Book French Intonation Exercises Classic Reprint

Download or read book French Intonation Exercises Classic Reprint written by H. Klinghardt and published by . This book was released on 2015-07-20 with total page 136 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from French Intonation Exercises The idea of adapting the "Franzosische Intonationsubungen" of H. Klinghardt and M. de Fourmestraux for English-speaking teachers and students first occurred to me when I was demonstrating Professor Klinghardt's method at the Summer Vacation Courses for teachers of French, held at Durham in 1918 and 1920, under the auspices of the Board of Education. The teaching of intonation seemed to be a new problem for most of the teachers, but the simplicity and practicability of Professor Klinghardt's method kindled their enthusiasm, and many urgent enquiries were made as to how and where his book could be obtained. Great disappointment was expressed when it was learned that the book was published in Germany, and that the Introduction and Notes were written in German for German teachers of French. Repeated requests for an English edition for English teachers followed, and this book is the outcome of those requests. It is hoped that it will supply a want, and that it will meet the needs of teachers for purposes of private study and also for use as a class-book. Experience has shown that where pupils have been taught French intonation systematically, there has been a marked increase in the efficiency of the oral work, and several of H.M. Inspectors have paid tribute to the often surprisingly good results thus obtained. Efficient oral work implies the teaching of two things-the correct sounds and tones. As Mr. Harold Palmer says in his excellent book on English Intonation} "the two things, pronunciation and intonation, are so bound up with each other that it is futile to teach or to learn one without the other." Book excerpt: Excerpt from Beginning French Exercises in Pronouncing, Spelling and Translating, With a Vocabulary of Familiar Words and a Collection of Easy Phrases and Dialogues, in French and English This book is intended to be progressive. If the efforts to make it so have been successful, those who use it thoroughly will never find themselves called upon to begin any lesson before the way to it has been prepared; while those who neglect one of the lessons will be apt to find something lacking to their comprehension of lessons further on. Book Human Behavior in Military Contexts

Download or read book Human Behavior in Military Contexts written by National Research Council and published by National Academies Press. This book was released on 2008-02-03 with total page 250 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Human behavior forms the nucleus of military effectiveness. Humans operating in the complex military system must possess the knowledge, skills, abilities, aptitudes, and temperament to perform their roles effectively in a reliable and predictable manner, and effective military management requires understanding of how these qualities can be best provided and assessed. Scientific research in this area is critical to understanding leadership, training and other personnel issues, social interactions and organizational structures within the military. The U.S. Army Research Institute for the Behavioral and Social Sciences (ARI) asked the National Research Council to provide an agenda for basic behavioral and social research focused on applications in both the short and long-term. The committee responded by recommending six areas of research on the basis of their relevance, potential impact, and timeliness for military needs: intercultural competence; teams in complex environments; technology-based training; nonverbal behavior; emotion; and behavioral neurophysiology. The committee suggests doubling the current budget for basic research for the behavioral and social sciences across U.S. military research agencies. The additional funds can support approximately 40 new projects per year across the committee's recommended research areas. Human Behavior in Military Contexts includes committee reports and papers that demonstrate areas of stimulating, ongoing research in the behavioral and social sciences that can enrich the military's ability to recruit, train, and enhance the performance of its personnel, both organizationally and in its many roles in other cultures.

On a daily basis we face deeply ingrained beliefs that our sex determines our skills and preferences, from toys and colours to career choice and salaries. But what does this mean for our thoughts, decisions and behaviour? Using the latest cutting-edge neuroscience, Gina Rippon unpacks the stereotypes that bombard us from our earliest moments and shows how these messages mould our ideas of ourselves and even shape our brains. Rigorous, timely and liberating, The Gendered Brainhas huge repercussions for women and men, for parents and children, and for how we identify ourselves. 'Highly accessible... Revolutionary to a glorious degree' Observer
