Book French Intonation Exercises Classic Reprint

Download or read book French Intonation Exercises Classic Reprint written by H. Klinghardt and published by . This book was released on 2015-07-20 with total page 136 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from French Intonation Exercises The idea of adapting the "Franzosische Intonationsubungen" of H. Klinghardt and M. de Fourmestraux for English-speaking teachers and students first occurred to me when I was demonstrating Professor Klinghardt's method at the Summer Vacation Courses for teachers of French, held at Durham in 1918 and 1920, under the auspices of the Board of Education. The teaching of intonation seemed to be a new problem for most of the teachers, but the simplicity and practicability of Professor Klinghardt's method kindled their enthusiasm, and many urgent enquiries were made as to how and where his book could be obtained. Great disappointment was expressed when it was learned that the book was published in Germany, and that the Introduction and Notes were written in German for German teachers of French. Repeated requests for an English edition for English teachers followed, and this book is the outcome of those requests. It is hoped that it will supply a want, and that it will meet the needs of teachers for purposes of private study and also for use as a class-book. Experience has shown that where pupils have been taught French intonation systematically, there has been a marked increase in the efficiency of the oral work, and several of H.M. Inspectors have paid tribute to the often surprisingly good results thus obtained. Efficient oral work implies the teaching of two things-the correct sounds and tones. As Mr. Harold Palmer says in his excellent book on English Intonation} "the two things, pronunciation and intonation, are so bound up with each other that it is futile to teach or to learn one without the other." Book excerpt: Excerpt from Beginning French Exercises in Pronouncing, Spelling and Translating, With a Vocabulary of Familiar Words and a Collection of Easy Phrases and Dialogues, in French and English This book is intended to be progressive. If the efforts to make it so have been successful, those who use it thoroughly will never find themselves called upon to begin any lesson before the way to it has been prepared; while those who neglect one of the lessons will be apt to find something lacking to their comprehension of lessons further on. Book French Speech and Spelling

Download or read book French Speech and Spelling written by S. A. Richards and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2018-02-25 with total page 74 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from French Speech and Spelling: A First Guide to French Pronunciation A number of exercises have been added for purposes of revision and to stimulate the pupils to apply their knowledge. In recent years much progress has been made in the application of phonetics to modern language teaching, and there are now many classes in which the pupils acquire the foreign pronunciation by the aid of the symbols of the Association Phonétique Internationale. These were first used in England in 1898, in Dent's First French Book; at the present day they are to be found in almost every French course, and also in books for the teaching of English, German, Spanish, and Latin. The number of teachers who rely on imitation only is decreasing, and the results obtained are steadily becoming more satisfactory. It is with the conviction that Mr Richards' little book will be found a real help to this end that I recommend it to the notice of teachers. It aims to help the student to acquire a more accurate pronunciation. There already exist a number of excellent books on French pronunciation, most of which however are intended for advanced students and emphasize the theory. On the other hand the few lines devoted to pronunciation in most French grammars are entirely inadequate. Book An Introduction to the Pronunciation of French Classic Reprint

Download or read book An Introduction to the Pronunciation of French Classic Reprint written by Philip H. Churchman and published by . This book was released on 2015-07-03 with total page 90 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from An Introduction to the Pronunciation of French There is surely no need to convince intelligent American teachers of the deplorable lack of ability to pronounce the French language in our school and college classes. But, when the defects of an old method have become apparent, and a scientific but practical system stands ready to take its place, it is certainly time to expect a change for the better. According to the old plan of teaching pronunciation, the student first learned what the French sounds are "like in English," and with these half-truths in mind was sent floundering through chance selections of the text nearest at hand; system, scientific analysis, and prepared exercises were completely lacking. The new method, though scientific, can be made eminently practical, and need never be technical. It aims to present a rational explanation of the phenomena of phonetics ("the science of articulate sound"), rules for the proper production of the sounds of the language, and graded exercises to train the vocal organs. Surely it would seem wiser to spend the early months of one's work in the language learning these things and repeating carefully prepared exercises, than in blundering through pages of unpronounceable French. This book was released on 2017-10-27 with total page 272 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Elements of French Pronunciation and Diction The present volume is the outcome of earnest study and considerable experience. Mr Damville derived much help from M. Passy and M. Ziind Burguet at Paris, and since his return he has been engaged in very successful work at a pupil teachers' centre and elsewhere. His book will be found emin ently practical. It will serve those who wish to acquire some knowledge of the spoken language before visiting France. Many still seem indifterent to the fact that the more they know beforehand, the more rapid will be their progress in the foreign country. Their ear is trained, so that they follow more readily What is said their tongue and lips are trained, so that they can more easily form new habits of articulation. Teachers will find many useful hints, enabling them to help them pupils over the difficulties which French pronunciation undoubtedly presents to the English child. Their attention may be drawn particularly to the valuable collection of sentences for exercise in uttering various French sounds, the peculiar features of Which are fully dis cussed in the preceding pages, where the comparison with English is in many cases made quite clear by means of diagrams. Some of these are purposely simplified they lend themselves to reproduction on the blackboard. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books.
