Book Francesco Robba and 18th Century Venetian Sculpture

Download or read book Francesco Robba and 18th Century Venetian Sculpture written by Janez Hofler and published by . This book was released on 2000 with total page 245 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This publication, edited by Janez Hofler, brings together the papers presented at the international symposium on the sculptor Francesco Robba which was held in October 1998 by the Department of Art History of the University of Ljubljana on the 300th anniversary of Robba's birth. Since the artist was Venetian by birth, and since his oeuvre is an integral part of late Baroque Venetian sculpture, the symposium focused not only on Robba's personality and work but also provided a forum for discussion of fundamental issues of Venetian sculpture and general aspects of cultural exchange between Italy and Central Europe during Robba's lifetime. Several papers presented at the symposium also examine the significant position of Ljubljana and the Austrian province of Carniola, Robba's second home, in the cultural and historical map of Central Europe, and more precisely, their intermediary role in the reception, affirmation and diffusion of the artistic forms and tastes of the Italian Baroque period. Contributors include Marijan Smolik, Nace Sumi, Sergej Vriser, Andrea Andanti, Segej Androssov, Ivo Babic, Giuseppe Bergamini, Alan Phipps Darr, Doris Baricevic, Massimo de Grassi, Monica De Vincenti, Paolo Goi, Simone Guerreiro, Barbara Jaki, Matej Klemencic, Stanko Kokole, Douglas Lewis, Vladimir Markovic, Frank Martin, Giuseppe Pavanello, Paola Rossi and Radoslav Tomic. Several of the papers are presented in English and several are in Italian.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "A History of Baroque Music is a detailed treatment of the music of the Baroque era, with particular focus on the seventeenth century. The author's approach is a history of musical style with an emphasis on musical scores. The book is divided initially by time period into early and later Baroque (1600-1700 and 1700-1750 respectively), and secondarily by country and composer. An introductory chapter discusses stylistic continuity with the late Renaissance and examines the etymology of the term "Baroque." The concluding chapter on the composer Telemann addresses the stylistic shift that led to the end of the Baroque and the transition into the Classical period."--Jacket.

Book Catalogue of Italian Sculpture in the Detroit Institute of Arts Eighth to sixteenth century

Download or read book Catalogue of Italian Sculpture in the Detroit Institute of Arts Eighth to sixteenth century written by Detroit Institute of Arts and published by Harvey Miller. This book was released on 2002 with total page 300 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The collection of post-antique Italian sculpture in the Detroit Institute of Arts is considered among the three finest and most comprehensive outside Europe; however, this large and distinguished collection, whose formation began a century ago, has never been published in its entirety as a museum catalogue. Ranging from early medieval, pre-Romanesque stone carvings of the eighth and ninth centuries to works created more than a millennium later, the collection numbers over 350 pieces of Italian sculpture in wood, stone, terracotta, stucco, porcelain and bronze. More than half of the collection consists of sculpture from the fifteenth and sixteenth centuries (or the Early, High and Late Italian Renaissance), and approximately one-fifth dates from the thirteenth and fourteenth centuries (roughly, Italian Gothic sculpture). Although the remainder is more or less equally balanced in number between the eighth to the twelfth centuries, and those pieces from the seventeenth to the early twentieth centuries, the latter group of Italian baroque to nineteenth-century sculpture contains some of the most important and most recently acquired Italian works of art in the collection.
