Book Frontiers in Water Resource Economics

Download or read book Frontiers in Water Resource Economics written by Renan-Ulrich Goetz and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2006-03-09 with total page 289 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Most of the books published previously in the field of water resource eco nomics focus on particular aspects of water economics such as institutions, pricing or water markets, but none of them have given particular attention to methodological questions. However, the applied methodology within economic research has made some remarkable advances over the last 10-20 years. Some of these advances are of particular interest to the field of water economics. Therefore, we think that a book that focusing on methodological advances within the field of water resource economics and showing how these advances can be applied in economic analysis of water issues makes a nice complement to the existing literature in this field. We identified five areas where we consider the methodological advances to be of particular importance: 1) asymmetric information and game theory, 2) un certainty, 3) space, 4) water quality and 5) production and technology adoption. The selected papers for the book fall entirely within these categories. The book ''Frontiers in Water Resource Economics" draws to a great extent on papers which were presented at the 7^^ Conference of the International Water and Re source Economics Consortium, June 3-5,2001 held in Girona, Catalonia, Spain, This conference was jointly organized with the 4^^ Conference of Environmen tal and Resource Economics by the Department of Economics, University of Girona.

Book excerpt: The application of information and communications technologies in order to address the crucial problems of the efficient use of water falls under the domain of hydroinformatics. It uses techniques such as artificial neural networks, support vector machines and genetic programming. It primarily integrates the concepts of hydraulics, hydrology and environmental engineering. Hydroinformatics lays emphasis on the social nature of the problems related to water management and associated decision-making processes. The social processes by which technologies are brought into use are also analyzed in this domain. This book covers in detail some existent theories and innovative concepts revolving around hydroinformatics. Different approaches, evaluations, methodologies and advanced studies have been included herein. The extensive content of this book provides the readers with a thorough understanding of the subject.

This book was released on 2006 with total page 190 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A milestone capturing the state of the art in hydrological science at the beginning of the 21st century, a chart for hydrologists exploring the new frontiers in hydrology, and a guide for those involved with developing and implementing water policies. It considers the capability that hydrological sciences will and should have by 2020, and what needs doing now in order to achieve this. There is an emphasis on societal issues and interdisciplinary work pertinent to hydrology as hydrologists cannot work in isolation from society.

Book Water Law and Policy Governance Without Frontiers

Download or read book Water Law and Policy Governance Without Frontiers written by Dr Elli Louka and published by Oxford University Press. This book was released on 2008-09-24 with total page 462 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Water Law and Policy examines water management in Europe, and the difficulties and policy dilemmas involved in creating integrated water management institutions. This is the only overall assessment of the development and evolution of European Water Law and Policy. The book is unique in that it concentrates on institutional development, norms and guiding principles, implementation strategies, and public participation mechanisms at the local level, EU level, and globally. Water is one of the most mismanaged natural resources. Failed water management policies and fragmented water management institutions can have catastrophic results, including both flooding and water scarcity. Dr. Elli Louka's book provides insights that can guide water development policies across national borders. It is a must-read for policymakers, water managers, and students who need to understand national and transnational water management.

Book Opportunities in the Hydrologic Sciences

Download or read book Opportunities in the Hydrologic Sciences written by National Research Council and published by National Academies Press. This book was released on 1991-01-01 with total page 367 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Hydrologyâ€"the science of waterâ€"is central to our understanding of the global environment and its many problems. Opportunities in the Hydrologic Sciences explains how the science of water historically has played second fiddle to its applications and how we now must turn to the hydrologic sciences to solve some of the emerging problems. This first book of its kind presents a blueprint for establishing hydrologic science among the geosciences. Informative and well-illustrated chapters explore what we know about the forces that drive the global water system, highlighting promising research topics in hydrology's major subfields. The book offers specific recommendations for improving hydrologic education, from kindergarten through graduate school. In addition, a chapter on the basics of the science is interesting for the scientist and understandable to the lay reader. This readable volume is enhanced by a series of brief biographical sketches of past leaders in the field and fascinating vignettes on important applied problems, from the relevance of hydrology to radioactive waste disposal to the study of ancient water flows on Mars. The volume concludes with a report on current research funding and an outline of strategies for scientists and professional societies to advance the field. Opportunities in the Hydrologic Sciences is indispensable to policymakers in science and education, research managers in geoscience programs, researchers, educators, graduate students, and future hydrologists.

Book Frontiers in Geofluids

  • Author : Bruce W. D. Yardley
  • Publisher : John Wiley & Sons
  • Release : 2011-03-10
  • ISBN : 1444394894
  • Pages : 639 pages

Download or read book Frontiers in Geofluids written by Bruce W. D. Yardley and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2011-03-10 with total page 639 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Frontiers in Geofluids is a collection of invited papers chosen to highlight recent developments in our understanding of geological fluids in different parts of the Earth, and published to mark the first ten years of publication of the journal Geofluids. The scope of the volume ranges from the fundamental properties of fluids and the phase relationships of fluids encountered in nature, to case studies of the role of fluids in natural processes. New developments in analytical and theoretical approaches to understanding fluid compositions, fluid properties, and geological fluid dynamics across a wide range of environments are included. A recurrent theme of research published in Geofluids is the way in which similar approaches can be applied to geological fluids in very different settings and this is reflected in the diverse range of applications of fluid studies that are included here. They include deep groundwater flow, hydrocarbons in faulted sedimentary basins, hydrothermal ores, and multiphase flow in mid-ocean ridge systems. Other topics covered are geothermal waters, crustal metamorphism, and fluids in magmatic systems. The book will be of great interest to researchers and students interested in crustal and mantle fluids of all sorts.
