Book excerpt: I ought to say no, no, no sir… Tori Helpern always wanted to be a music star, just like her hometown hero Tracy Slater. But Tori never quite found her big break and now she works as a music teacher at the same high school she couldn’t wait to get away from. Feeling washed up, Tori believes her only taste of fame will come from the solo in the holiday choir. At least I’m gonna say that I tried… Isaac Powell never needed much to make him happy. He has a good job, a nice house, and fond memories of his family growing up. When he joins the holiday choir for something fun to do after work, he doesn’t expect to get a solo for the upcoming holiday concert. Nervous about performing in front of a full audience, Isaac asks Tori to help him prepare and she needs to decide whether she should help him succeed or steal the solo away from him.

Book A Treasury of Christmas Stories and Songs

Download or read book A Treasury of Christmas Stories and Songs written by Charles Dickens and published by Strelbytskyy Multimedia Publishing. This book was released on 2021-01-08 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Enchanting, tragic, and hilarious fairy tales for adults and children grace these pages. An initial glance might lead you to assume that these are satirical versions of classic Christmas ghost stories. However, beneath the humorous stories involving ghosts, repentant sinners, miracles, and good peasants who find well-deserved happiness, lies a psychological undercurrent that sharpens the sense of intrigue and plot movement. Often this is aided by the unrelenting social exposure of the authors who always understood how intangible the “bourgeois paradise” truly was. Even today, idyllic dreams of tolerance, equality, and the triumph of justice have failed to materialize. Perhaps that is why people continue to read these classic stories while the snow falls outside and the lights glow on the Christmas tree. Contents: Charles Dickens - A Christmas Carol; Gilbert Keith Chesterton - A Christmas Carol; Lucy Maud Montgomery - A Christmas Inspiration, A Christmas Mistake, Christmas at Red Butte; Lyman Frank Baum - A Kidnapped Santa Claus; Mark Twain - A Letter from Santa Claus; Louisa May Alcott - A Merry Christmas; Leo Tolstoy - A Russian Christmas Party; Henry Wadsworth Longfellow - Christmas Bells; Nikolai Gogol - Christmas Eve; William Dean Howells - Christmas Everyday; Joseph Rudyard Kipling - Christmas in India; Lyman Frank Baum - Little Bun Rabbit; Elizabeth Harrison - Little Gretchen and the Wooden Shoe; John Milton - On the Morning of Christ’s Nativity; Charles Dickens - The Chimes; Hans Christian Andersen - The Fir Tree; Selma Lagerlöf - The Holy Night; Hans Christian Andersen - The Little Match Girl; Clement Moore - The Night Before Christmas; Henry van Dyke - The Other Wise Man; William Dean Howells - The Pony Engine and the Pacific Express; Beatrix Potter - The Tailor of Gloucester; Henry Wadsworth Longfellow - The Three Kings; Anton Chehov - Vanka.

Book The Christmas Time Travelers 1

Download or read book The Christmas Time Travelers 1 written by Laurence Haynes and published by . This book was released on 2021-07-21 with total page 28 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Christmas Time Travelers by L. M. Haynes is a very original and fascinating Christmas story - one which is definitely a unique twist on the First Christmas for kids growing up, especially if they are dog lovers! In this tale, an inventor builds a time machine in which he decides to do a test on Christmas Eve. So, once he readies the machine and sets the automatic return timer for eight hours, he gets distracted by Christmas Carolers at his front door. Before he realizes it, his three dogs have run into the time machine and the gadget's door closed behind them - then, poof...the machine disappears. Realizing what has happened, the professor is saddened to have lost his three loved dogs, and his time machine. The next part of the book tells the story from the time-traveling dog's perspective, as they come across the Nativity scene of Jesus Christ being born. The dogs witness, first hand, the miracle of that evening. After a few hours, the trio of K-9s find a comfortable spot in the barn, and nestle down in some hay and drift off to sleep. Lily, one of the dogs, gets a little restless and decides to explore the barn while the others sleep. Lily brushes up against the blue blanket used to wrap the baby Jesus in his crib, and a piece of the blanket gets caught in Lily's collar. The professor realizes the timer was set for eight hours, and as that time is approaching, he sits in a chair to await the return of his time machine. Sure enough, at the right moment, the time machine reappears and the dogs are within; healthy, happy, and glad to return to their home. Only this time, there is a piece of the blue blanket still attached to Lily's collar as physical evidence of the dogs' journey to the First Christmas, and back. The illustrations by the author bring together the story with a visual theme making it an ideal bedtime story to be read to youngsters, especially during the holidays. Having the physical evidence of the blanket reinforces the faith of the professor, yet as the moral of the story says each of us needs to find our own evidence of our faith. The book ends with a quote from John 20:29 - Then Jesus told him, "Because you have seen me, you have believed; blessed are those who have not seen and yet have believed." As the piece of the blue blanket was the proof for faith to the professor, all readers will need to find their own evidence to their faith, as The Christmas Time Travelers brings to all's awareness.

Book Christmas on Jane Street

Download or read book Christmas on Jane Street written by Billy Romp and published by Harper Collins. This book was released on 2013-05-21 with total page 116 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This “sweet tale” of a Vermont family’s annual trek to New York City to sell trees is “a cross between It’s a Wonderful Life and A Christmas Carol” (USA Today). Every holiday season for nearly twenty years, Billy Romp, his wife, and their three children have spent nearly a month living in a tiny camper and selling Christmas trees on Jane Street in New York City. They arrive from Vermont the day after Thanksgiving and leave just in time to make it home for Christmas morning—and for a few weeks they transform a corner of the Big Apple into a Frank Capra-esque small town alive with heartwarming holiday spirit. A lovely, lovingly illustrated little gem of a book, this delightful tenth anniversary edition of a beloved Christmas classic tells the poignant, inspiring story of an unforgettable family that brings the Christmas spirit to life on a street corner in Manhattan and the warm, wide circle of friends who have welcomed them to the neighborhood. Christmas on Jane Street is about the transformative power of love—love of parent and child, of merchant and customer, of stranger and neighbor. The ideal Christmas story, it is about the lasting and profound difference that one person can make to a family and one family can make to a community. “A heartwarming story”—Newsday “A touching tale fragrant with the season . . . a special treat for those who love Christmas trees.” —Tampa Tribune
