Book Handbook of Principles of Organizational Behavior

Download or read book Handbook of Principles of Organizational Behavior written by Edwin Locke and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2011-07-15 with total page 694 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: There is a strong movement today in management to encourage management practices based on research evidence. In the first volume of this handbook, I asked experts in 39 areas of management to identify a central principle that summarized and integrated the core findings from their specialty area and then to explain this principle and give real business examples of the principle in action. I asked them to write in non-technical terms, e.g., without a lot of statistics, and almost all did so. The previous handbook proved to be quite popular, so I was asked to edit a second edition. This new edition has been expanded to 33 topics, and there are some new authors for the previously included topics. The new edition also includes: updated case examples, updated references and practical exercises at the end of each chapter. It also includes a preface on evidence-based management. The principles for the first edition were intended to be relatively timeless, so it is no surprise that most of the principles are the same (though some chapter titles include more than one principle). This book could serve as a textbook in advanced undergraduate and in MBA courses. It could also be of use to practicing managers and not just those in Human Resource departments. Every practicing manager may not want to read the whole book, but I am willing to guarantee that every one will find at least one or more chapters that will be practically useful. In this time of economic crisis, the need for effective management practices is more acute than ever.

Book Leading from the Second Chair

Download or read book Leading from the Second Chair written by Mike Bonem and published by Fortress Press. This book was released on 2020-11-03 with total page 192 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: They say it's lonely at the top. And it can be even lonelier when you are almost at the top. Church leaders who hold second-chair positions are under tremendous pressure. They are expected to do their jobs and provide leadership but to defer to the top leader too. It's a demanding balancing act. How can they lead effectively while serving under someone else's leadership? Leading from the Second Chair offers an invaluable resource to leaders who serve in second- (and third- and fourth-) chair roles, enabling them to become more productive, proactive, and fulfilled. The book reveals the paradoxes of second chair leadership. These leaders must be subordinate to the top leader yet lead in their own right. They should be deep in their expertise but wide in perspective. And they must be content in their jobs yet remain enthusiastic about their dreams for the future. Mike Bonem and Roger Patterson share their own and others' experiences of failure and success in this vital role. They offer support and practical advice for reshaping the way second-chair leaders can serve well and improve the overall performance of their church or organization. Leading from the Second Chair equips readers with the positive attitudes, skills, and strategies needed to become powerful leaders who will survive and thrive in God's service.

Book excerpt: As human beings, we will inevitably come to a point in life when we ask ourselves who am I, why was I born, and what is my purpose. The answers to these profound questions are found in God. God gives us specific gifts and talents to be used for His ultimate glory. It is through doing the will of God that we find true happiness, peace, and meaning. In Kingdom Leadership: Leading God's Way To Fulfill Purpose, you will discover the reasons for your gifts and talents, and what they are to be used for. God created you for His purpose. His purpose created you. And when you find your purpose, you find the God who created you.An unrevealed purpose leads humanity to chase fleeting and temporal pleasures as a substitute for God's intentions and revealed plans. No amount of worldly consumption and praise can give peace or eradicate humankind's innate drive towards God, its creator. The world is filled with brokenness and too many unrealized dreams. Nations are consumed with war and rumors of war. Too many individuals are burdened with excessive poverty and disease. Racial and ethnic conflicts polarize societies. Still, others are trapped by unconstrained moral conflicts, various forms of addiction, consumerism, power grabs, and religious strife. All of these things above are futile attempts at gaining a relationship, purpose, and meaning from life. They are a result of humanity, not knowing God and God's purpose for their lives. For people to find peace, purpose, and fulfillment in life, it must come through communing with God and living according to God's Word, rules, and principles. God seeks to be reconciled with what He created. God is always available to His creation if sought. It is one's pursuit and obedience to God's will after many meaningless activities and disappointments that will reestablish one to their original and intended purpose.

Book Animal Farm Prophecy Fulfilled in Africa

Download or read book Animal Farm Prophecy Fulfilled in Africa written by Chiku Malunga and published by University Press of America. This book was released on 2014-09-08 with total page 146 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Animal Farm Prophecy Fulfilled in Africa: A Call to a Values and Systems Revolution discusses why deep levels of poverty and suffering persist in Africa despite all the successive regime changes over the last half century. It discusses why more people are poorer now than they were in the colonial era. The author argues that this is so because most of the leadership change efforts on the continent focus on replacing individuals rather than changing or overhauling the negative systems and the values inherent in the systems that the individual leaders inherit, create or perpetuate. The problems persist because they are systemic rather than personal in nature. Deep and lasting change that could result in lifting millions of people out of poverty will only occur when the systems, rather than only the individuals, are changed or replaced. The author challenges ordinary citizens, especially the youth, to rise up against ‘animal farm systems’ in order to create the tomorrow to which they aspire and deserve.

Download or read book Leadership on the Line With a New Preface written by Ronald Heifetz and published by Harvard Business Press. This book was released on 2017-06-20 with total page 288 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The dangerous work of leading change--somebody has to do it. Will you put yourself on the line? To lead is to live dangerously. It's romantic and exciting to think of leadership as all inspiration, decisive action, and rich rewards, but leading requires taking risks that can jeopardize your career and your personal life. It requires putting yourself on the line, disrupting the status quo, and surfacing hidden conflict. And when people resist and push back, there's a strong temptation to play it safe. Those who choose to lead plunge in, take the risks, and sometimes get burned. But it doesn't have to be that way say renowned leadership experts Ronald Heifetz and Marty Linsky. In Leadership on the Line, they show how it's possible to make a difference without getting "taken out" or pushed aside. They present everyday tools that give equal weight to the dangerous work of leading change and the critical importance of personal survival. Through vivid stories from all walks of life, the authors present straightforward strategies for navigating the perilous straits of leadership. Whether you're a parent or a politician, a CEO or a community activist, this practical book shows how you can exercise leadership and survive and thrive to enjoy the fruits of your labor.

Book Leadership Without Easy Answers

Download or read book Leadership Without Easy Answers written by Ronald A. Heifetz and published by Harvard University Press. This book was released on 2009-07-01 with total page 361 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The economy uncertain, education in decline, cities under siege, crime and poverty spiraling upward, international relations roiling: we look to leaders for solutions, and when they don’t deliver, we simply add their failure to our list of woes. In doing do, we do them and ourselves a grave disservice. We are indeed facing an unprecedented crisis of leadership, Ronald Heifetz avows, but it stems as much from our demands and expectations as from any leader’s inability to meet them. His book gets at both of these problems, offering a practical approach to leadership for those who lead as well as those who look to them for answers. Fitting the theory and practice of leadership to our extraordinary times, the book promotes a new social contract, a revitalization of our civic life just when we most need it. Drawing on a dozen years of research among managers, officers, and politicians in the public realm and the private sector, among the nonprofits, and in teaching, Heifetz presents clear, concrete prescriptions for anyone who needs to take the lead in almost any situation, under almost any organizational conditions, no matter who is in charge, His strategy applies not only to people at the top but also to those who must lead without authority—activists as well as presidents, managers as well as workers on the front line.

Book excerpt: This is a story of a woman who tries to run away from the struggles of abuse to a life that she thought would be a better life, to life that she thought would be a less painful life than that she had been living as an abused wife and a mother of three kids. As she ran away and began her life all over again only to struggle even harder to survive, and only to have so many doors that seemed to be closed in her face and still look forward and reach out her hand to anyone who needed it and doing it with three girls and no help. And it seems as if though she finally places the pieces of her life together as best as she could and then she dies and leaves three girls behind that would soon know what her struggle was about as they had seen some of her life through their on eyes and they had some of the same doors shut in there face as she had shut in hers, and they learn some of the pains that she had been through as a person and anything that they didn't understand anything that they couldn't see when she stood there in front of them, anything that they didn't realize, they now would understand as they watch some her life unfold in their own lives, not placing there selves any higher than any one else in her life but knowing and understanding and saying "mother we see".
