Book French Bulldog ABC s with Batty

Download or read book French Bulldog ABC s with Batty written by Lerin Lockwood and published by . This book was released on 2021-08-25 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Enjoy learning about French Bulldogs and the ABC's with this book featuring our silly French bulldog, Batty. Batty has a brindle coat, meaning he is black with cream and orange stripes. He is not your average dog and loves snuggling, playing and being treated like his human siblings. French Bulldog ABC's with Batty shines a light on the funny "frenchie." French bulldogs have their own personalities and often do strange things that other dog breeds do not. Frenchies have a short snout causing them to sneeze or "snoot" regularly. They also occasionally pass gas that can clear the room. Our favorite frenchie activity is when they get the "zoomies" and race around the yard or house.

Book French Bulldog

Download or read book French Bulldog written by Joyce Markovics and published by Bearport Publishing. This book was released on 2010-08-01 with total page 32 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: French bulldogs might be small, but these little guys have huge hearts! Kids will enjoy meeting dogs like Bugsy, a nine-year-old Frenchie whose owner, Molly, is a zoo director in England. When Molly brought an abandoned baby orangutan home from the zoo, Bugsy immediately welcomed the new arrival with licks and cuddled right up to his new friend. Of course, it’s not surprising that Bugsy would warm to the little orangutan because French bulldogs were bred to be companion dogs. The origins of the breed can be traced back to the 1800s, when lace makers labored in cold factories. The workers wanted a smaller version of the English bulldog that could sit on their laps and keep them warm as they worked. Over the years, a friendly little dog was successfully bred! French Bulldog: The Frenchie is a narrative treat for dog lovers that includes amazing, real-life stories about these pint-sized pups while also recounting the breed’s history and its relationship to the animal’s physical characteristics, personality, and suitability as a pet.

Book The Life and Afterlife of Gay Neighborhoods

Download or read book The Life and Afterlife of Gay Neighborhoods written by Alex Bitterman and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2021-03-19 with total page 434 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This open access book examines the significance of gay neighborhoods (or ‘gayborhoods’) from critical periods of formation during the gay liberation and freedom movements of the 1960s and 1970s, to proven durability through the HIV/AIDS pandemic during the 1980s and 1990s, to a mature plateau since 2000. The book provides a framework for contemplating the future form and function of gay neighborhoods. Social and cultural shifts within gay neighborhoods are used as a framework for understanding the decades-long struggle for LGBTQ+ rights and equality. Resulting from gentrification, weakening social stigma, and enhanced rights for LGBTQ+ people, gay neighborhoods have recently become “less gay,” following a 50-year period of resilience. Meanwhile, other neighborhoods are becoming “more gay,” due to changing preferences of LGBTQ+ individuals and a propensity for LGBTQ+ families to form community in areas away from established gayborhoods. The current ‘plateau’ in the evolution of gay neighborhoods is characterized by generational differences—between Baby Boom pioneers and Millennials who favour broad inclusivity—signaling various possible trajectories for the future ‘afterlife’ of these important LGBTQ+ urban spaces. The complicating impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic provides a point of comparison for lessons learned from gay neighborhoods and the LGBTQ+ community that bravely endured the onset of the HIV/AIDS pandemic. This book will be of interest to students and scholars in various disciplines—including sociology, social work, anthropology, gender and sexuality, LGTBQ+ and queer studies, as well as urban geography, architecture, and city planning—and to policymakers and advocates concerned with LGBTQ+ rights and social justice.

Book American Animated Cartoons of the Vietnam Era

Download or read book American Animated Cartoons of the Vietnam Era written by Christopher P. Lehman and published by McFarland. This book was released on 2014-01-10 with total page 234 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In the first four years of U.S. involvement in the Vietnam War (1961-64), Hollywood did not dramatize the current military conflict but rather romanticized earlier ones. Cartoons reflected only previous trends in U.S. culture, and animators comically but patriotically remembered the Revolutionary War, the Civil War, and both World Wars. In the early years of military escalation in Vietnam, Hollywood was simply not ready to illustrate America's contemporary radicalism and race relations in live-action or animated films. But this trend changed when US participation dramatically increased between 1965 and 1968. In the year of the Tet Offensive and the killings of the Rev. Martin Luther King, Jr., and Senator Robert Kennedy, the violence of the Vietnam War era caught up with animators. This book discusses the evolution of U.S. animation from militaristic and violent to liberal and pacifist and the role of the Vietnam War in this development. The book chronologically documents theatrical and television cartoon studios' changing responses to U.S. participation in the Vietnam War between 1961 and 1973, using as evidence the array of artistic commentary about the federal government, the armed forces, the draft, peace negotiations, the counterculture movement, racial issues, and pacifism produced during this period. The study further reveals the extent to which cartoon violence served as a barometer of national sentiment on Vietnam. When many Americans supported the war in the 1960s, scenes of bombings and gunfire were prevalent in animated films. As Americans began to favor withdrawal, militaristic images disappeared from the cartoon. Soon animated cartoons would serve as enlightening artifacts of Vietnam War-era ideology. In addition to the assessment of primary film materials, this book draws upon interviews with people involved in the production Vietnam-era films. Film critics responding in their newspaper columns to the era's innovative cartoon sociopolitical commentary also serve as invaluable references. Three informative appendices contribute to the work.
