Book excerpt: What do you do when you feel unworthy? How do you find freedom from shame, guilt, and sin? We've boiled down the message of Christianity to being imperfect people who have been forgiven. But what if the message isn't just about what Christ has done for us--forgiving our sins so we can go to heaven one day--but also about what He has done to us? Life is filled with shame, guilt, sin, and hurt. These things have convinced us that we're flawed, we're not enough, and that something is uniquely wrong with who we are. And quite honestly, we look to Christianity for help and the message we often hear leaves us disappointed, doubtful, and disillusioned. Zach Maldonado has experienced this firsthand. But he's discovered that who we truly are is not found in what we've done or what we've gone through. In Perfect and Forgiven, Zach takes us into his own journey of identity, and with humor, vulnerability, and a unique story-driven format, reveals how to live free from shame, guilt, and sin. Through understanding who you are in Christ, you can begin to live free from the shame that condemns you, the guilt that riddles you, and the sin that entangles you.

Purchasers can usually download a free scanned copy of the original book (without typos) from the publisher. Not indexed. Not illustrated. 184? edition. Excerpt: ...upon us that we are capable of, and to give the strongest and most powerful motive possible to its performance. See Ephes. 4: 32. This duty is more directly and expressly required in the New Testament than in the Old. Required then it was, but not so openly, so plainly, so expressly, as now. Zechariah, when he died, cried, " The Lord look on it, and require it;" but Stephen, dying in the same cause, said, " Lord, lay not this sin to their charge." Elijah called for fire from heaven; but our Savior reproves the least inclination in his disciples to imitate him. Arid the reason of this difference is, that forgiveness in God is far more clearly exhibited, especially in the nature and cause of it, in the Gospel, which hath brought life and immortality to light, than it was under the law. This forgiveness of others is made an express condition of our obtaining forgiveness from God. Matt. 6: 14, 15. Our forgiving others will not procure forgiveness for ourselves; but our not forgiving others proves that we ourselves are not forgiven. All these things show what weight God himself lays on this duty. 2. This duty is such, that there is nothing more comely, useful, or honorable, than a due performance of it. To be morose, implacable, inexorable, revengeful, is one of the greatest degeneracies of human nature. To remember injuries, to retain a sense of wrongs, to watch for opportunities of revenge, to hate and be maliciously perverse, is to represent the image of the devil to the world in its proper colors; he is the great enemy and self avenger. On the other hand, no grace, no duty, no ornament of the mind is in itself so lovely, so praiseworthy, or so useful to mankind, as are meekness and readiness to forgive. This is that principally which...

Book Praying for Forgiveness from A Z

Download or read book Praying for Forgiveness from A Z written by Fay Gunter and published by WestBow Press. This book was released on 2014-10-27 with total page 169 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Sin. Its such a common word, especially in the Christian culture. Even though its a little word in the dictionary, its a very big word in our lives and how God views us as a people. Each and every person who has ever lived on earth, except for Jesus Christ, has sinned. We are all born into sin. Although our human nature doesnt like to consider ourselves as sinners and we often struggle with calling ourselves sinners, its a fact of life that we cant ignore. What do we do about sin? Do we try to deny or hide from the fact that we sin? Do we admit to ourselves that we sin? Do we look on our sins as not so bad compared to other peoples? Do we feel guilty about our sin or only regret the sin when weve been caught? Do we enjoy the sin and not want to give it up? Do we think of sin as really bad or just what everyone does, and its a part of life? Merriam-Websters Dictionary calls sin reprehensible. If a dictionary gives the meaning of sin as something so horrible sounding, what in the world does our God who is Holy, think about sin? Has our prayer life become stagnant because of our sin? Can we actually separate ourselves from a loving Father because of our sin? Even when Christ lives in us and His blood has washed away our sin, we still sin and will until the day we pass from this earth. How do we draw closer to God when we know that we have sinned and havent repented?

Book excerpt: The single most blessed truth of all time is that God forgives sins. What would the destiny of mankind be if all were to perish in their sins? The fact is that every man and woman (except Jesus Christ) that ever drew breath has transgressed the law of a perfectly holy creator God to whom they must give an account for their sin. Only that which is perfect can occupy heaven with God for all eternity. So then how can a man be saved from the penalty due his sins? In this volume Henry Law treats in great detail the marvelous truth that sin can be forgiven. There are many aspects to this truth and to mistake one at any point is to corrupt the gospel of Jesus Christ. You will be richly blessed by the glorious truth that Henry Law expounds concerning our blessed hope of salvation from sin--in and by--our Savior. This book is an excellent resource for evangelism to those that do not yet understand the gospel and a deeply devotional work for those of us that do.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "In The Forgiveness of Sins, Tim Carter examines the significance of forgiveness in a New Testament context, delving deep into second-century Christian literature on sin and the role of the early church in mitigating it. This crucial spiritual issue is at the core of what it means to be Christian, and Carter's thorough and erudite examination of this theme is a necessity for any professional or amateur scholar of the early church. Carter's far-reaching analysis begins with St Luke, who is often accused of weakness on the subject of atonement, but who in fact uses the phrase 'forgiveness of sins' more frequently than any other New Testament author. Carter explores patristic writers both heterodox and orthodox, such as Marcion, Justin Martyr and Origen. He also deepens our understanding of Second Temple Judaism and the theological context in which Christian ideas about atonement developed. Useful to both the academic and the pastoral theologian, The Forgiveness of Sins is a painstaking, clear-eyed exploration of what forgiveness meant not only to early Christians such as Tertullian, Irenaeus and Luke, but to Jesus himself, and what it means to Christians today."

Book excerpt: ab·so·lu·tion[ˌabsəˈl(y)o͞oSH(ə)n]NOUNformal release from guilt, obligation, or punishment.synonyms: forgiveness · pardon · exoneration · remission · dispensation · indulgence · clemency · mercy · discharge · acquittal · freedom · deliverance · release ·an ecclesiastical declaration of forgiveness of sins:God declares to you this day and everyday of your life that through Jesus Christ and His sacrifice you have:ABSOLUTIONGod's unfailing love stretches beyond anything a human being has done, is doing, or will do; Nothing that someone does can separate them from a loving God who created you with purpose, on purpose, and for a purpose. Through man's sin at the tree of the knowledge of good and evil God set into motion a redemptive act that would allow mankind to commune without spot or blemish with a Holy God by sending a piece of Him to take on earthly human form, live a life without sin, but die a death meant for the worst of sinners; IN YOUR PLACE AS SACRIFICE FOR ALL SIN. If Jesus died to bring forgiveness of your past sins, then every time you sinned Jesus would have to go back on the cross and die again for your sin. Jesus' death was a finished work of redemption meaning this - YOU are forgiven for past, present, and future sin; He was beaten, ridiculed, tortured, stabbed, spit on, mocked, died, went to the pit of hell to take back the keys of spiritual separation, and rose from the dead in a finished continual work to cover all humankinds sin, shortcomings, failures, disease, mistakes, and death itself to bring God's most beloved creation YOU back into right standing with God The Father.Absolution comes from the root word Absolute. It is a strong English word with definitive meaning; It is a word that expresses sharp complete and total completion. In this word God began to bring so much peace to me; It is human nature to think back and wish one did this differently or didn't go down that road; Maybe could erase a mistake or two and do a few things better. There is nothing wrong with thinking about your past; remembering the great accomplishments, reflecting on how you learned from this action or that encounter. It is really important though, not to fall into a trap of regret. The dean of students at a Bible college I attended was giving a lecture and asked the classroom this question: "How many of you would like to erase your mistakes?", the whole classroom raises their hands. "If you learn from your mistakes, it erase the mistake and turns it into a life lesson" - Pastor Todd Holmes. Regret can lead you down a road to depression that swallows someone from moving forward in a self inflicted force to undermine accomplishing great things for the kingdom of God. It is easy to go deep into thought about mistakes and after a short while it becomes a long winding road where your mind is only clouded with regret and you forget all the wonderful things God has done for you. The enemy of your soul fights on a minute by minute basis to try and distract you from living a full and meaningful life; One of the ways Satan tries to distract the believer is by putting thoughts into your head. The best way to avoid focusing on all the mistakes you may have made is by focusing on all the wonderful ways God has showed up for you and blessed you with life. Like I said it is great to learn from life; It is destructive to regret your life! In the chapters of this book we are going to focus on the amazing, absolute, complete, and total forgiveness God has granted to everyone living on planet earth through dissection of the Holy written Word of God; Through testimonies; Life stories; Inspirational quotations; And many other sources to bring wisdom and relevance to this subject of amazing grace and wonderful good news = The Gospel.
