Book Frequency Doubled Mode Locked Nd YAG Laser

Download or read book Frequency Doubled Mode Locked Nd YAG Laser written by Arnold R. Clobes and published by . This book was released on 1972 with total page 80 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The objective of the work reported herein is to achieve stable mode-locked, second harmonic power output from a Nd:YAG laser. Particular emphasis is placed on amplitude stability and on conversion efficiency. The experimental results of this program are 200 mW of 0.53 micron mode-locked power output at a PRF of 500 MHz. The amplitude fluctuations are + or - 4%. The intracavity barium sodium niobate crystal, used as both the second harmonic generator and mode-lock modulator, was driven at 250 MHz. Stability control techniques successfully demonstrated include: (1) cladding of the laser rod; (2) amplitude equalization of the output pulse train; (3) maintaining the relative frequency difference between the modulator drive and the cavity c/2L frequency within narrow limits by use of a phase-lock loop; (4) series regulation of the lamp current and the use of ballast resistors; and (5) maintaining the nonlinear crystal at the phase-match temperature by closed-loop control of the oven temperature. Thermal effects in the banana crystal arising from absorption of the fundamental wavelength radiation were found to limit the amplitude stability of the laser output. The same effects distort the 0.53 micron far-field beam profile and reduce the conversion efficiency.

Book Tunable Solid State Lasers for Remote Sensing

Download or read book Tunable Solid State Lasers for Remote Sensing written by Robert L. Byer and published by Springer. This book was released on 2013-06-29 with total page 164 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Workshop on Tunable Solid State Lasers for Remote Sensing was held at Stanford University in October 1984 to assess the state of the art in tunable solid state lasers for remote sensing from satellite platforms. The value of conducting global remote sensing measurements of atmospheric chemistry, climate, and weather in the 1990s is now established. What is not yet defined, however, is the status of the developing tunable laser technology that must meet both the scientific requirements and the space platform constraints. This workshop was convened by the Office of Aeronautics and Space Technology (OAST) of the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) to assess the status and progress in tunable solid state laser sources for remote sensing. The workshop was organized to facilitate information exchange across a number of technologies from remote sensing requirements to crystal growth of the materials important for the development of the tunable laser sources. The emphasis was on the recent developments in tunable solid state laser sources necessary to meet the future transmitter requirements for global remote sensing. A goal of the workshop was to form recommendations to NASA on the current and future prospects for solid state laser technology that will allow remote sensing measurements from air, shuttle, and free-flying satellite platforms. The emphasis was on solid state laser sources because they offer the best potential for meeting the demanding requirements of compact size, good efficiency, and long operational lifetimes required for future space station and free-flying platform operation.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Ultrasound is an energy source that has the potential for enhancing many stages of experimental analysis, but analytical chemists generally have limited knowledge of this technique. Analytical Applications of Ultrasound lays the foundations for practicing analytical chemists to consider ways of exploiting ultrasound energy in their research. This timely and unique book covers a broad range of information about ultrasound, providing advances in ultrasound equipment and demonstrations of how this energy has been used to enhance various steps of analysis. Given the limited literature on analytical applications of ultrasound, the authors provide information from other sources that suggest ways in which we can use it in the analytical laboratory. The authors discuss the principles of ultrasound and the variables we must consider in adapting ultrasound to different problems. * Presents an up-to-date, balanced description of the potential of Ultrasound within Analytical Chemistry* Discusses ultrasound-based detection techniques in a systematic manner* Provides an overview of potential applications of ultrasound in a variety of different fields
