Book excerpt: New York Times bestselling author Carl Weber has tantalized us with his provocative and sexy plus size characters in Something on the Side, Big Girls Do Cry and Torn Between Two Lovers. Now Weber has taken on the role of not just writer but mentor and editor with his highly successful Full Figured series. In this installment, Weber pens his own story, bringing back a familiar and well-liked character, the voluptuous bad girl Coco Brown, who is once again looking for love in all the wrong places. Urban Books author Ms. Michel Moore introduces us to Tami, another plus-size bad girl, in “This Can’t Be Life.” Often judged by her weight and not the size of her heart, Tami wants the same type of devoted love her younger, but much smaller in size, sister Tori has with her spouse. Unfortunately, it doesn’t seem meant to be, until a “mysterious” accident brings her and her brother-in-law closer than ever. While Tori fights to live, Tami fights for the newfound love of her life—her sister’s husband.

Book Epistemics of the Virtual

Download or read book Epistemics of the Virtual written by Johan F. Hoorn and published by John Benjamins Publishing. This book was released on 2012-01-01 with total page 242 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Proposing a new theory of fiction, this work reviews the confusion about perceived realism, metaphor, virtual worlds and the seemingly obvious distinction between what is true and what is false. The rise of new media, new technology, and creative products and services requires a new examination of what 'real' friends are, to what extent scientific novelty is 'true', and whether online content is merely 'figurative'. In this transdisciplinary theory the author evaluates cognitive theories, philosophical discussion, and topics in biology and physics, and places these in the frameworks of computer science and literary theory. The interest of the reader is continuously challenged on matters of truth, fiction, and the shakiness of their belief systems.

She’s content with her weight and has no issues with her outside appearance. It’s the inside she’s at war with. Her mind is her biggest enemy and emotions her personal bully. Draya’s only place of refuge, where her depression is silenced, lies in the world of camming, where virtual viewers cheer on and instruct her sexual activities. This is her life: artist by day and cam girl by night, until her heart betrays her and seeks interest in a man it won’t let go of. Draya’s inner self is finally evolving and learning life is not all black shadows. Now that she’s learned this lesson, can her new lover accept all she comes with, camming and all? Red Flags by Niko Michelle: We all have a little love-induced crazy in us. So, it’s no surprise Redarra Michaels’ crazy is exposed when she catches the love of her life, popular college football standout Taylor Lawrence, in a prone position off the field. Redarra was warned—fluffy girls like her could never get and keep a guy like Taylor. All the flags were there, but big girls deserve love too, so she thought those flags couldn’t have been waving at her. Well, they were, which causes Redarra to lose touch with reality temporarily. Book Fashioning Fat

Download or read book Fashioning Fat written by Amanda M. Czerniawski and published by NYU Press. This book was released on 2015-01-30 with total page 216 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: For two and a half years, Amanda Czerniawski was a sociologist turned plus-size model. Journeying into a world where, as a size 10, she was not considered an average body type, but rather, for the fashion industry, “plus-sized,” Czerniawski studied the standards of work and image production in the plus-sized model industry. Fashioning Fat takes us through a model’s day-to-day activities, first at open calls at modeling agencies and then through the fashion shows and photo shoots. Czerniawski also interviewed 35 plus-size models about their lives in the world of fashion, bringing to life the strange contradictions of being an object of non-idealized beauty. Fashioning Fat shows us that the mission of many of these models is to challenge our standards of beauty that privilege the thin body; they show us that fat can be sexy. Many plus-size models do often succeed in overcoming years of self-loathing and shame over their bodies, yet, as Czerniawski shows, these women are not the ones in charge of beauty’s construction or dissemination. At the corporate level, the fashion industry perpetuates their objectification. Plus-size models must conform to an image created by fashion’s tastemakers, as their bodies must fit within narrowly defined parameters of size and shape—an experience not too different from that of straight-sized models. Ultimately, plus-size models find that they are still molding their bodies to fit an image instead of molding an image of beauty to fit their bodies. A much-needed behind-the-scenes look at this growing industry, Fashioning Fat is a fascinating, unique, and important contribution to our understanding of beauty.
