Let us like Caleb wholly and fully follow the Lord, that in Him we may find a place of abiding fellowship and communion with Himself; "and truly our fellowship is with the Father, and with His Son Jesus Christ" (1 John i. 3). 5. "He kept His commandments" (ver. 6). Hezekiah followed not in the sinful way of his father Ahaz, but "he did that which was right in the sight of the Lord " (2 Chron. xxix. 2), not only turning to the Lord and removing the idols, but" in the first year of his reign in the first month he opened the doors of the house of the Lord, and repaired them" (v. 3), commanding the Levites to commence the cleansing of the holy place, and after they had accomplished the work in eight days the temple services were again carried on. Once more the sin offering, the burnt offering, and the offering for thanksgiving were slain and burnt upon the altar according to the commandment, and "so the service of the house of the Lord was set in order" (2 Chron. xxix. 35). Then followed the keeping of the passover with the feast of unleavened bread, when " the Levites and the priests praised the Lord day by day, singing with loud instruments unto the Lord," which resulted in such gladness that they "took counsel to keep other seven days." This they did, "and all the congregation of Judah, with the priests and the Levites and all the congregation that came out of Israel and the strangers that came out of the land of Israel, and that dwelt in Judah, rejoiced. So there was great joy iu Jerusalem; for since the time of Solomon the son of David, king of Israel, there was not the like in Jerusalem" (2 Chron. xxx). In all this there is much...

Book excerpt: The analysis of silk is a fascinating topic for research in itself but here, focusing on the 9th and 10th centuries, Marianne Vedeler takes a closer look at the trade routes and the organization of production, trade and consumption of silk during the Viking Age. Beginning with a presentation of the silk finds in the Oseberg burial, the richest Viking burial find ever discovered, the other silk finds from high status graves in Scandinavia are discussed along with an introduction to the techniques used to produce raw silk and fabrics. Later chapters concentrate on trade and exchange, considering the role of silk items both as trade objects and precious gifts, and in the light of coin finds. The main trade routes of silk to Scandinavia along the Russian rivers, and comparable Russian finds are described and the production and regulation of silk in Persia, early Islamic production areas and the Byzantine Empire discussed. The final chapter considers silk as a social actor in various contexts in Viking societies compared to the Christian west.

From his barbershop chair, Matt has inspired a new generation of New Zealand men to break free from the cycle of abuse — and those men have in turn inspired him and his wife, Sarah, to create the global anti-violence movement, She Is Not Your Rehab. In this raw and unflinching book Matt shares his own story and those of his clients, of surviving family violence and abuse, and how they were able to find healing and turn their lives around. He introduces the people and concepts that have helped him heal, and gives readers the tools they need to begin their own journeys. She is Not Your Rehab demonstrates the power of vulnerability and honesty in addressing pain and shame, and shows how anyone can empower themselves by taking responsibility for their own healing.
