Book Demodulation of Frequency Or Space Modulated Light

Download or read book Demodulation of Frequency Or Space Modulated Light written by Stanford University. Stanford Electronics Laboratories and published by . This book was released on 1965 with total page 214 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The generation and detection of a light beam which is deflected back and forth at a microwave rate in accordance with frequency modulation on the beam is considered. Deflection was achieved by sending the frequency modulated light through a dispersing element. The detection system consisted of a photocathode which emitted a transversely modulated electron beam into a transverse-field interaction circuit. General analyses were developed for the dispersion and electron beam-circuit interaction systems. The applicability of the instantaneous-frequency viewpoint was explored in detail, and a new condition for the validity of this viewpoint was derived. Phototube design procedures were formulated. Experiments demonstrated the dispersion and interaction mechanisms, including an unforeseen effect involving partial interception of the deflected light beam. The experiments supported the detailed theoretical analyses. An examination of the basic noise limitation revealed a significant advantage over certain other FM light detection systems. As optical modulation techniques improve, it is expected that this approach may represent a superior means of detection in optical communications systems. (Author).

Download or read book FM Transmission and Reception written by John Rider and published by Createspace Independent Publishing Platform. This book was released on 2016-12-25 with total page 432 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Frequency Modulation (FM) is important in today's radio world. If you repair radios or just have an interest in learning more about FM, this book is just what you need. It covers the basic principles underlying the operation of f-m transmitters and receivers, embracing information on both direct and indirect f-m (p-m). To ensure you are provided with complete information, this book covers both transmitting and receiving antennas, the various types of receivers, and their functioning and servicing. Presented in two parts, this book first discusses transmission of the f-m signal then its reception. Part I covers basic theory of f.m. and p.m., the propagation of f-m signals, the basic characteristics of f-m transmitters and an analysis of f-m transmitters that were available as of the late 1940's. Part I closes with a discussion of the latest (as of the late 1940's) in transmitting antennas. Part II deals with f-m receiving antennas and the f-m receiver, which takes into account every individual stage relative to f.m. and compares them to a-m sets. In the late 1940's, four different types of f-m detectors were in use: the limiter-discriminator type, the ratio detector, the oscillator detector (locked-in oscillator), and the FreModyne detector, all four of which are discussed in detail. The last two chapters are devoted to the alignment and the servicing of receivers. There is an appendix that provides some data on the use of vectors and other pertinent information of value. Mathematics are kept to the necessary minimum, and many illustrations are available to provide a clearer picture of the whole topic. In addition and for those who may be interested, chapter 10 covers F.M. in television receivers because the sound transmitters in TVs of those days were very similar to those used in regular f-m broadcasting. The appendix provide additional information about vectors, powers of ten, single-tube F-M converter, ground wave signal range, and more. A detailed references list of books and articles is also included in the event you wish to conduct further research on f-m transmission and reception.

Book Optimum Detection of a Randomly Frequency Modulated Carrier

Download or read book Optimum Detection of a Randomly Frequency Modulated Carrier written by Albert H. Nuttall and published by . This book was released on 1979 with total page 137 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The logarithm of the likelihood ratio for detection of a frequency-modulated signal tone, received in the presence of white Gaussian noise, is derived and expressed in the form of an infinite Volterra series. The amplitude of the received signal tone and the received noise power density level are presumed known; the additive phase shift is uniformly distributed; and the frequency-modulating process is Gaussian, with a spectrum such that no carrier tone remains in the frequency-modulated signal spectrum. This is called a fully-random signal herein. When the time-bandwidth product (of observation time and signal bandwidth) is large enough, and there is at least a moderate amount of frequency modulation, the optimum processor is well-approximated by a filter followed by an energy detector; the filter passband is that of the spectrum of the received signal. The frequency modulation is termed moderate when the ratio of the RMS frequency deviation to the equivalent bandwidth of the frequency-modulating process is of the order of 2-3. Numerous approximations have been necessary to facilitate evaluation of some of the multiple integrals; to what degree the sufficient conditions cited above can be relaxed, without violating the conclusions, is unknown.
