Book Norms of Word Association

Download or read book Norms of Word Association written by Leo Postman and published by Academic Press. This book was released on 2014-05-10 with total page 476 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Norms of Word Association contains a heterogeneous collection of word association norms. This book brings together nine sets of association norms that were collected independently at different times during a 15-year period. Each chapter is a self-contained unit. The order in which the norms are presented is arbitrary, although an attempt is made to group together norms that seem to belong together. The 1952 Minnesota norms are presented first, due to "age" and in recognition of the fact that a number of the norms that follow are direct outgrowths of this work. The next three norms in this collection are responses to the Russell-Jenkins stimuli obtained from subjects representing different linguistic communities. A summary of association norms collected from British and Australian subjects are reported along with association norms from German and French college students and French workmen. Four sets of norms that are not directly related to the 1952 Minnesota collection are included. The text will be of interest to historians and researchers in the field of verbal learning and verbal behavior.

Book Word Association Norms

Download or read book Word Association Norms written by David Stuart Palermo and published by . This book was released on 1964 with total page 514 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Word Association Norms was first published in 1964.In an effort to stimulate research and to provide raw materials for a wide variety of behavior studies, the authors present a complete tabulation of the responses of 4,500 subjects, ranging from fourth grade through college age, to a word association test of 200 words. The norms thus obtained will be useful to psychologists, linguists, psychiatrists, anthropologists, and others studying verbal behavior and related questions. The data are arranged in three major tables: first, a tabke of the responses made to each stimulus word, including the frequency of each response in each sex-grade group; second, a table of all idiosyncratic responses to each stimulus; third, a response index listing each response and the stimuli to which it occurred.

Book A History of Women in Psychology and Neuroscience

Download or read book A History of Women in Psychology and Neuroscience written by Dale DeBakcsy and published by Pen and Sword History. This book was released on 2024-09-30 with total page 329 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Since virtually its first moments as an academic science, women have played a major role in the development of psychology, gaining from the outset research opportunities and academic positions that had been denied them for centuries in other branches of scientific investigation. Look wherever you will, in any branch of psychology or neuroscience in the last century and a half, and what you will find are a plethora of women whose discoveries fundamentally changed how we view the brain and its role in the formation of our perceptions and behaviors. A History of Women in Psychology and Neuroscience tells the story of 267 women whose work opened new doors in humanity's ongoing attempt to learn about its own nature, from Christine Ladd Franklin's late 19th century studies of how the brain perceives color to Virginia Johnson's pioneering studies of the human sexual response, and Augusta Dejerine-Klumpke's early association of neurological conditions with their underlying brain regions to May-Britt Moser's Nobel-winning discovery a century later of the grid cells that allow us to mentally model our surroundings. Here are the stories of when and how we learned how memories are formed, what role an enriched environment plays in mental development, why some individuals are better able to cope with chronic stress than others, how societal stereotypes unconsciously feed into our daily interactions with other people, what role evolution might have played in the formation of our social habits, what light the practices of sign language might shed on our brain's basic capacity for language, how children internalize the violence they experience from others, and hundreds of other tales of the women who dug deep into the structures of the human mind to uncover, layer by layer, the answers to millennia-old questions of what humans are, and why they behave as they do.

Book The Dictionary of Psychology

Download or read book The Dictionary of Psychology written by Ray Corsini and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2016-12-05 with total page 1186 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: With more than three times as many defined entries, biographies, illustrations, and appendices than any other dictionary of psychology ever printed in the English language, Raymond Corsini's Dictionary of Psychology is indeed a landmark resource. The most comprehensive, up-to-date reference of its kind, the Dictionary also maintains a user-friendliness throughout. This combination ensures that it will serve as the definitive work for years to come. With a clear and functional design, and highly readable style, the Dictionary offers over 30,000 entries (including interdisciplinary terms and contemporary slang), more than 125 illustrations, as well as extensive cross-referencing of entries. Ten supportive appendices, such as the Greek Alphabet, Medical Prescription Terms, and biographies of more than 1,000 deceased contributors to psychology, further augment the Dictionary's usefulness. Over 100 psychologists as well as numerous physicians participated as consulting editors, and a dozen specialist consulting editors reviewed the material. Dr. Alan Auerbach, the American Psychological Association's de facto dictionary expert, served as the senior consulting editor. As a final check for comprehensiveness and accuracy, independent review editors were employed to re-examine, re-review, and re-approve every entry.
