Book Scholars in the Marketplace The Dilemmas of Neo Liberal Reform at Makerere University 1989 2005

Download or read book Scholars in the Marketplace The Dilemmas of Neo Liberal Reform at Makerere University 1989 2005 written by Mahmood Mamdani and published by African Books Collective. This book was released on 2007 with total page 314 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Scholars in the Marketplace is a case study of market-based reforms at Uganda's Makerere University. With the World Bank heralding neoliberal reform at Makerere as the model for the transformation of higher education in Africa, it has implications for the whole continent. At the global level, the Makerere case exemplifies the fate of public universities in a market-oriented and capital friendly era. The Makerere reform began in the 1990s and was based on the premise that higher education is more of a private than a public good. Instead of pitting the public against the private, and the state against the market, this book shifts the terms of the debate toward a third alternative than explores different relations between the two. The book distinguishes between privatisation and commercialisation, two processes that drove the Makerere reform. It argues that whereas privatisation (the entry of privately sponsored students) is compatible with a public university where priorities are publicly set, commercialisation (financial and administrative autonomy for each faculty to design a market-responsive curriculum) inevitably leads to a market determination of priorities in a public university. The book warns against commercialisation of public universities as the subversion of public institutions for private purposes.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Eden's Bridge: The Marketplace in Creation and Mission explores a biblically based theology of the marketplace implicit in the creation narrative of Genesis 1-2. The thesis validates the calling and ministry of all marketplace Christians. David Doty invites readers to rethink and redirect the purposes of vocation, trade, and profit toward the purposes of God's Kingdom, as they were revealed in the beginning and are to be restored in Christ's reign. This book is eye-opening and inviting as it explores how God is moving to reclaim the marketplace for His Kingdom, and His redeeming purposes for the world of commerce. The marketplace holds untold potential if business is conducted according to God's plan: poverty can be eradicated, abundant living can be shared among all people, and shalom can prevail. Eden's Bridge offers hope for recovering from the recent collapse of the global economic system by envisioning a new view of how wealth is made and how the marketplace is yet to serve God's purposes in His mission to the world.

Book Understanding and Developing Theological Education

Download or read book Understanding and Developing Theological Education written by Bernhard Ott and published by Langham Global Library. This book was released on 2016-01-31 with total page 475 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Historically education has been driven from behind – the history, and above – the educational institution. Traditions and adherence requirements have led to inflexible models of school leadership that are focused on administration and rife with educational politics. In contrast, today’s theological landscape needs institutions with a grassroots-driven educational system, looking to a future that is biblically and theologically grounded. This publication, an English translation from the original German focuses on the leadership and curriculum development required for such a paradigm shift. Ott comprehensively assesses trends in current theological education across the world with detailed reference to wider trends in global tertiary education. Written primarily for those in leadership roles at theological schools and training institutions, this handbook is an essential resource for equipping the next generation of leaders in theological education.

Book Marketplace Mission Trip

Download or read book Marketplace Mission Trip written by Mike Henry and published by High Bridge Books. This book was released on 2022-06-28 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: How would a missionary do your job? Mike Henry's church took many mission trips to faraway places. God did great things on those trips. But Mike never had the resources, availability, or call to go on a mission trip. Then Mike began to wonder... What if he took a mission trip to his own workplace? How might God show up if Mike served, prayed for, and shared Jesus with the people he met every day in the office? Mike gave it a try and discovered that God showed up at the office, too. And so was born Marketplace Mission Trip, a 6-week exercise to answer the question, "How would a missionary do my job?" In this guide, you will cover a key idea each week to help you do your job like a missionary. After each session, you'll work through a Bible verse and suggested activity for each workday of the following week. Like any mission trip, you shouldn't go on a marketplace mission by yourself. You need a team of people to support, encourage, challenge, and pray for each other. This book is designed for a group. After six weeks, you should have a great habit established to go into your daily mission field with an action plan!
