Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Grief comes into our lives like a thief. We are shocked, hurt, even bitter. The intensely personal experience may send us in a tailspin of emotions completely unexpected, always unwanted. The death of a child is perhaps one of the most grievous sorrows to bear. As an RN, I have attended many couples experiencing the death of their beloved child in the womb, or shortly after birth. I have witnessed, and shared the intense grief. We have a God who knows the number of hairs on our heads, calls the stars by name, and is aware of each sparrow that falls from the sky. This same God, is aware of each individual experience of grief and pain. God's compassion moved me to start a support group for grieving families, hoping to touch lives with His compassionate love. In this book you will find a compilation of scriptures, poems, notes, and quotes taken from the support group newsletter that I have written over the years. In times of grief, reading the words of others can help communicate the intense feelings of grief and loss and help us realize we are not alone.

  • Publisher : Oxford University Press
  • Release : 2017-07-03
  • ISBN : 0190668075
  • Pages : 265 pages

Download or read book Biography of a Yogi written by Anya P. Foxen and published by Oxford University Press. This book was released on 2017-07-03 with total page 265 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: With over four million copies in print, Paramahansa Yogananda's autobiography has served as a gateway into yoga and alternative spirituality for North American practitioners since 1946. Balancing traditional yoga, metaphysical spirituality, and a flair for the stage, Yogananda inspired countless people to practice Yogoda, his own brand of yoga. His method combined the spiritual and superhuman aspirations of Indian traditions with the health-oriented sensibilities of Western practice. Because the Yogoda program does not rely on recognizable postures and poses, it has remained under the radar of yoga scholarship. Biography of a Yogi examines Yogananda's career and Yogoda in the wider context of the development of yoga in the twentieth century. Focusing on Yogis during this early period of transnational popularization, Foxen highlights the continuities in the concept of the Yogi as superhuman and traces the transformation of yoga from a holistic and spiritual practice to its present-day postural practice.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: How long does it take to learn to handstand? Why exactly are handstands so popular? What are the benefits of learning to handstand? All of these questions have been thrown at acrobat Gabrielle Parker on a daily basis since she became a handstand teacher. It was time, she thought, to write them down. Joining forces with yoga teacher and writer Ash Bond, the two teachers approach this powerful pose from their two differing and complementary perspectives. In understanding the power of turning your world on its head and onto your hands this book explores mind-bogglingly beautiful art made by the humblest of circus souls, rockstar yogis baring all to teach people a lesson in loving themselves, yoga warriors who combat addictions with the high of being upside down and teachers in whose hands handstands are fonts of strength for those who need it most. Gabby and Ash would see that handstands have made careers, broken egos, crippled bodies, given people roots and even gifted some of the luckier ones wings. Filled with over 70 hand-drawn illustrations, The Handstanding Yogi is a comforting travel companion on your journey to a safe and successful inversion practice. It is also a fun memoir, charting the sometimes frustrating journey of getting on ones hands. It is unashamedly geeky and a little bit sweary, much like handstands themselves.

This book was released on 2021-05-01 with total page 140 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is a collection of reflections, prompts, tools, and practical exercises to support your self-discovery, mental, emotional, physical well-being and healing in a sustainable way. What You'll Find Inside: ✔ An introduction to the myths in our modern understanding of the chakra system and alternative ways of thinking ✔ 7 chapters based on the ancient wisdom of the chakras to anchor your reflections and healing in various topics like emotional awareness, confidence, or belonging ✔ Everyday challenges & exercises to widen your understanding of your yoga practice and integrate seamlessly into your daily life ✔ Illustrations by artist Katya Uspenkaya Author's Note From a very early age, I’ve felt like the world was spinning too fast. I was always playing catchup and going against my inner, natural pace. Yoga for me became a way to connect with my intuitive rhythm. It has taught me again and again about what it means to simply be, with myself and with the world around me. After a while, I started wondering if I could stay as present in everyday challenges and happenings as I was when I was moving and breathing in my asana practice. I’d started on a yoga mat but my practice never felt quite powerful enough to infiltrate all areas of my life. Why was it so difficult to say no to things I didn’t want to do when I’d been learning about that in my physical practice? Why would I not let myself “flow” in my creative projects as much as my breath during meditation? This book is part of my journey of discovering how yoga can truly be a practice of every day, every hour, every minute. It is a collection of my attempts at putting together building blocks of awareness, so I always find pockets of connection whether I’m sitting on a loud train, cooking a meal, or deep into my email inbox. I hope you find comfort and ways to cultivate confidence through these pages. May the reflections and practice build the freedom and intuition you need to let the wonderful practice of yoga take the shape it needs to serve you and your communities. With love and curiosity, Ely
