Book The Esoteric Tarot

Download or read book The Esoteric Tarot written by Ronald Decker and published by Quest Books. This book was released on 2013-07-15 with total page 344 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: That the Tarot originated in ancient Egypt as a divinatory tool is a romantic misconception. Ron Decker’s meticulous scholarship will surprise practitioners and academics alike, revealing the Tarot’s true evolution and meanings as its inventor(s) understood it. The Tarot consists of the Minor Arcana, four suits of cards similar to our modern deck, and the Major Arcana, twenty-two allegorical or “trump” cards. Decker says the four-suit deck was invented in Asia Minor before AD 1000; Italian courtiers added the trumps in the 1400s. But Tarot was first used as a game. Tarot divination was only created in the 1700s by a Parisian fortuneteller who based the trump images on Hermeticism, which merges Greco-Egyptian alchemy, astrology, numerology, magic, and mysticism. Today, the suit-cards are often traced to the ancient Jewish Cabala. But, says Decker, they, too, acquired their meanings only in the 1700s, and he cites a lost numerical system based on Cabala at that time Decker’s interpretation integrates three whole systems-astrological, arithmological, mystagogical (concerning initiation rites into the Mysteries). His depth of knowledge makes the book a must-have for serious students of Tarot and esotericism

Book Mystical Origins of the Tarot

Download or read book Mystical Origins of the Tarot written by Paul Huson and published by Inner Traditions / Bear & Co. This book was released on 2004-05-26 with total page 358 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "A profusely illustrated history of the occult nature of the tarot from its origins in ancient Persia. The origins of the tarot have been lost in the mists of time. Most scholars have guessed that its origins were in China, Egypt, or India. Huson has expertly tracked each symbol of the Minor Arcana to roots in ancient Persia and the Major Arcana Trump card images to the medieval world of mystery, miracle, and morality plays. A number of tarot historians have questioned the use of the tarot as a divination tool prior to the 18th century. But the author demonstrates that the symbolic meanings of the Major Arcana were evident from the time they were first employed in the mid-15th century in the popular divination practice of sortilege. He also reveals how the identities of the court cards in the Minor Arcana were derived from a blend of pagan and medieval sources that strongly influenced their interpretation in tarot divination."--Publisher marketing.

Book Throwing Bones Crystals Stones and Curios

Download or read book Throwing Bones Crystals Stones and Curios written by Mystic Dylan and published by Red Wheel/Weiser. This book was released on 2024-04-08 with total page 130 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Use the incredible power of bones, crystals, and curios as divinatory tools to develop a deeper understanding of your abilities, your relationships, and your future. The casting of bones and other objects for divination has been part of many cultural traditions for millennia. When we think of bones, we usually think of animal or human skeletal remains. However, in divination practice, the word "bones" refers to all the elements that are cultivated in your own "bone-throwing kit." While most of the items will be natural, such as bones, shells, roots, and crystals, a kit may also include other baubles and trinkets--a dice, coins, a key. Creating your own bone-throwing kit allows you to build a connection to the bones you wish to include in your arsenal and create a definitive divination system based on your personal practice. This beautifully illustrated book includes everything you need to start "throwing bones" and divining the answers to any questions you have about the future or gaining inspiration for how to work with current situations. In it you will find: Advice and suggestions for creating your own set of "bones" 20 unique casting boards with full instructions on how to use them when addressing different sorts of questions Other related methods of divination, including crystal divination--such as crystal scrying--and pendulum dowsing The large, square format and layflat binding make the book uniquely practical.

Book A French Method of Fortune Telling by Cards

Download or read book A French Method of Fortune Telling by Cards written by Arthur Edward Waite and published by . This book was released on 2017-11-05 with total page 50 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: THE methods of divination by cards are sufficiently numerous in France, as they are in other countries, including England. Our own, however, are chiefly of continental origin, while, so far as it is possible to speak with any positive opinion upon so dubious and involved a question, it would appear that the French systems are largely particular to themselves, subject of course to the fact that proceeding in all cases on certain general principles, to that extent they may be said to derive from one another, or at least from a common root. I have selected for inclusion one system which -- although it first came into notice at the beginning of the nineteenth century -- is likely to be new to my readers. It is worked with a piquet set of ordinary playing cards, which, as most people will know, consists of the usual picture-pieces and the ace, 10, 9, 8 and 7 of each suit, excluding the lower numbers. The method has appeared, I believe, under more than one auspice, but the imputed author termed himself an Egyptian and claimed to publish his little treatise at Memphis, which, however, stands for Paris. It is not a very full method and is not free from confusions as itwas first issued. In the form which here follows it has been so far rectified and extended from other French sources that it will, I think, serve the purpose as an alternative to the English system given in the previous section. I must explain, however, that those who intend to make use of it should obtain, if possible, a set of French or Swiss cards, in which the picture-pieces appear at full length, instead of with a head at either end, and all the numbers are marked Droit and Renverse at their opposing poles, meaning right side up and reversed Otherwise, an English set may be so marked by the student. Important differences attach to the variations in question, so far as the trump-cards are concerned, as they do indeed in the English method.
