Book excerpt: A profound exploration of how to hold on to hope when our unchanging faith collides with a changing culture, from two respected Christian storytellers and thought leaders. “Offers neither spin control nor image maintenance for the evangelical tribe, but genuine hope.”—Russell Moore, president of ERLC As the pressures of health warnings, economic turmoil, and partisan politics continue to rise, the influence of gospel-focused Christians seems to be waning. In the public square and popular opinion, we are losing our voice right when it’s needed most for Christ’s glory and the common good. But there’s another story unfolding too—if you know where to look. In Gospelbound, Collin Hansen and Sarah Eekhoff Zylstra counter these growing fears with a robust message of resolute hope for anyone hungry for good news. Join them in exploring profound stories of Christians who are quietly changing the world in the name of Jesus—from the wild world of digital media to the stories of ancient saints and unsung contemporary activists on the frontiers of justice and mercy. Discover how, in these dark times, the light of Jesus shines even brighter. You haven’t heard the whole story. And that’s good news.

Download or read book Equality written by Robert E. Tully and published by Rowman & Littlefield. This book was released on 2019-12-12 with total page 367 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The essays in this volume on the subject of equality are the work of scholars at Bard College and West Point. Their research falls within the areas of history, religion, legal theory, social science, ethics and philosophy. The regions covered include the Middle and Far East, Europe, and America; the time periods studied are both contemporary and historical. Each essay is a well-detailed exploration which assumes the reader has no prior acquaintance with the topic. Together, the studies reveal both conflicting standards of equality as well as patterns of pernicious inequality. In an ideal world, equality and inequality among humans would vary in acceptable proportion, increase of the one ensuring decrease of the other. Unfortunately, as the studies illustrate, any such expectation of progress in the real world is almost routinely thwarted. Despite the wide variety of topics, a common thread binds these essays. Human nature seems to harbor a moral deficiency lying deeper than any written laws and those traditional customs which promote inequality and breed injustice. The fault is prominent in those who champion unjust laws or who willingly enforce discrimination but it is no less active in the silent many who condone the practice. The essays reveal the same persistent and unappealing trait which social groups from the remote past to the present manifest in various ways: blind determination to perpetuate whatever advantages one group believes it enjoys over another, convinced that its own members are more equal than theirs. Being made unequal, the others too easily become targets who are considered less worthy, sometimes even less human.

Book excerpt: The handbook to prepare Christian leaders for God's calling!Between the moment you are anointed to do God's work, and the moment you are announced to do God's work, there is a process. This journey often serves as a time of growth and change because no one is made great overnight. David was anointed in his youth to be king, but he didn't actually become king until he was 30 years of age, and then he ruled for 40 years. Jesus performed his first miracle at the age of 12, but even then, he made it known that his time was yet to come. Becoming a great leader is a process in which many today become frustrated along the way and even quit. In this handbook, explore common traits that every great leader should possess as Mrs. King illustrates her points with her personal encounters, examples from Scripture, and stories of leaders in the Bible, such as Moses, the Apostle Paul, the three Hebrew boys, and others. One of the keys to successful leadership is applying the concepts that have made other leaders great. Here's your opportunity to do just that!

Book excerpt: The Union is a prophetic message that confronts deceptive and divisive strongholds of the last days' churches. Let the Holy Spirit, our Teacher, untangle the confusion that has divided us by blinding us to the pure Word of God. The uniqueness of The Union lies in its goal of perfect unity among Jewish and gentile believers through the singular nature of Truth. To that end, revelations of deep, formerly hidden passages bring mysteries to light in this eye-opening Biblical exposition. Search and find hidden manna that brings us into the fullness of life in Christ. Discover how God's covenants clarify a single gospel to us all. Examine the Jewish roots of the Christian faith to appreciate the unity of the Scriptures, and let the Word of God lead us into The Union at last! The integrity of the Word advances through The Union to purify and prepare the elect. Today it is urgent that those who profess faith in the Savior receive the Word of God in preference to the words of men. With nearly three-thousand verses, "Repent and believe all the Scriptures!" is the charge of The Union to the churches in these extraordinary times. The Messiah will return for a blameless and spotless Bride, holy in faith and conduct. "Be prepared to meet Him!" is the resonant call of The Union. Former co-host of the internationally syndicated radio program, Man Alive, Joan Richardson is anointed with the gift of prophecy as a motivational speaker, evangelist, and author.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Isaiah 40–66, by Marvin A. Sweeney, is the nineteenth published volume in The Forms of Old Testament Literature (FOTL), a series that provides a form-critical analysis of the books and units in the Hebrew Bible. Building on his earlier FOTL volume Isaiah 1–39, Sweeney here presents his analysis of Isaiah 40–66 within both the synchronic literary form of Isaiah and the diachronic history of its composition. In keeping with the methodology and goals of the FOTL series, Isaiah 40–66 offers detailed examinations of the formal structure of the chapters covered; the genres that function within these chapters; the literary, historical, and social settings of the text; and the overall interpretation of Isaiah 40–66 and its constituent textual units. Including a glossary of the genres and formulas discussed, this commentary will be a useful resource to anyone wishing to engage more deeply with this central book in the Hebrew Bible.

Book Contemporary African Americanpreaching P3040

Download or read book Contemporary African Americanpreaching P3040 written by and published by Chalice Press. This book was released on with total page 172 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: L. Susan Bond reveals the full range and diversity of African American preaching in this exploration of African American homiletical theories. Portraying the many approaches that are empowering preaching in African American churches today, Bond shows how different theological perspectives produce different methods of sermon preparation and delivery, different strategies for selecting illustrative material, and even different ways of beginning and ending sermons. Her goal is not to lift up the "right way" to preach in the African American tradition, but to show the richness and nuance contained within this powerful cultural expression.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Paul is one of the more interesting and least understood characters in history--quite bluntly, a man who changed history, not just of the Christian community but the Jewish community as well. Paul was a rising star in the Jewish culture and openly admits to being the chief persecutor and prosecuting those of this upstart movement. While applying the legal system within the Jewish culture to all those now anathema to the Jewish culture, he finds himself not just defending this new movement but laying the groundwork for the behavior, customs, and legality of the Christ movement and organization. Once a defender of the Jewish faith, he now becomes a greater and stauncher defender of the Christian faith, even to the point of death in martyrdom as a political prisoner--a prosecuting attorney within the Jewish legal system now working as the principal legal and, as the author claims, prime legal counsel for the new Ekklesia. His letters are not so much about theology but legality. He was born to have a foot in the Jewish legal system and a foot in the world's then dominating legal system, only to serve as the first legal counsel and attorney general of the coming new legal system, this is Paul the lawyer; this is Paul the covenant killer.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Power of the Anointing:The Burden Remover and Yoke Destroyerby Evangelist Virginia SuttonFinally, after eight years of praying, fasting, and warfare against the powers of darkness, it is finished: my first book about the anointing.I began to write on October 8, 2002, and finished June 16, 2010.To write about the anointing was not easy because Satan knows this is one sure weapon that will put him out of business: this is why he constantly tries to set traps for those that are sold out to GOD and are walking in the anointing that has been placed upon their lives. You see, the anointing is your divine spiritual authority in the spirit that has been delegated down to us from the Lord. Therefore, the anointing is GOD'S holy Power, Presence, and SPIRIT upon man/woman for the purpose of not only to live holy but to also tear down the kingdom of Satan and build up the kingdom of God.The anointing enables, enhances, and equips in order to whip the powers of darkness:Sinful yokes are destroyed because of the anointing; therefore, the devil is not alarmed over talent, which only pricks the emotions. However, he is alarmed over the anointing, which pricks the heart of man and causes him to cry out, "What must I do to be saved?"Acts 2:37-38Now when they heard this, they were pricked in their heart, and said unto Peter and to the rest of the apostles, Men and brethren, what shall we do?Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost.
