Book Building Sustainable Peace

Download or read book Building Sustainable Peace written by Arnim Langer and published by Oxford University Press. This book was released on 2016-06-16 with total page 479 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Countries emerging from civil war or protracted violence often face the daunting challenge of rebuilding their economy while simultaneously creating the political and social conditions for a stable peace. The implicit assumption in the international community that rapid political democratisation along with economic liberalisation holds the key to sustainable peace is belied by the experiences of countries such as Iraq and Afghanistan. Often, the challenges of post-conflict reconstruction revolve around the timing and sequencing of different reform that may have contradictory implications. Drawing on a range of thematic studies and empirical cases, this book examines how post-conflict reconstruction policies can be better sequenced in order to promote sustainable peace. The book provides evidence that many reforms that are often thought to be imperative in post-conflict societies may be better considered as long-term objectives, and that the immediate imperative for such societies should be 'people-centred' policies.

Book Pablo Bronstein A is Building B is Architecture

Download or read book Pablo Bronstein A is Building B is Architecture written by Pablo Bronstein and published by Walther Konig Verlag. This book was released on 2013 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Pablo Bronstein is interested in the links between classical architecture and contemporary urbanism, between settings and decors, between art and dance. Through drawing, sculpture, video and performance, he looks at the historical otherness in order to unveil the links between power, fascination and classical art. His work often combines references to history of architecture- from the Roman antiquity and the Baroque to Neo-classicism and Post-modernism, as well as hints to history of art - from the Renaissance to the Modern period. While he has always been fascinated by drawing, he used it in his practice as an artist only after finishing his studies. In his architectural interventions, the artist explores the relation between architecture and our urban lifestyles. His drawings are neither architectural works, nor sketches for decors but rather concepts in themselves, which involve a relation to the human being and to its personal identity and social customs.

  • Pages : 304 pages

Download or read book Crossing Parallels written by Susanne Pollack and published by . This book was released on 2021-08 with total page 304 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Agostino Carracci and Hendrick Goltzius were the leading engravers of the late 16th century - one north and the other south of the Alps. They have not only achieved revolutionary achievements in technical terms, but have also had a lasting impact on the medium of copperplate engraving with the selection and design of their image content. While there are already numerous publications on Goltzius as well as on Carracci, the obvious comparison of the two great figures of the engraving around 1600 is undertaken here for the first time. In four detailed essays and catalog texts on all exhibited engravings, the amazing parallels in the life and work of the two masters are shown, their artistic development is comparatively analyzed and the readers' eyes are sharpened for the sophistication of their virtuoso engraving technique.
