It covers history and theory, contract and rights, participation, equality, and job security. It also has chapters on essential topics for modern labour policy: the right to vote for company boards, in work councils and pension funds, and laws to achieve full employment by ending underpaid underemployment. Book Taming the Lion

Download or read book Taming the Lion written by Richard Farleigh and published by iMinds Pty Ltd. This book was released on 2005 with total page 137 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Highly successful trader, investor and former hedge fund manager, Richard Farleigh, reveals the 100 secret investment strategies that he developed to succeed in the markets. As Farleigh's trading results started to attract international attention, he was frequently asked to give presentations of his ideas to other professional traders. From the feedback during these sessions he realised that others were interested in an approach to investing which was based on first principles. Finding that anecdotes were the best way to make a point, and that ideas could be summarised into numbered strategies, allowed him to show clearly how the methodology worked. Years later, Farleigh is still using the same approach, and has found that amateurs as well as professionals, are keen to find out how markets work and how to improve their investment performance. This book contains those secrets. Some of the beliefs that he incorporates into his strategies include: Markets tend to under-react, not overreact. Big, obvious ideas offer great opportunities. It is safe to invest with a consensus view. Contrarian trading is usually irrational. It is best to enter and exit the share market at the right times instead of always staying invested. Price trends are well known but under-utilised. Chartists are just astrologers. Investment and trading are increasingly similar. "Anyone who was able to retire at the age of 34, move to Monte Carlo and become a private investor must have made some smart investment decisions. Richard Farleigh did just that and he's sharing his secrets in this book." Money Magazine "Taming the Lion is a book about profiting from big themes. From humble beginnings in Australia, Farleigh made a fortune following powerful trends, the most effective and least stressful route to investment success. He knows how to write too." Telegraph "Overall I feel there is so much information in this book, it is probably one I will keep re-reading as I make investment decisions. I especially like the way it has reminded me that there are other asset classes to invest in other than shares and property and yet the same strategies are applicable." Investors Voice

Book Text Analysis Pipelines

Download or read book Text Analysis Pipelines written by Henning Wachsmuth and published by Springer. This book was released on 2015-12-02 with total page 317 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This monograph proposes a comprehensive and fully automatic approach to designing text analysis pipelines for arbitrary information needs that are optimal in terms of run-time efficiency and that robustly mine relevant information from text of any kind. Based on state-of-the-art techniques from machine learning and other areas of artificial intelligence, novel pipeline construction and execution algorithms are developed and implemented in prototypical software. Formal analyses of the algorithms and extensive empirical experiments underline that the proposed approach represents an essential step towards the ad-hoc use of text mining in web search and big data analytics. Both web search and big data analytics aim to fulfill peoples’ needs for information in an adhoc manner. The information sought for is often hidden in large amounts of natural language text. Instead of simply returning links to potentially relevant texts, leading search and analytics engines have started to directly mine relevant information from the texts. To this end, they execute text analysis pipelines that may consist of several complex information-extraction and text-classification stages. Due to practical requirements of efficiency and robustness, however, the use of text mining has so far been limited to anticipated information needs that can be fulfilled with rather simple, manually constructed pipelines.

Download or read book Drive written by Daniel H. Pink and published by Penguin. This book was released on 2011-04-05 with total page 275 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The New York Times bestseller that gives readers a paradigm-shattering new way to think about motivation from the author of When: The Scientific Secrets of Perfect Timing Most people believe that the best way to motivate is with rewards like money—the carrot-and-stick approach. That's a mistake, says Daniel H. Pink (author of To Sell Is Human: The Surprising Truth About Motivating Others). In this provocative and persuasive new book, he asserts that the secret to high performance and satisfaction-at work, at school, and at home—is the deeply human need to direct our own lives, to learn and create new things, and to do better by ourselves and our world. Drawing on four decades of scientific research on human motivation, Pink exposes the mismatch between what science knows and what business does—and how that affects every aspect of life. He examines the three elements of true motivation—autonomy, mastery, and purpose-and offers smart and surprising techniques for putting these into action in a unique book that will change how we think and transform how we live.

Book Just Price Theory

    Book Details:
  • Author : Joaquín Reyes
  • Publisher : Bloomsbury Publishing
  • Release : 2023-08-10
  • ISBN : 1509963510
  • Pages : 207 pages

Download or read book Just Price Theory written by Joaquín Reyes and published by Bloomsbury Publishing. This book was released on 2023-08-10 with total page 207 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book presents an original theory of the just price, and it is a welcome addition to scholarship on a radically underdeveloped field. This work reassesses the age-old idea that there is a just price of things, one that goes beyond the Scholastic tradition of the just price and its exclusive concern with commutative justice. There is more to just price theory than the concern for keeping equality of value between goods exchanged. Modern concerns over efficiency, autonomy, and distributive justice, can also find a place within a theory of the just price. The book: - Presents a new approach to just price theory through a broad analysis of different values and the incorporation of those conceptions into a wider normative framework - Argues that these different values ground varied conceptions of the just price, and - Promotes a virtue-based approach to price justification as an adequate framework for meeting the challenges that stem from each conception Perfect for scholars and students in the fields of jurisprudence, philosophy of private law, contract law, and political theory, this book makes a significant contribution to legal theory and the emerging field of the philosophy of economics.

Book The Efficiency Paradox

Download or read book The Efficiency Paradox written by Edward Tenner and published by Vintage. This book was released on 2018-04-17 with total page 314 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A "skillful and lucid" (The Wall Street Journal) way of thinking about efficiency, challenging our obsession with it—and offering a new understanding of how to benefit from the powerful potential of serendipity. Algorithms, multitasking, the sharing economy, life hacks: our culture can't get enough of efficiency. One of the great promises of the Internet and big data revolutions is the idea that we can improve the processes and routines of our work and personal lives to get more done in less time than we ever have before. There is no doubt that we're performing at higher levels and moving at unprecedented speed, but what if we're headed in the wrong direction? Melding the long-term history of technology with the latest headlines and findings of computer science and social science, The Efficiency Paradox questions our ingrained assumptions about efficiency, persuasively showing how relying on the algorithms of digital platforms can in fact lead to wasted efforts, missed opportunities, and, above all, an inability to break out of established patterns. Edward Tenner reveals what we and our institutions, when equipped with an astute combination of artificial intelligence and trained intuition, can learn from the random and unexpected.

Book Hard Green

    Book Details:
  • Author : Peter W Huber
  • Publisher : Basic Books
  • Release : 2008-08-01
  • ISBN : 0786723432
  • Pages : 260 pages

Download or read book Hard Green written by Peter W Huber and published by Basic Books. This book was released on 2008-08-01 with total page 260 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book sets out the case for Hard Green, a conservative environmental agenda. Modern environmentalism, Peter Huber argues, destroys the environment. Captured as it has been by the Soft Green oligarchy of scientists, regulators, and lawyers, modern environmentalism does not conserve forests, oceans, lakes, and streams - it hastens their destruction. For all its scientific pretension, Soft Green is not green at all. Its effects are the opposites of green. This book lays out the alternative: a return to Yellowstone and the National Forests, the original environmentalism of Theodore Roosevelt and the conservation movement. Chapter by chapter, Hard Green takes on the big issues of environmental discourse from scarcity and pollution to efficiency and waste disposal. This is the Hard Green manifesto: Rediscover TAR. Reaffirm the conservationist ethic. Expose the Soft Green fallacy. Reverse the Soft Green agenda. Save the environment from the environmentalists.

Book Getting from Here to There Power Politics and Urban Sustainability in North America

Download or read book Getting from Here to There Power Politics and Urban Sustainability in North America written by Ernest J. Yanarella and published by Universal-Publishers. This book was released on 2016-05-04 with total page 295 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Getting from Here to There? seeks to take the study of sustainable cities into a realm of analysis and critique that has not been seriously investigated in any explicit and systematic manner: the sphere of power and politics. Using detailed case studies of selected urban sustainability programs-some stillborn or short-lived, others celebrated, still others most promising-it focuses on the political agencies shaping them and the structural elements either impeding or facilitating efforts to build sustainable cities. To accomplish this task, the authors utilize three theories or models of urban power-growth coalition, urban regime, and neo-Gramscian hegemonic-to explore the dynamics of power and politics to better understand these cases and to derive important lessons about getting from here to there. These models offer valuable lessons for ongoing or future sustainable city programs, community or business groups, key policy makers, grassroots organizations, mayors, and urban planners involved in or contemplating moving urban sustainability projects forward, as well as students of urban politics and environmental and sustainability researchers.
