Book The Road Towards DemocraCity

Download or read book The Road Towards DemocraCity written by Marco Carcea and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2021-08-09 with total page 228 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book discusses the challenges faced by the homo resaliens and his need for a transition to a more sustainable social, economic, and environmental system. It fills a gap in the existing literature and provides a new perspective by changing the etymology of the word resilience: no more resiliere, but resalio. By comparing and analysing the relevant literature, the author has coined the term homo resaliens (resilient man), in contrast to the failure of the homo oeconomicus, the corruption of the homo politicus, the incompleteness of homo sustinens, and the limits of homo ecologicus. Opening a new debate in which the role of academia and res publica are fundamental to safeguard human communities and future generations, this book will greatly assist governments that wish to understand the socio-political and economic implication of resilience in terms of social inclusiveness and long term social and environmental sustainability.

Book The Dawning of the Apocalypse

Download or read book The Dawning of the Apocalypse written by Gerald Horne and published by NYU Press. This book was released on 2020-06-30 with total page 243 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Acclaimed historian Gerald Horne troubles America's settler colonialism's "creation myth" August 2019 saw numerous commemorations of the year 1619, when what was said to be the first arrival of enslaved Africans occurred in North America. Yet in the 1520s, the Spanish, from their imperial perch in Santo Domingo, had already brought enslaved Africans to what was to become South Carolina. The enslaved people here quickly defected to local Indigenous populations, and compelled their captors to flee. Deploying such illuminating research, The Dawning of the Apocalypse is a riveting revision of the “creation myth” of settler colonialism and how the United States was formed. Here, Gerald Horne argues forcefully that, in order to understand the arrival of colonists from the British Isles in the early seventeenth century, one must first understand the “long sixteenth century”– from 1492 until the arrival of settlers in Virginia in 1607. During this prolonged century, Horne contends, “whiteness” morphed into “white supremacy,” and allowed England to co-opt not only religious minorities but also various nationalities throughout Europe, thus forging a muscular bloc that was needed to confront rambunctious Indigenes and Africans. In retelling the bloodthirsty story of the invasion of the Americas, Horne recounts how the fierce resistance by Africans and their Indigenous allies weakened Spain and enabled London to dispatch settlers to Virginia in 1607. These settlers laid the groundwork for the British Empire and its revolting spawn that became the United States of America.

Not riches in monetary values or materialistic achievements but more personal goals achieved throughout my life. In the same breath we thank my Creator for all the things in life given to us free of charge eg. the air that we breath, our sight, our hearing, our taste, our smell and many more. Our parents struggled in life to rear us and give us everything a child could ask for. We had no wealth or inheritance but are always thankful to our parents who instilled in us love, passion, the ability to help others and to be good to our neighbours and the elders. As a child I always had the energy and goal to achieve high expectations, reaching for the ultimate peak in society. Sport was my passion. I excelled in athletics being the fastest sprinter in my time, in my age group and in my province. I was also a successful professional soccer player. Toured South Africa, played against top soccer teams in my country of birth and rubbed shoulders against some of the world's greatest soccer legends. I was very successful in the Retail world in Johannesburg, South Africa where many employees reported to me directly or indirectly. Retail was my life for over 30 years and I was employed by Woolworths. I married the most beautiful loving mother of my three children. Life had many ups and downs but we achieved many goals together. We enjoyed a short 22 years marriage until the day arrived when the Almighty took her away from us. After her passing we immigrated to Australia starting a new life in a new country. Australia to us was the best move. We can plan but the Almighty plans better. We opened our own business which lasted for over 20 years until retirement. I am thankful to my parents, my siblings, my children, friends and family and above all, my Creator. I hope that whoever reads my story will be inspired, motivated and achieve the highest level in life, Who knows, maybe a movie producer will pick up my story one day and transfer it on the big screen. God willing. In Shaa Allah.
