Download or read book Preaching to a Divided Nation written by Matthew D. Kim and published by Baker Books. This book was released on 2022-08-09 with total page 178 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: We live in angry times. No matter where we go, what we watch, or how we communicate, our culture is rife with division and polarization. Unfortunately, Christians appear to be caught up in the same animosity as the culture at large. While our faith calls us to Christian unity, the hard fact remains: our churches are tragically divided across class, ethnic, gender, and political lines. As these social chasms grow--both inside and outside the church--the role of the preacher becomes paramount. This book issues a prophetic call to pastors to use the influence of their pulpits to promote reconciliation and unity in their churches and communities. Two scholar-practitioners who are experts in homiletics and reconciliation present a practical, 7-step model that empowers faithful leaders to bring healing and peace to their fractured churches and world. The book includes questions for reflection, salient illustrations, and an accountability covenant. It also includes useful appendixes on preaching themes, preaching texts, and sample sermons from three leading preachers: Ralph Douglas West, Rich Villodas, and Sandra Maria Van Opstal.
Download or read book From the Heart of a Pastor J Alfred Smith Sr written by Martha C. Taylor and published by WestBow Press. This book was released on 2020-03-10 with total page 336 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book captures over three decades of Dr. Smith Sr’s prayers, pastor pens and sermon outlines. First, he demonstrates that the Bible is a lasting and sure foundation for powerful preaching. Secondly, Pastor Smith demonstrates that relevant preaching does not seek to hide God in techniques of popularity and hunger for quick success. Thirdly, Dr. Smith Sr., demonstrates that we cannot lead people to God with godless preaching and teaching. A commitment to the Gospel of Jesus Christ does not require us to despise, demean and disrespect other faith traditions. When Jesus healed he did not ask for birth certificates, nationality oaths ethnic or racial loyalty oaths. Jesus is an inclusive Redeemer and Liberator. This book is a must read for pastors, professors, parents, students and others who desire to grow in the knowledge of preaching, praying and applying God’s words to the deeper human rights struggle. The section on prayers reflect petitions to God for varying occasions; congregational prayers, public events, church anniversaries baby dedications, bereavements, sickness, intercessory prayers, weddings, funerals and a host of others. Using ordinary words, they reflect sincerity, simplicity and selflessness. Lastly, in the tradition of keeping in touch with the congregation, the Pastor Pen is a weekly bulletin Sunday writing that varies from current events, biblical subjects, and others challenges the church may be experiencing including financial appeals and a reminder that giving is a part of worshiping.
Download or read book The Sword of the Lord Musings of a Country Preacher Volume One written by Robert Coward and published by Lulu.com. This book was released on 2019-10-22 with total page 200 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Musings of a Country Preacher are the internal thoughts exposed by Robert Coward, a minister, sinner, backslider, and recaptured prisoner of God to do his bidding once more. Robert Coward, with his life experiences; including world travels and education in four institutes of higher learning, have given him a perspective on Christian ideology that is unique, eye opening, and quite controversial in today's post modern world. Claiming to be a pre-modern man who holds fast to conservative, fundamental Christianity, Coward tells it like he believes it is and pulls no punches. Not even when it comes to his personal life. Enter the mind of a man who has been to the far reaches of the planet and back; to the highest highs of a life with God, to the lowest lows of what it's like to be a prodigal son that has now returned to his God. His Facebook group site "The Sword of the Lord", was begun to help others in their walk with God, to stand firm when life goes awry, and to not make the same mistakes as he.
Download or read book A Treasure of Sixty Years of Preaching written by Jim Thompson, D.M. and published by Covenant Books, Inc.. This book was released on 2022-09-13 with total page 173 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is written for the glory of God. All messages may be used for preaching, teaching, and personal growth. The messages have been inspired by Our Precious Lord and, as such, may be used by all who worship Him in spirit and in truth. All scripture quoted is from the King James Version of the Bible. All references to God, as nouns and pronouns, are intentionally capitalized in respect to God the Father; Jesus Christ, His only Begotten Son; and the Holy Spirit. This may not be grammatically proper; however, this is proper in my heart. The messages contained in this work are a treasure of over sixty years of preaching, teaching, and studies. Each message was the gift of the Holy Spirit, who inspired and guided me in the preparation and preaching of the Gospel. It is my prayer that each message will be used for the glory of God and, in so doing, will be useful in bringing people to Jesus, revival in the hearts of believers, and growth in each one of God's elect. When the Lord Jesus called Simon Peter and Andrew to be disciples, He said to them, "Follow Me, and I will make you fishers of men" (Matt. 4:19). After the resurrection of Jesus, He appeared to His disciples at the Sea of Tiberias as they were in a boat fishing and had come to shore after the obeying the orders of Jesus and had caught a large number of fish. Jesus asked Peter about his love for Him and then ordered Peter to "feed My sheep" (John21:16). These messages are an effort to accomplish these orders from our Master: to be "fishers of men" and to feed His flock. May the gracious blessings of Our Lord be upon you as you use this work for personal growth and feeding His sheep.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: As pastor of a small country church, husband to the Gracious Mistress of the Parsonage, father to three, grandfather to nine, and great-grandfather to one, I take great delight in finding the funny side of any situation. My wife doesn’t always delight in my sense of humor, however. (I think she doesn’t understand it, but I won’t say that aloud.) Then again, we have enjoyed more than forty-five years of wedded bliss, so she has obviously found a way to abide my idea of comedy. “For a long time I was under the impression that my wife was giving me compliments. It takes a husband a long time to understand his wife, and by the time he understands her, she has morphed into the next level of womanhood. The man who thinks he knows his wife needs a psychiatrist, preferably a woman psychiatrist.”

Download or read book The Heart of a Great Pastor written by H. B. London and published by Gospel Light Publications. This book was released on 2006-09-05 with total page 276 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Heart of a Great Pastor salutes pastors everywhere – those wanting to take a fresh look at their ministries, as well as those just starting out. As the baton is passed to the “new breed of pastors,” there is a great need to help them count the cost of serving Christ and equip them with the tools, wisdom and encouragement from those who have gone before them. H.B. London, Jr., and Neil B.Wiseman bring their experiences and heart to pastors for such a task. To the “new breed,” they ask: Do you have a mentor? Have you examined your unique call and place in society? Do you have buy-in from your spouse and children? Do you spend as much time in the Word and study as you do in the entrepreneurial pursuits of your ministry? Do you genuinely love people? Do you really understand how invested God is in you and how important it is for you to make it? Here is help for young pastors and their mentors to stay strong personally while taking churches to the edge of creative, imaginative newness for Christ while remaining safely anchored to the abiding and adventuresome gospel.
Download or read book The Gospel We Preach written by Keith Tipple and published by Christian Faith Publishing, Inc.. This book was released on 2022-08-01 with total page 216 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: It is my desire, through the writing of The Gospel We Preach, to bring an exposition of the different aspects and truths of the Gospel of Jesus Christ. Preaching may take many different forms, whether from the church pulpit or in more relaxed environments in coffee bars or small groups. Water can come in various containers, but it is still water! The Gospel can be presented in various ways, but it must still be the Gospel that eventually leads to genuine repentance to life. It is a love story of God seeking to bring a lost world back into relationship with Himself. It is a plan that called for the greatest sacrifice the universe has ever seen. It is the Gospel of God's grace and love that offers every living soul the opportunity to step out of spiritual darkness and death into the abundant life of Christ. This book will take you on a journey through the great truths of salvation that every believer needs to understand. To become a disciple and fully devoted follower of Jesus Christ, it is vitally important to understand who we are in Christ and how this new life He offers really transforms. The Gospel We Preach can be given to those who may not as yet come to faith in Christ, and it will be a great resource for all believers, whether new to the faith or have been serving God for many years. For those who aspire to become preachers and those who have perhaps been serving the Lord in ministry for many years, my prayer is that this book will inspire you to preach the Gospel with all its amazing love, passion, and power. The book is illustrated with some personal testimony and some amusing incidents. May you be blessed as you read The Gospel We Preach.
Download or read book Writing for the Ear Preaching from the Heart written by Donna Giver-Johnston and published by Fortress Press. This book was released on 2021-08-10 with total page 163 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Words bombard us every day. Words can be noisy and cheap. And yet, words are all preachers have. In Writing for the Ear, Preaching from the Heart, Donna Giver-Johnston addresses the question: How do you capture ears in an era of noise? Many preachers want to get away from their notes and make a more personal connection with their listeners, but they have not been mentored in methods that enable them to do that. Grounded in a theology of incarnation and articulation and coupled with an awareness of what listeners most need and want to hear, Giver-Johnston explains how preachers can communicate more effectively--how they can write sermons for the ear, with the fewest, most impactful words to craft a memorable message. She also provides guidance on how to preach sermons by heart, without notes, to communicate a message that captures the ears and hearts of listeners. In a time when attention spans are shortening and church participation is declining, this book provides a proven method for preachers to communicate in ways that are meaningful and memorable to aching ears today and that can change the world for good, and for God, one longing heart at a time.
