Book Franklin Feels at Home

Download or read book Franklin Feels at Home written by and published by Kids Can Press. This book was released on 2013-08-01 with total page 28 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Franklin the turtle is excited to be spending two whole nights at his best friend Bear's house! They have so much fun together playing outdoors and making cool snow dragons. But even though Franklin is having lots of fun with Bear, some things at Bear's house make him a little bit uncomfortable. ?I'm just not used to things around here,? Franklin tells his friend. ?And I miss my family. I wish they could be here with me.? Luckily for Franklin, Bear and his parents understand what he's going through. And with a lot of kindness and some clever ideas, they manage to help Franklin deal with his sadness and start to feel at home. As with all the Franklin books, this one perfectly captures a difficult experience that is commonly faced by young children, in this case that of spending time away from home. Kindergarten and preschool children will recognize and relate to the conflicting emotions Franklin has. They, too, are likely enjoying some newfound independence away from their families, while still yearning for the comfort and familiarity of home after time away. Well-known from the very popular 3D-animated television series Franklin and Friends, the lovable character Franklin is a welcome guest in any classroom and a big hit at storytime. This book offers an excellent opportunity for a class discussion on the subjects of independence or fear. It would also work well for character education lessons about compassion, empathy and kindness.

Book Young Benjamin Franklin

Download or read book Young Benjamin Franklin written by Nick Bunker and published by Vintage. This book was released on 2019-08-20 with total page 466 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this new account of Franklin's early life, Pulitzer finalist Nick Bunker portrays him as a complex, driven young man who elbows his way to success. From his early career as a printer and journalist to his scientific work and his role as a founder of a new republic, Benjamin Franklin has always seemed the inevitable embodiment of American ingenuity. But in his youth he had to make his way through a harsh colonial world, where he fought many battles with his rivals, but also with his wayward emotions. Taking Franklin to the age of forty-one, when he made his first electrical discoveries, Bunker goes behind the legend to reveal the sources of his passion for knowledge. Always trying to balance virtue against ambition, Franklin emerges as a brilliant but flawed human being, made from the conflicts of an age of slavery as well as reason. With archival material from both sides of the Atlantic, we see Franklin in Boston, London, and Philadelphia as he develops his formula for greatness. A tale of science, politics, war, and religion, this is also a story about Franklin's forebears: the talented family of English craftsmen who produced America's favorite genius.

Download or read book Franklin and the Little Sisters written by and published by Kids Can Press. This book was released on 2013-08-01 with total page 28 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Franklin the Turtle and Bear are heading to their cool-io tree fort when Harriet and Beatrice, their younger sisters, try to tag along. Though Franklin and Bear tell the girls they can't come, their mothers have a different idea. ?But we were going to put our stuff in the tree fort,? Franklin says. ?There will still be time for that,? says Mrs. Turtle. ?Right now, you need to find something to do with your sisters --- something safe. That means on the ground, Franklin.? Franklin and Bear are so disappointed. All of their friends are in the tree fort having a great time. It's not fair! Will they be able to come up with a way to have fun and watch their sisters at the same time? Younger siblings often pose a problem for children when they want to be left alone to do ?big kid? stuff. In this situation, Franklin and Bear are able to find a way to engage in play that everyone enjoys and that even ends up bringing the siblings closer. As with many of the titles in this series based on the 3D-animated television show Franklin and Friends, it's a win-win solution to a typical problem faced by children in their everyday lives. This book would make an excellent choice for a character education lesson about adaptability, initiative or responsibility. Through biblical and modern-day stories, he discusses different types of relational disappointment and heartache, and answers questions such as Why should I trust again? and How can I ever really forgive? The walls we build around our hearts to cut us off from pain are the very walls that block us from seeing hope, receiving healing, and feeling love. Here are the tools and inspiration you need to tear down those walls, work through your wounds, repair damaged relationships, and learn to love like you've never been hurt.

Book Benjamin Franklin You ve Got Mail

Download or read book Benjamin Franklin You ve Got Mail written by Adam Mansbach and published by Little, Brown Books for Young Readers. This book was released on 2017-06-04 with total page 224 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: If the Future has any remedy for this situation, do not hesitate to provide it. That is to say, Ike and Claire Wanzandae, HELP! HELP HELP HELP. I am (perhaps not for long), Benjamin Franklin Ike Saturday has seen better days. For one thing, his pen pal, Benjamin Franklin (yes, that Benjamin Franklin), is the target of an angry mob after Ike's plan to help the Founding Fathers with some intel from the future seriously backfired. For another, he's decided to mail himself back in time with the help of his girlfriend, Claire Wanzandae, and it's not a particularly comfortable way to travel. Once Ike tracks B-Freezy down in 1776, it becomes clear that his pal is less than impressed with the irritating, modern-day rescuer, partially because Ike has a habit of making things worse for Ben, and partially because Ben is incredibly cranky when not in the presence of numerous meat pies. Which speaks to another issue for the pair: they have no money, no food, and basically no plan for saving the country. But Claire won't be able to cover for Ike back home in the future forever, and the British are looking pretty impatient, so Ike and B-Freezy will have to come up with something quickly if they want to avoid an epic, history-destroying disaster. In this hilarious sequel to Benjamin Franklin: Huge Pain in My . . . , Adam Mansbach and Alan Zweibel take Ike and B-Freezy's antics to the next level as this ill-paired (and sometimes actually ill) duo hold the future of the world in their not-so-capable hands.

Book Franklin Washington

Download or read book Franklin Washington written by Edward J. Larson and published by HarperCollins. This book was released on 2020-02-11 with total page 400 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "Larson's elegantly written dual biography reveals that the partnership of Franklin and Washington was indispensable to the success of the Revolution." —Gordon S. Wood From the Pulitzer Prize-winning historian comes a masterful, first-of-its-kind dual biography of Benjamin Franklin and George Washington, illuminating their partnership's enduring importance. NATIONAL BESTSELLER • One of Washington Post's "10 Books to Read in February" • One of USA Today’s “Must-Read Books" of Winter 2020 • One of Publishers Weekly's "Top Ten" Spring 2020 Memoirs/Biographies Theirs was a three-decade-long bond that, more than any other pairing, would forge the United States. Vastly different men, Benjamin Franklin—an abolitionist freethinker from the urban north—and George Washington—a slaveholding general from the agrarian south—were the indispensable authors of American independence and the two key partners in the attempt to craft a more perfect union at the Constitutional Convention, held in Franklin’s Philadelphia and presided over by Washington. And yet their teamwork has been little remarked upon in the centuries since. Illuminating Franklin and Washington’s relationship with striking new detail and energy, Pulitzer Prize–winning historian Edward J. Larson shows that theirs was truly an intimate working friendship that amplified the talents of each for collective advancement of the American project. After long supporting British rule, both Franklin and Washington became key early proponents of independence. Their friendship gained historical significance during the American Revolution, when Franklin led America’s diplomatic mission in Europe (securing money and an alliance with France) and Washington commanded the Continental Army. Victory required both of these efforts to succeed, and success, in turn, required their mutual coordination and cooperation. In the 1780s, the two sought to strengthen the union, leading to the framing and ratification of the Constitution, the founding document that bears their stamp. Franklin and Washington—the two most revered figures in the early republic—staked their lives and fortunes on the American experiment in liberty and were committed to its preservation. Today the United States is the world’s great superpower, and yet we also wrestle with the government Franklin and Washington created more than two centuries ago—the power of the executive branch, the principle of checks and balances, the electoral college—as well as the wounds of their compromise over slavery. Now, as the founding institutions appear under new stress, it is time to understand their origins through the fresh lens of Larson’s Franklin & Washington, a major addition to the literature of the founding era.
