Ducts written by R. K. Shah and published by Academic Press. This book was released on 2014-06-28 with total page 492 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Laminar Flow Forced Convection in Ducts is a sourcebook for compact heat exchanger analytical data. This book describes the analytical solutions for laminar fluid flow and forced convection heat transfer in circular and noncircular pipes, including applicable differential equations and boundary conditions involving velocity and temperature problems of fluid flow. The book also discusses fluid flow—how much power is required to pump fluids through the heat exchanger, as well as the heat transfer—the determination of q" distribution, and the temperature of fluid and walls. The text also analyzes the coolant or heat transfer fluid flows in a nuclear power reactor composed of a bundle of circular section fuel rods located inside a round tube. R.A. Axford addresses fluid flow and heat transfers results for the rod bundle geometry in "Heat Transfer in Rod Bundles." The book also provides an overview and guidelines that can be used for the designer and the applied mathematician. This book is suitable for engineers working in electronics, aerospace, instrumentation, and biomechanics that use cooling or heating exchanges or solar collection systems.
