Download or read book Frequency Spectrum of Optical Waves Propagating in a Moving Turbulent Atmosphere written by Ronald Louis Fante and published by . This book was released on 1974 with total page 24 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The authors have calculated the frequency spectrum of plane waves and beams propagating in a moving turbulent atmosphere. Both the case when the atmosphere moves with a constant wind and the case when the wind velocity is distributed according to a gaussian centered about some average velocity is considered. The results indicate that for small propagation distances, the frequency spectrum behaves as omega sup -8/3 for large frequency, omega; for large propagation distances, the spectrum is broadened with increasing distance-with the broadening dependent upon the beam parameters and the wind velocity. This book was released on 1974 with total page 28 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Numerical results have been obtained for the effect of the strength of turbulence on the intensity, mutual coherence function, and frequency spectrum of a focussed beam propagating in a random medium having a von Karman spectrum for the index of refraction fluctuations. The author has presented conditions for when the turbulence affects the nature of the beam and has demonstrated the validity of these conditions by comparison with the numerical results. (Author).

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The most recent developments on the propagation of microwave and optical beams in turbulent media, such as the clear atmosphere are discussed. Among the phenomena considered are beam spreading, beam wander, loss of coherence, scintillations, angle-of-arrival variations, and short pulse effects. Also included is a discussion of methods of compensation of the effect of turbulence on communications and imaging systems.

Download or read book Advances In Wave Turbulence written by Victor Shrira and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 2013-05-10 with total page 294 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Wave or weak turbulence is a branch of science concerned with the evolution of random wave fields of all kinds and on all scales, from waves in galaxies to capillary waves on water surface, from waves in nonlinear optics to quantum fluids. In spite of the enormous diversity of wave fields in nature, there is a common conceptual and mathematical core which allows to describe the processes of random wave interactions within the same conceptual paradigm, and in the same language. The development of this core and its links with the applications is the essence of wave turbulence science (WT) which is an established integral part of nonlinear science. The book comprising seven reviews aims at discussing new challenges in WT and perspectives of its development. A special emphasis is made upon the links between the theory and experiment. Each of the reviews is devoted to a particular field of application (there is no overlap), or a novel approach or idea. The reviews cover a variety of applications of WT, including water waves, optical fibers, WT experiments on a metal plate and observations of astrophysical WT.

Download or read book Wave Propagation and Scattering in Random Media written by Akira Ishimaru and published by Academic Press. This book was released on 2013-10-22 with total page 343 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Wave Propagation and Scattering in Random Media, Volume 2, presents the fundamental formulations of wave propagation and scattering in random media in a unified and systematic manner. The topics covered in this book may be grouped into three categories: waves in random scatterers, waves in random continua, and rough surface scattering. Random scatterers are random distributions of many particles. Examples are rain, fog, smog, hail, ocean particles, red blood cells, polymers, and other particles in a state of Brownian motion. Random continua are the media whose characteristics vary randomly and continuously in time and space. Examples are clear air turbulence, jet engine exhaust, tropospheric and ionospheric turbulence, ocean turbulence, and biological media such as tissue and muscle. Rough surface examples are the ocean surface, planetary surfaces, interfaces between different biological media, and the surface roughness of an optical fiber. This book is intended for engineers and scientists interested in optical, acoustic, and microwave propagation and scattering in atmospheres, oceans, and biological media, and particularly for those involved in communication through such media and remote sensing of the characteristics of these media.
Download or read book Handbook of Radio and Optical Networks Convergence written by Tetsuya Kawanishi and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2024-11-04 with total page 1711 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This handbook provides comprehensive knowledge on device and system technologies for seamlessly integrated networks of various types of transmission media such as optical fibers and millimeter and THz waves to offer super high-speed data link service everywhere. The seamless integration of the knowledge of radio and optical technologies is needed to construct wired and wireless seamless networks. High-frequency bands such as millimeter-wave and THz-wave bands where super wideband spectra are available can offer high-speed data transmission and high-resolution sensing. However, the expected coverage is limited due to large wave propagation loss. Thus, convergence of radio and optical links is indispensable to construct worldwide networks. The radio and optical technologies share the same physics and are closely related to each other but have been developed independently. Therefore, there is a big gap between these two fields. Bridging the two fields, this handbook is also intended as a common platform to design integrated networks consisting of wireless and wired links. Full coverage of wireless and wired convergence fields ranging from basics of device and transmission media to applications allows the reader to efficiently access all the important references in this single handbook. Further, it also showcases state-of-the-art technology and cases of its use.
