Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Seymour Rose is an African American man who is gay. He was born to a father who is Catholic and accepts his son unconditionally and a mother who is born Methodist and is homophobicbut most of all, she tells her son throughout his life that she never wanted to have him. Seymour reflects on three generations of his family history and often tells family stories to make sense of his years of emotional insecurity and feelings of being unloved and unwanted. His mother is Estelle. She is a strong African American woman whose mother died when she was ten years old. Her father forced her to be surrogate wife and mother to her younger sister and brother. When the Great Depression of the late 1920s occurred and wiped out the familys finances, they were forced into a life of destitution. Never having enough money, she lived and dreamed of growing up and having a job and money of her own. Her dream of having a job was put on hold when she learns she is pregnant. She married and, within a year of the first child, she gives birth to a second child. She is angry with herself because she wanted to go to work before having children. Just as soon as she gets the first two children in grade school and she can live her dream of having a job, she learns she is pregnant again. This child is Seymour, and she repeatedly tells him in her disgust and frustration, Child, God wanted you here, boybecause I never wanted to have you! Seymours reaction to his mothers persistent comments was to cling closer to his mother with hopes that, one day, she would tell him she loved him and wanted him. When he informs his mother that he is gay, this compounds her distaste for this child. At the end of her life, Estelle reveals to Seymour her years of malcontent with her son, and he comes to terms with his mother and his family history. This book is fictitious but based on a true story.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book introduces the work of an important medieval Islamic philosopher who is little known outside the Persian world. Afdal al-Din Kashani was a contemporary of a number of important Muslim thinkers, including Averroes and Ibn al-Arabi. Kashani did not write for advanced students of philosophy but rather for beginners. In the main body of his work, he offers especially clear and insightful expositions of various philosophical positions, making him an invaluable resource for those who would like to learn the basic principles and arguments of this philosophical tradition but do not have a strong background in philosophy. Here, Chittick uses Kashani and his work to introduce the basic issues and arguments of Islamic philosophy to modern readers.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This series is entitled: Prominent Peaks of the Pilgrimage. Divided into two books, this twenty-lesson course traces the journey of the people of Israel, from out of the land of Egypt, into the land of Canaan. We will visit the people of Israel at the prominent peaks of their pilgrimage. Our main texts will come from the bible books of Exodus, Numbers, Deuteronomy, and Joshua. We shall see that the events that befell the children of Israel at the mountain sites are the very things that we have to expect on our pilgrimage. The lessons that the people of Israel had to learn are the very same lessons that our loving Lord would have us learn also. So, it behooves us to take a close look at the Lord's people and their pilgrimage, so that we can be better fit for our pilgrimage, for there are many pitfalls, dangers, and perils. Another major purpose of this course is to look at different aspects of the doctrine of salvation. Every keyword in this course brings out a new revelation concerning biblical salvation. Biblical salvation covers more than just the regeneration of the human spirit. Many struggles in the lives of Christians can be traced to unfamiliarity with the doctrine of salvation. If we do not see all that the Lord has done in salvation, then we will have unnecessary struggles. The doctrine of salvation permeates this entire course. We will turn salvation over and look at the subject in all its fullness. God is only interested in complete salvation. God is interested in salvation that delivers the sinful man: spirit, soul, and body; past, present, and future; penalty, power, and presence. That is what God's business is: complete salvation. These two books containing twenty chapters/lessons can be read privately, or they can be taught in an audience setting. Reader’s Feedback “An absolutely powerful bible course to transform willing hearts. Each lesson is packed with life-transforming principles. He tells the fascinating story of money, the key factors that shaped its development, and the lessons that can be learned from its history. Download or read book A Dictionary of English Normative Grammar 1700 1800 DENG written by Bertil Sundby and published by John Benjamins Publishing. This book was released on 1991-01-01 with total page 498 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Eighteenth-century English grammarians plead eloquently for purity, precision and perspicuity, but their method of teaching largely amounts to citing examples of impurity, imprecision and lack of clarity from contemporary writings. This book is the first of its kind to provide a detailed systematic account of such 'errors'. Apart from source and page references, the Dictionary gives the context of the error (I have not wept this forty years), the correct or 'target' form ('these forty years'), the name of the authors quoted by the grammarians ('Addison', 'Swift'), and the labels which sum up their assessment of the error ('absurd', 'solecism'). It operates with error categories such as ambiguity, ellipsis and government (fourteen in all), which are subdivided into grammatically described main entries, subentries, and so on. The Introduction includes a guide to the use of the Dictionary, the grammatical code, and a discussion of grammatical concepts, error typologies, problems of identifying literary sources, attitudes to correctness, grammatical figures, and other topics. A Bibliography and an Index of lexical items and technical terms round off the volume. The way the Dictionary is organized should make it possible to find in it the answer to a wide variety of questions pertaining to grammar, style and linguistic historiography.

Book excerpt: This book is open access under a CC BY-NC-ND 4.0 license. This book presents the concept of value as the central component to success and longevity of the global ICT industry player, Huawei. It provides examples of how Huawei focuses on customers to pursue sustainable and profitable growth rather than focusing on capital market valuation which is a familiar scenario among Western companies. It is the business departments that are the creators of value for Huawei, while the finance department is tasked to provide support and services to those business departments during the value creation process. The book illustrates how Huawei Finance sets rules, allocates resources, and builds centers of expertise all over the world to address future uncertainties. More than a decade ago Huawei dedicated seven years to implement the Integrated Financial Services (IFS) Transformation Program with the help of IBM consultants. This book also draws on the leading concepts and successful experience of the IFS Transformation Program. Huawei Finance adopts three types of centralized vertical management from the top down: treasury, accounting, and auditing. It does not transfer such central authority down to lower levels, but delegates all other authority to business organizations across all levels. This management model represents the focus of this book. Built on Value provides an overview of Huawei's finance management and will help academic researchers in Business/Management, as well as practitioners in industry, an accurate and in-depth understanding of Huawei as a company.
