Book Don t Give Your Heart to a Rambler

Download or read book Don t Give Your Heart to a Rambler written by Barbara Martin Stephens and published by University of Illinois Press. This book was released on 2017-07-14 with total page 323 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: As charismatic and gifted as he was volatile, Jimmy Martin recorded dozens of bluegrass classics and co-invented the high lonesome sound. Barbara Martin Stephens became involved with the King of Bluegrass at age seventeen. Don't Give your Heart to a Rambler tells the story of their often tumultuous life together. Barbara bore his children and took on a crucial job as his booking agent when the agent he was using failed to obtain show dates for the group. Female booking agents were non-existent at that time but she persevered and went on to become the first female booking agent on Music Row. She also endured years of physical and emotional abuse at Martin's hands. With courage and candor, Barbara tells of the suffering and traces the hard-won personal growth she found inside motherhood and her work. Her vivid account of Martin's explosive personality and torment over his exclusion from the Grand Ole Opry fill in the missing details on a career renowned for being stormy. Barbara also shares her own journey, one of good humor and proud achievements, and filled with fond and funny recollections of the music legends and ordinary people she met, befriended, and represented along the way. Straightforward and honest, Don't Give your Heart to a Rambler is a woman's story of the world of bluegrass and one of its most colorful, conflicted artists.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: From what Ive seen, the best parts of life are always permanently cemented by great moments, flashbacks, so to speak. If youve read the entire book, youd know that I have a lot of special moments in my life and theres even more that I couldnt work into the manuscript. With that being said, this book to me is not only a work of art, but its also a testament to me and my readers that I pride myself in squeezing the best out of life no matter what the situation. It gives a clear explanation of the choices and decisions I and my generation battle with on a regular basis, and it shows that Im willing to work as hard as I need to in order to accomplish my goals. Even when the solutions seem outside of the box, Ill do whatevers necessary to improve or maintain my living conditions. Whether it be for work or for playtime, Ive found out that if I dont put 100 percent into what Im doing, Ill never know how great my accomplishments could be. This book is one of the things in my life that Im most proud of. Through this book, I was able to explain how much friends and relationships in general can affect your life. This is what makes trusting God even more important. Ive had several times where Ive felt like I was in the wrong place or with the wrong people or with people that didnt really care as much as theyve led on. But through trusting God and finding some patience, life showed me that I was exactly where he wanted me to be. The love and loyalty my friends and family members have continually showed me is a true testament to that. If I wouldve given up on a few people that I thought about giving up on, I wouldve never known how great a particular relationship or two couldve turned out to be. So with that being said, my proudest accomplishment in this book is the fact that I have valued the people I was supposed to value the most and that they know Ive done everything in my power to shield them from lifes hard times as well. The funny part about me falling out with a few people I loved is that if I never had to feel alone, and these friends and family always protected me, I wouldve never known how strong I really was. Luckily for me, God put a lot of people in my life that were honest, intelligent, and sincere, and the bond that Ive shared with these people alone has made my life worthwhile. But through the trials and tribulations that rested solely on my shoulders, I was able to find my true inner strength. And from what Ive seen, Im a pretty strong individual! Still through all of the good and bad, looking at things from my friends and family members perspective, I was able to see the mistakes that I couldnt recognize; I was able to experiment with new ways to live my life better, and I was able to learn to appreciate the different thoughts and gifts that make us all special human beings. So to everyone that holds me down in Cleveland, Atlanta, and abroad, I sincerely love you and always will even after my death. Never forget that. Ive learned a lot about life in my brief twenty-eight years of existence, and I wish I could share everything Ive learned with everyone whos alive. And vice versa, I also wish everyone else could share their learning experiences with me. I think we all have things to teach each other. When youre able to somehow connect the different struggles and paths of totally different people, you can see that our differences are what let us connect the dots, so to speak. In other words, our differences help us learn more about each other and more about life. As a people, I dont think we embrace our differences too well, and thats something we all need to work on as a whole. Unfortunately, we cant undo our past mistakes, but we can take one day at a time to perfect our way of life. I hope that one day, we all can perfect our lives to a level that makes God happy and, at the same time, helps us live life to the fullest. Because certain Christians try to pressure certain beli

Book excerpt: Trust is not high on straight-talking rancher Dan Jarrett's list. He doesn't believe there are many people worthy of it. Case-in-point: his new stepfather. His widowed mother says it was love at first sight, but Dan is convinced the man is a con artist spending his mother's nest egg. And the only reason Dan's going on the family holiday cruise is to gain time to prove his suspicions. After losing both of her parents to cancer, E.R. nurse Sunny Elders cherishes any time she can spend with the loved ones she has left-her sister's family. Relaxing together on a cruise filled with love and laughter sounds like the perfect prescription for healing. And Sunny's unsinkable spirit and her maddening penchant for zany disasters provide an ample dose of both. Collision Course. Troubles Waters Ahead! Rancher Dan Jarrett, a true stickler for tradition, doesn't believe in the love-at-first sight bug that bit his widowed mom. In fact, he's sure the man she met and married on a seniors' cruise is a fraud, out to break her bankbook and her heart. Dan's mission? Endure a family holiday cruise till he gets enough proof to expose his stepfather for the scoundrel he is. But will his plans go aground when he bumps headlong into a "walking accident-waiting-to-happen" with an infectious smile? Nurse Fix-It to the Rescue! Sunny Elders is determined. True, being paired with Dan Jarrett-time after time after time-might result in disaster, but it's no coincidnece. The recent loss of her parents and her nurse's training make it impossible to ignore the obvious: This bull-headed cowpoke and his folks need help. Enter Sunny, a woman with a mission. But can she set Dan's Stetson on straight without tripping over her heart? One thing is certain: Before this hilarious high-sea adventure is over, these two stubborn hearts will hit the unfamiliar waters of trust - trust in each other and in the One who orders our steps, who knows better than we ever could exactly what - and who - we need to be whole.

Book Every Day of My Life

Download or read book Every Day of My Life written by Beeb Birtles and published by Brolga Publishing. This book was released on 2018-11-01 with total page 289 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is the first book by a founding member of Little River Band: the first Australian band to achieve a gold album in the US. 'Every Day of My Life' tells the remarkable tale of how Beeb Birtles, David Briggs, Graeham Goble, George McArdle, Derek Pellicci and Glenn Shorrock conquered the world - and then lost their band. The book also documents how a young Dutch boy named Gerard Bertelkamp arrived in Adelaide, unable to speak English, and ended up in not one but two major bands: Zoot (with Darryl Cotton and Rick Springfield) and Little River Band (with Glenn Shorrock and later John Farnham). As the title suggests, Every Day of My Life is an intensely personal journey. Beeb Birtles might have lost his band but he discovered many other things along the way. LRB's hits include 'Reminiscing', 'Help Is On Its Way', 'Lonesome Loser', 'The Night Owls', 'It's a Long Way There', 'Cool Change', 'Happy Anniversary', 'Lady', 'Curiosity (Killed the Cat)', 'Witchery', and 'Every Day of My Life'. Due to a bizarre copyright case, Beeb Birtles can no longer make music as Little River Band. But he can tell their incredible story - and his own incredible story.
