Yates and Pearce had undertakena Missionary tour, of consider able extent, up the country. By a journal of this excursion which has since been received, we learn that, among other places, they visited the city of N uddea, the great seat of native literature in Bengal. With a view to communicate their mes sage to the learned men residing there in the most agreeable form, they had prepared tracts in the Sungskrit language, and the result was highly gratifying. During the journey, he embraced many Opportunities of preaching, and con versing with the natives. The language employed by this brother, in relation to one occasion of this sort, appears to be applicable in a more general way. Some, he informs us, seemed con vinced of their unholy lives; others to feel that they had built their eternal hopes upon a bad foundation, at best a doubtful one; and not a few showed by their looks the emptiness of their minds, and that their souls were without knowledge.
