Download or read book My Journey With Multiple Sclerosis written by Marjorie A. Yobe and published by CreateSpace. This book was released on 2014-04-10 with total page 68 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Over 30 years with Multiple Sclerosis has been a journey I never intended to take. I have gone through denial to rejection to acceptance, finally. But the biggest obstacle I had to overcome was my own rejection of the reality of MS. I had to realize that MS did not define me or who I am. It has proven to be a long and soul-searching journey. I hope telling my very personal story may help someone else accept MS in themselves or a loved one. I am very fortunate to have a caregiver that is my husband and my best friend. i can only thank God he is in my life.

Book I Awake to Another Day

Download or read book I Awake to Another Day written by Frederick L. Keller and published by CreateSpace. This book was released on 2011-07-18 with total page 248 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is a first-hand account of my journey with Multiple Sclerosis (MS). As I went through the stages of diagnosis to disease management, it became apparent that while there were numerous books written on the subject of MS, most focused on the medical or clinical aspects of the disease. While these sources were certainly empirically informative, they were coldly lacking in the emotional preparation and guidance that I needed. There is a profoundly personal side to any life changing diagnosis, and this is where the true struggle resided for me. I couldn't turn to anything of a nonclinical substance that would help guide me through the emotional and mental turmoil I was experiencing. There was so much I wanted to know not only from my doctors, but also from other people with MS. As I started navigating my way through things in a bit of a clumsy fashion, I was inspired to write down my thoughts and insight as that new person with MS and what they would likely want to know not only about the disease but also about themselves. This book covers the time I reflected over the year leading up to my diagnosis and the first year after receiving my diagnosis with MS. The book is divided into three distinct parts. Part One looks at a wide variety of personal topics and experiences and the impact Multiple Sclerosis has played on each. There are times of frustration, denial and sorrow. There are topics of extreme support and heroes that have stepped up in my journey. There are character traits that can be of benefit and others that can be detrimental. The intent has been to capture these aspects, feelings and thought provoking situations and how MS has touched it all. In a way, this section is a reflection of my own personal struggle through the initial blow of learning about my MS and coming to accept it as a part of who I now am. Part Two focuses on moving from a position of understanding to truly accepting what MS means in my life. Acceptance doesn't just mean sitting still, but gaining a clear mind on how you are going to choose to live with MS. Acceptance is not just formed from the perspective of being that someone with MS, but it is formed by the people around me as well. Friends, coworkers, and family all will be affected by this disease in some way, and it is vitally important that we prepare to help everyone touched by MS come to a pure sense of acceptance. Part Three is all about capitalizing on the sense of acceptance and beginning to focus on those specific efforts and the needed energy to beat it. Knowing there is no cure today does not mean that I just give up. There are so many things that can be done to maintain a "normal" life, but it takes work and a proactive frame of mind. Like many struggles we can all face in our lives, MS is really no different. There is almost always a way to make a situation like this better, but it does take time, effort, and determination. From a personal perspective, this book intends to do two things...to help others better understand the everyday experiences of a person with MS, to know what the disease takes away, and also what the disease gives. The second, to help me as a person with MS move beyond merely accepting this disease and knowing that regardless of what limitations I may end up with, that I can contribute to a better result, a brighter future for someone, be a better father and husband to my family, and look back and feel good about my life...every minute of it. Life can be so much more if I can find the way to live with MS in my life rather than find a way to fit my life into MS. My wish to the second point is that it will do the same for you.

Book My Journey with Multiple Sclerosis

Download or read book My Journey with Multiple Sclerosis written by Marjorie yobe and published by CreateSpace. This book was released on 2015-03-07 with total page 70 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Over 30 years with Multiple Sclerosis is not a journey I ever imagined I would take. But the struggle has taught me much about myself. It would have been so easy to adopt the attitude of, "why me?" and plunge into the depths of despair. But that would be the same as giving up on myself. And I still had much to do and much more to learn about the disease and myself. There were many challenges along the way. I had to find the strength within myself to keep active and to stay positive. I rely on friends and my caregiver, my husband, who is also my best friend and supporter. I am very blessed.

Nor was it a journey that I would have wanted to take if I had had a choice. Since I did not have the choice to take this journey, I have tried to face each new point in this journey with courage and faith in myself, my family, and my friends. I have tried to not allow despair or depression dominate my thinking. I am sure that is why I am still married to the same man for close to 50 years. I am grateful to him every day of my life and hope I never allow myself to take his love for granted.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book will help you to discover new perspectives on the notion 'incurable'. It will show you new approaches out of an apparently helpless situation be it a disease or some other Goliath in your life. You can draw hope, encouragement and strength from this book and regain your joie de vivre! I have the autoimmune disease Multiple Sclerosis, as well as a chronic psoriasis and arthrosis. The doctors had given up on me and had sent me home to live as a 24/7 bedridden nursing case. I wanted to shorten my life, which I did not achieve, but being permanently in pain with intolerable hindrances I didn't want to live any longer. So I decided to try the last remaining option: I had to get healthy again! You can achieve this too - you can achieve anything you want. All you may need is the right guidance, in which case this book may help you. I didn't know exactly how to overcome my condition; I just knew that I had to do it myself. Unwaveringly, I searched for and experimented with alternative solutions and I found them in science, but not in medicine. After years of research, trial and error, I was able to get my diseases under control and to win back my life again. And so began my third life. This is my story, from being completely bedridden to being without a wheelchair, and even having my own car. In this book I tell you how I achieved it, and how anybody can. You are not alone with your fears and your worries. We are often able to achieve significantly more than others would have us believe. There is always a solution somewhere. This book is a filling station for hope.

Book Zen and the Art of Multiple Sclerosis

Download or read book Zen and the Art of Multiple Sclerosis written by Jeff Pinney and published by iUniverse. This book was released on 2012-07 with total page 102 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: JEFF PINNEY LOOKS BACK AT HIS STRUGGLES WITH MULTIPLE SCLEROSIS WHILE HOMESTEADING IN RURAL ONTARIO AS AN ARTIST AND WOOD CARVER. Jeff Pinney, a native of Hamilton, Ontario, had already gone through a series of dead-end jobs and luckless relationships by the age of thirty. He thought things couldn't get much worse until he was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis. Knowing he would suffer progressive neuromuscular deterioration in the coming years, he struck out for the country to enjoy life. While homesteading in the Haliburton highlands, he enjoyed the beauty of the natural world. His life took on an increasingly spiritual dimension as he built his home, made art, and honed his skills as a wood-carver. He overcame pain and discomfort by concentrating, applying himself, and practising Zen meditation. Rather than dwell upon the ways the disease has affected him physically, Jeff explores how he dealt with it in mental and emotional terms. He also shares his candid thoughts on treatment options for MS patients. From his porch above the beaver meadow, Jeff Pinney contemplates storms of an inner and outer nature. Bound to his wheelchair, he is beset with cabin fever; but the beauty of the world, as he recounts in Zen and the Art of Multiple Sclerosis, consoles and uplifts him.

Book The Making of a Multiple Sclerosis Patient

Download or read book The Making of a Multiple Sclerosis Patient written by S. Doherty and published by Balboa Press. This book was released on 2018-01-17 with total page 71 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: It was the thump on the right-hand side of her head that woke author S. Doherty as she gasped for air. She felt as if she had been holding her breath too long. She woke her husband to tell him she had to use the toilet. He said, Well, go. She replied, But, honey, I cant. Im paralyzed. I cant move. Maybe the doctors were right. Maybe I do have the start of multiple sclerosis. And that began her journey through the labyrinth of medical tests and pointless discussions with doctors who wouldnt listen to anything she said. The final straw came when she was refused rehabilitation because the medical professionals insisted she had multiple sclerosis simply because a machine said so. In The Making of a Multiple Sclerosis Patient, Doherty shares her story of having suffered a massive stroke, yet doctors insisted she had a case of extreme multiple sclerosis even though she didnt exhibit any symptoms of the disease. This memoir shares her fifteen-year fight from a wheelchair to prove she doesnt have multiple sclerosis.

'You will write a book one day' 'Your legs will be all right.' The last after trying to hide her shocked expression. In January 1983, a month before her 63rd birthday, Aleida died. Now, twenty years later, I look back and realise what this great lady saw then, how my life was to unfold. This book is all about my journey to healing. Born in the East Indies, now known as Indonesia, Marjolyn worked as a teacher and raised four children in Australia. Despite the demands of being a working mum she also made time to learn many healing modalities. She was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis (MS) in 1994. Over the next decade, it became increasingly difficult to manage. It became so bad that she wished she could die until... Marjolyn realised, as time went on, that the predictions her mother-in-law had made a decade earlier were starting to come to fruition. The last one being: 'Your legs will be all right.'
