Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Froebel Letters: Edited With Explanatory Notes and Additional Matter And this Froebel enthusiasm is not transient. If you doubt its persistence, look at Frau Luise Froebel, the widow of the Kindergartener. Upwards of forty years have passed since her husband was taken away from her, yet the ardor of her enthusiasm has not cooled in the least. She continues as she was when walking by his side, a living piece of his own self, in whose soul we can recognize and study the soul of. Friedrich F rochel. I have no hesitation in saying that Frau Luise Froe bel is the spiritual creature of Friedrich Froebel. He made her what she is: he implanted in her those remarkable principles and traits of. Character that distinguish her and elevate her above the common crowd. There is in her a depth of perception, a wealth of sentiment, a loving and never withhold ing, never weakening sympathy for all that is good and elevating, - chiefly for such things as concern the development of the good and beautiful in man, such as we know to have characterized Froebel him self. For all which constitutes the real life and genius of Frau Froebel, she is indebted to his teaching and his influence. His genius pervades her as the creative spirit giving life to her soul. Book Finding Froebel

Download or read book Finding Froebel written by Helge Wasmuth and published by Bloomsbury Publishing. This book was released on 2023-12-14 with total page 273 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Friedrich Froebel, the 'father of kindergarten', is one of the most influential pedagogues of the 19th century. However, relatively little is known about his life, his successes and failures, and his personal relationships. Based on many untranslated and unknown letters, this new biography presents Froebel as a brilliant but also flawed man. Beginning with his childhood and the early death of his mother, as well as his difficult relationship with his father and stepmother, we see the early seeds of Froebel's interest in children and the training of early childhood practitioners. While Froebel lacked basic academic knowledge due to his poor early education, he was able to overcome these deficits and found an educational institute, and develop ground-breaking educational theories about play and pedagogy. He authored multiple books, including his most famous work The Education of Man. The focus of this book, though, is not on Froebel's educational theories but on his complicated relationships with his family, the Keilhau community, and the mother of one of his pupils, Caroline von Holzhausen, whom he called the “rune of his life”. After many personal and professional disappointments, Froebel finally came up with the idea that made him famous until today: kindergarten. In the last decade of his life, he became a salesman of this new idea and worked tirelessly for the establishment of the kindergarten movement. However, when the Prussian government banned kindergarten shortly before his death, Froebel was broken – even if kindergarten lives until today.

Book excerpt: Excerpt from Froebel's Letters on the Kindergarten Madame Froebel, in her deep reverence for her husband's memory, has regarded the publication of these letters as the most important work of her life which yet remained to be done. I I shall therefore conclude this Preface with some words which certainly came from the bottom of her heart, and which embody her dearest hope That it may be vouchsafed to us that these Letters, becoming known to wider and ever wider circles, may bring blessings to many children.
