Book The Language of Museum Communication

Download or read book The Language of Museum Communication written by Cecilia Lazzeretti and published by Springer. This book was released on 2016-09-08 with total page 281 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume explores the evolution of the language of museum communication from 1950 to the present day, focusing on its most salient tool, the press release. The analysis is based on a corpus of press releases issued by eight high-profile British and American museums, and has been carried out adopting corpus linguistics and genre analysis methodologies. After identifying the typical features of the museum press release, new media more recently adopted by museums, such as web presentations, blogs, e-news, and social media, are taken into consideration, exploring questions such as how has the language of museum communication changed in order to face the challenge posed by new technologies? Are museum press releases threatened by new approaches used in contemporary public relations? Are the typical press release features still detectable in new genres? Drawing on insights from linguistics, discourse analysis, and museum communication this book will be of great value to researchers and practitioners of applied linguistics, sociolinguistics, and museum communication scholars.

Book Nanowire Field Effect Transistors Principles and Applications

Download or read book Nanowire Field Effect Transistors Principles and Applications written by Dae Mann Kim and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-10-23 with total page 292 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: “Nanowire Field Effect Transistor: Basic Principles and Applications” places an emphasis on the application aspects of nanowire field effect transistors (NWFET). Device physics and electronics are discussed in a compact manner, together with the p-n junction diode and MOSFET, the former as an essential element in NWFET and the latter as a general background of the FET. During this discussion, the photo-diode, solar cell, LED, LD, DRAM, flash EEPROM and sensors are highlighted to pave the way for similar applications of NWFET. Modeling is discussed in close analogy and comparison with MOSFETs. Contributors focus on processing, electrostatic discharge (ESD) and application of NWFET. This includes coverage of solar and memory cells, biological and chemical sensors, displays and atomic scale light emitting diodes. Appropriate for scientists and engineers interested in acquiring a working knowledge of NWFET as well as graduate students specializing in this subject.

Book Debris Control Structures Evaluation and Countermeasures

Download or read book Debris Control Structures Evaluation and Countermeasures written by U.s. Department of Transportation and published by Createspace Independent Pub. This book was released on 2015-03-01 with total page 182 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Debris accumulation at culvert and bridge structures openings is a widespread problem. The accumulation of debris at inlets of highway culverts and bridge structures is a frequent cause of unsatisfactory performance and malfunction. This accumulation may result in erosion at culvert entrances, overtopping and failure of roadway embankments and damage to adjacent properties, increased local scour at piers and/or abutments, and the formation of pressure flow scour. Consideration of debris accumulations and the need for debris-control structures should be an essential part of the design of all drainage structures. Structural and non-structural measures have been used effectively to prevent or reduce the size of debris accumulations at bridges and culverts. Structural measures can include features that: (a) intercept debris at or upstream of a structure inlet; (b) deflect debris near the inlet; or (c) orient the debris to facilitate passage of the debris through the structure. Non-structural measures include management of the upstream watershed and maintenance. This publication provides measures for both culvert and bridge structures. The measures available for culverts are based on the information included in earlier editions of this manual. Selection of a certain debris countermeasure depends upon the size, quantity, and type of debris, the potential hazard to life and property, the costs involved, and the maintenance proposed.

Book Museum Marketing

Download or read book Museum Marketing written by Ruth Rentschler and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2009-11-04 with total page 288 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Museums have moved from a product to a marketing focus within the last ten years. This has entailed a painful reorientation of approaches to understanding visitors as ‘customers’; new ways of fundraising and sponsorship as government funding decreases; and grappling with using the internet for marketing. This book brings the latest in marketing thinking to bear on the museum sector taking into account both the commercial issues and social mission it involves. Carefully structured to be highly accessible the book offers: * A contemporary and relevant and global approach to museum marketing written by authors in Britain, Australia, the United States, and Asia * An approach that reflects the particular challenges museums of varying sizes face when seeking to market an experience to a diverse set of stakeholders: audience; funders; sponsors and government. * A particular focus on museum marketing in the 'Information Age' * Major case studies at the beginning and end of each section of the book, and smaller case studies within chapters The hugely experienced author team, includes both leading academics and practitioners to ensure the book has broad appeal and is both relevant, innovative and progressive in approach. It will be essential reading for students in museum studies, non-profit marketing, and arts management and marketing. It will also be equally relevant for professionals working in and managing museums and galleries, heritage attractions and ministries of arts.
