Book New Frontiers in Critical Care

Download or read book New Frontiers in Critical Care written by Anderson Murphy and published by Hayle Medical. This book was released on 2019-06-26 with total page 255 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Critical care medicine is a branch of medicine that is concerned with the diagnosis and management of critical health issues, which may require advanced life support and dedicated monitoring. The ultimate goal of life support is to sustain life, while the underlying diseases or injury is being evaluated or treated. Some of the diverse therapies and techniques involved in the care of patients in intensive care are mechanical ventilation, defibrillation, cardiopulmonary resuscitation, dialysis, total parenteral nutrition, etc. The care of premature or ill newborn infants is undertaken in a neonatal intensive care unit. Administration of high-risk medications and antibiotics, management of infants requiring ventilator support, surgical care and resuscitation, etc. are crucial to neonatal critical care. There are psychiatric intensive care units in psychiatric wards. These are designed to care for patients who pose a degree of risk to themselves or others. Patients are cared for in such units until their mental state is stable. Critical care is an upcoming field of medicine that has undergone rapid development over the past few decades. This book aims to shed light on some of the unexplored aspects of critical care and the recent researches in this field. It will help new researchers by foregrounding their knowledge in this field.

Book Advances In ME CFS Research and Clinical Care

Download or read book Advances In ME CFS Research and Clinical Care written by Kenneth J. Friedman and published by Frontiers Media SA. This book was released on 2019-11-25 with total page 266 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In 2015, the Institute of Medicine (USA) issued a report critical of the research effort and clinical care for ME/CFS (Myalgic Encephalomyelitis/Chronic Fatigue Syndrome) formerly known as Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (CFS) and Chronic Fatigue Immune Deficiency Syndrome (CFIDS). While worldwide investigation into the cause and nature of ME/CFS remains disproportionately small, and treatment remains symptomatic and controversial, modest research continues in all aspects of this disease: epidemiology, possible infectious origins and other triggers, possible involvement of genetics, metabolism, and microbiome, influence of co-morbid conditions, and more. Treatment of patients consists of providing symptomatic relief. Guidance in doing so is provided for the clinician. School-age children require not only treatment but, as revealed in a 25-year retrospective study, continued engagement with peers and social activity. This e-book explores the breadth and depth of current ME/CFS research and clinical care. Its impact for other chronic, complex illnesses should not be overlooked.

Book Critical Care Nursing in Resource Limited Environments

Download or read book Critical Care Nursing in Resource Limited Environments written by Chris Carter and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2019-06-05 with total page 348 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: All hospitals have critically ill patients, and their management depends upon the resources available. In many low income countries, critically ill patients may be admitted to a critical care unit; however, many are nursed on wards due to a lack of critical care beds or simply die before they reach the hospital. This book provides guidance on the unique situations for nurses working in these challenging environments, while considering ethical decision-making, providing appropriate services, and the types of patients admitted. Topics covered include: working in a resource limited environment; cultural awareness and international agendas; provision and access to healthcare services; ethical considerations in the context of resource limited environments; best practice and knowledge regarding rehabilitation, pain management, managing a major incident; relevant research concerning resource limited environments. Critical Care Nursing in Resource Limited Environments prepares readers to consider how best to utilise their skills and deliver safe patient care within a resource limited context. Each easy-to-read chapter provides core knowledge and relevant research, as well as useful ideas and solutions, with further reading sections to signpost readers to key international resources. This text provides practical ideas for nurses working in critical care and defence nursing, and acute areas in resource limited environments. It can also be used to support educational courses and pre-deployment training for nurses hoping to work in Global Health.
