Book The Fevered Novel from Balzac to Bernanos

Download or read book The Fevered Novel from Balzac to Bernanos written by Francesco Manzini and published by Igrs, University of London. This book was released on 2011 with total page 264 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book examines a corpus of frenetic novels - by Balzac, Barbey d'Aurevilly, Zola, Huysmans, Bloy and Bernanos - that foreground the motif of fever within a recurring master plot: a pious young woman, just discovering her sexuality, finds herself torn between two father-figures, a doctor (typically a blood-relative, often the biological father) and a priest (the spiritual father). She contracts a disease of uncertain origin, made manifest by a series of fevers that require interpretation in the light of contemporary religious, medical and literary discourses. Manzini traces the motifs of fever and frenzy back to Rousseau, the Gothic novel and Frenetic Romanticism, as well as forward to their recuperation within Surrealism, in order to produce an original history of Frenetic Catholicism in the age of realism. Francesco Manzini is a Stipendiary Lecturer in French at Christ Church, Oxford, and is the author of Stendhal's Parallel Lives (2004). He has also published numerous articles on nineteenth-century French literature.

Book British Policy Making and the Need for a Post Brexit Policy Style

Download or read book British Policy Making and the Need for a Post Brexit Policy Style written by Jeremy Richardson and published by Springer. This book was released on 2018-04-25 with total page 83 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book revisits and re-defines the policy style concept and explores the long-standing debate in British political science concerning how best to characterise the British policy style. The book highlights several trends that suggest that the British policy style has shifted towards the impositional end of the policy style spectrum, bringing it more in line with the traditional Westminster model of governing. However, these changes also reflect a more frenetic policy style which might increase the number of policy blunders and failures in British Government unless means are found to access and manage the specialist expertise that interest groups possess.

Book From Genesis to Revelation

Download or read book From Genesis to Revelation written by Stuart Tillman and published by Balboa Press. This book was released on 2022-12-27 with total page 248 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: From Genesis to Revelation: A Story You Find Yourself In is a book about the journey of the soul and how it's reflected in the esoteric Bible. The book is written as an allegory by animating characters found in the creation and together serve as our hosts during this earthly sojourn. It’s through the unbiased observations made by these characters that we come to better understand ourselves and the purpose of this incarnation. The quality of our relationship with the creation and with other human’s is solely dependent upon the quality of the relationship that we have with our inner man. Becoming aware of awareness is the beginning of this understanding and is perfected through the process of internal observation. The book recognizes that humanity is stressing the creations integrity and its ability to maintain a proper ecosystem in support of our human experience. In response, the creation determines that something must be done, concluding that acquiring a thorough understanding the nature of man’s inner and collective psyche as the first order of business. In this process of discovery, the creation explores the contrasts between the practices of religion and the pursuits of spirituality, while endeavoring to correlate its findings with the symbolisms found in the Bible. What they discover is a revelatory paradox, as their findings suggest that these human practices and pursuits do not align with the spiritual meaning hidden in these sacred texts. The journey of humanity is a story you find yourself in and the only way forward is for each of us to come into a reconciliation with our dual natures. I hope this book can help in that cause as the answers are found within, from Genesis to Revelation.

Annette, the greengrocer across the street, sees an opportunity to hawk her own family favourite: Belgian-style fried potatoes. “Piping hot chips!”/So crisp, so delish”, she calls. And they’re a hit too. The competition between Joseph and Annette heats up as they try to outsell each other at the market. And then one day… crash! The two collide. Chips slip. Fish fly.
